I am trying to fix some “professional “ photos that my wedding photographer took. And im new to this. But you are an excellent instructor. I will watch more of your tutorials. Thank you.
Brilliant. I have done similar techniques to bring back some blue to the sky while masking the subject in my photos (Luminance and Dehaze sliders mostly). It never really occurred to me to use the blue gradients in PS, but I will give them a look. The big take away in this video for me was the apply image using different blend modes to refine the mask (I usually use levels). I constantly learn something new from you. Thank you!
Thanx man, your videos are awesome and very helpful, i always watch your videos and keep making more please. I want to be pro at photoshop like you... good day stay safe... peace
What would be the best way to blend the sky from another image in the case of such a detailed image ( i.e the gaps at the top of the duomo architecture). I've been struggling with it! I love your tutorials!
The irony is a dull, grey sky is in many ways preferable as it creates diffuse light, resulting in lower contrast and lower risk of glare blooming on your photo.
I literally just got back in from a shoot where we got some great shots, but the skies were completely ugly grey, and there waiting for me in my email was my PTC email with the link to this video. How did you know?! Perfect timing! Thanks!
In my opinion a blue sky is not appropriate for this image, a dramatic sky would be better. Nevertheless some techniques were new for me: Inverting while copying a layer mask, grouping all the layers into a smart object for Camera Raw Filter corrections. Good work. Question: do you have a tut on creating sun beams from zero?
Just curious if it wouldn't have been easier to just select the building as you did and remove the cloudy sky and place a new image behind the building with a real blue sky with clouds...because now you have a strange sky...but I get it...the purpose is to learn all the steps to modify the image and all the different tools, tricks, shortcuts, and steps. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot.
Lots of ways to mask the building, but an alternative that I think is faster and easier than demonstrated, is to add a Levels adjustment layer above the background layer. Adjust the sliders to maximize contrast between the sky and building: a combination of moving the white point, grey point and black point sliders. Doing this will show some blue patches in the sky that was otherwise hidden. Change the blend mode of the Levels layer to Luminosity to eliminate this. Then use the Magic Wand to select the sky. With my Tolerance of the tool set to 23, it took 3 clicks to select the whole sky.
Jesus, your tutorials are great! This seems like a lot of work to get blue skies. It might be interesting if you reviewed Luminar 4 and its sky replacement tool. In most instances it does a terrific job with just one click and you can then do it few touchups if necessary.
Two things: (1) I did NOT know about using SHIFT to why you just didn't -OPT (Mac) to copy and invert a layer mask, (2) Curious as remove that construction crane from the image. It was the first thing I saw when you opened the image, and it was a MAJOR distraction throughout. But love the technique
Typically, when traveling, I get one chance to make a memorable image. Therefore, if I don't like the sky, I'll pick a portion of the scene to shoot that doesn't need sky. Then I still have the memory, as well as something beautifully composed with minimal editing. I may not ever replace a boring sky, but to know how the tools you used work on a real image is valuable.
Thank you Jesus ... I got a question... is there a trick to tune “new sky exposure “ with the foreground subject as in this example you showed? For example will it works “color match” even for exposure ?
Question - I am a Real Estate Photographer, and I hate when other RE Photographers use sky inserts. It’s probably just a personal preference, but I think when they are used it is super obvious and looks fake, and I prefer for my photos to look realistic. However, would you consider the tool and tips you used here to be a photo insert? Probably in the true sense of the term it’s not, but just curious on your opinion, or the opinions of others.
Thanks for another "very exciting tutorial" (still miss that! 😊), Jesùs. Question: At ~15:12, was it necessary to delete the Layer Mask first? Would not the ⌥-⇧-drag operation have replaced the provided Layer Mask? Again, many thanks for all your helpful techniques!
Your tutorials are always packed with great tips and steps. I hope I sit down and apply this soon! I've taken notes and hope they are complete enough to keep me on point. Thank you so much Jesus!
Nice video! I like the techniques I see here, although as an Affinity Photo user, I have double-mask support by default and I don't need to group things to do it >:) In this case, I don't think you needed to add any grain to the image. You didn't remove the grain that was already there, so why add more? When you set the blend mode of the sky to Multiply, it puts the grainy texture back into the sky, right? Perhaps I'm missing something here.
this didn't work very well for my image because it destroyed the bokeh on the building (i was stopped down) and also made the CA very apparent. I know how to remove CA using gaussian blur, but is there a way to preserve the bokeh in this particular scenario?
Thanks for tutorial, anyway...blue sky only happen when there is Sun shining,...not in cloudy day. So Id prefer to turn the saturation of blue sky down near to grey
Congratulations. It took less than five minutes for me to be so frustrated that I'm never watching your channel videos again. I don't need to know what techniques don't work, I need to know what DOES!!
Great as always, but I get a "pink" mask from the channels masking, is there a way to disable that other than 0 opacity of it? And I found I have to delete the "blue copy" channel in order to save as a tiff.
When I cycle through the channels all I get is a red overlay, a green overlay and a blue overlay. Nothing like what you have on your video. I'm using latest 2020. I had the same problem with the 'enhance colours with this insanely useful filter. I've checked all my settings. Help!
Cool, I change the sky in Photoshop CC last night. I can watch Jesus right now to see what he did. I can compare the technic that he is teaching in this video to the technic I used last night and see which is the better technic.
Couldn’t finish the video. Might have been good info, but the subject was so bad, I couldn’t watch any more. This started with, what looked to me, a crappy phone snapshot, and tried to make a photograph out of it. I’ve struggled with bad skies, but trying save a snapshot has never been a problem
Wow, my head is spinning. So many interesting techniques such as masking a mask.
Inverting while copying a layer mask is new to me. I knew how to copy, but then always had to go to properties and invert. A real time saver.
Yup, it's a good one to know, Terri!
Fantastic tutorial, simple things like this make a powerful impact, I have gained some fantastic knowledge there, thank you. 😍😍
You're welcome, Matt!
Learned many new techniques, shortcuts. Amazing!
Thank you, rpurdum!

This was my first time watching one of your videos. OUTSTANDING! I'll be back.
Excellent! One of your best and very usable for so many of us.
Thank you, Randy!
I learn so much my mind was hurting...so I will be rewatching (several times) and then doing this to a photo myself a few times to get all this down.

You're the best! I'm feeling so lucky to find your channel!
Thank you, WOT Greece Replays!
Thanks man! This was perfect. Loved the keyboard shortcut tricks.
This is an excellent tutorial. Very thorough, detailed and easily understandable. Thanks, it really helped me.
Another excellent ‘tutorial’. Many thanks.
Wauw, thank you! Didn't know it was this easy. Makes my picture much better!
When I saw this video's length at 21 mins, I knew it's not a One Click affair!
Thanx man, your videos are awesome and very helpful, i always watch your videos and keep making more please. I want to be pro at photoshop like you... good day stay safe... peace
Thank you for this very thorough tutorial, JR. I'd remove that bloody crane of course but it doesn't make your work less awesome. Cheers
Excellent tutorial! I have been searching for a powerful tool like this! Thank you!
So many great techniques in one video! Thank you.
Fantastic tutorial. Learnt a lot....Cheers from Nova Scotia...
Wow..I landed here by chance..but am staying..🙌
Very informative. Also, I think this would be a good candidate for black and white!
Thank you! Very interesting tutorial!!!
You're welcome, Aprendizz!
a lot of interesting stuff in this tutorial. But alas, why is Photoshop sooo complicated!!!! :)
Great tips and shortcuts! Thanks!
thanks for choosing MIlano !!
Holy Information, awesome video thanks for all the info, very helpful!
informative and helpful as usual
Great video. Does this method produce halos around the outline of the building and if so what is the best way to remove it. Thanks.
Thank you, Jesus, for the trick about coping the mask and inverting it at the same time!!! New to me too. :)
I really loved that 'double masking' tip
As usual excellent learning video
Thank you, GFXCROWD!
Smart education 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
muchas gracias!
Great job. Thanks!

Awesome - thank you!

This is really wonderful.
Very useful tutorial sir thank you.
Hi Jesus, interesting and useful video; but, what if you have the sky reflected on a water surface, how do you do it in this case? Thanks!
you are so good I have learned a lot from you thank you very much.
It looks awesome!
Buen dia saludos de Perú gracias por Compartir tan bonitos vidios Felicidades
Gracias, a'gusto chanell!
So now you've done that, is there anyway to take everyone's hood down now the weather's better? 😅
Awesome shortcut to copy and invert layer mask...the fewer steps the better I like it.
Great Video,thank You😘
Great insights (as usual) thanks a ton, Jesús!🙏 (p.s. Knew about the copy-mask-and-invert, but had forgotten how to access it!)

Excellent video! In your atmospheric group, could you paint directly on your original inverted curves mask to darken the spires of the building?
Thank You, it's a amazing video (again)
真不错!学习到了
Great Video

You didn't include a link in the description for how to remove jpeg compression.

16:38 you missed tye rectangle
when i go to "apply image" the channel for the copy of the blue channel doesnt show up. does anyone know how to fix this?
What app is this? And what do i do if i dont have a mac?
It's Photoshop. And I used a Windows machine to record this. Not a Mac.
Thanks for tutorial, anyway...blue sky only happen when there is Sun shining,...not in cloudy day. So Id prefer to turn the saturation of blue sky down near to grey

Great but would prefer if you would go a little slower. Thanks
This takes my bad photography to another level
Good way to make a alpha channel.
There's so much here will need multiple viewings to extract the most out of it.
PLEASE consider adding Elements work arounds in some of your videos! Thanks!

Valerie, it's the same thing. You just have the color overlay turned on. It's off by default, but it represents the same thing.
@@PhotoshopTrainingChannel Thank you Jesus. Will try again!
Great tutorial as always, Jesus!

Who needs a crane jib in the pic ?..just content aware it out, or clone it out
Nice, but why not show the light and the building like it was?
Live isn't alwas sunny!
Luminar 4 Sky ai
💗💗💗💗💗🙌🙌🙌🙌
It would be easier to go back on a nice sunny day and take another snap, easy peasy.

Music is terrible. Irrelevant for a tute, distracting, and we have our own. Great tuts though, appreciate that!
