Mark, you've seen me on your pages and videos. I was rolling when Josh said what you said. I was like... NO WAY did Mark Denney say that. So, did you actually say those things. This just really made me LOL. Both of you have nothing but my utmost respect. So much I have learned from both of you. Amazing.
Winner for sky replacement and color looks to match better. Thanks for the reminder tips about making the sky match the light conditions in the landscape.
For those who are critical of sky replacement, it does have it’s place in some commercial work such as some real estate photography, etc. If you have to do it, it’s nice to be able to do it well. I certainly learned something.
Joshua--this is one of the best videos I've seen on replacing a sky using a selection tool and not a luminiosity mask. Really. Great job. I even took notes. Mark should give you a deep bow of respect. I'm sure he will
I am really getting a lot out of your videos here Josh! Just stumbled on your videos via Milky Way tutorials. Well done keep them coming. I am a student of Mark Denny so your video here made me LOL a great deal. I have learned A TONE from Mark. You too now. Great to have you guys as instructors.
you are the winner josh, Luminar 4 is amazing with skies and it takes about 10secs.i learned how to get rid of the halo around the arch which is clever in photoshop.
Finnaly you are back! Your videos helped me a lot when i started in Landscape photography. Thanks! And yes your edit is much more cleaner and realistic 😉
Great video and glad to see you back on UA-cam! This was my go to channel when I got into photography a few years ago, so I can’t wait to see what you have in store 👍🏻
I'm pretty good with photoshop, but you totally taught me something here (with the way you manipulated the mask). Also I saw Mark's original video, and your edit was (easily) the best out of all of them. This episode was outstanding. 👍😀
I'm happy you are back!! Love your enthousiasme. Can you tell something about photographing and compositioning in a flat landscape? Greetings from the Netherlands!!
So good to see you back on UA-cam! I really love your style and learned a lot from your old techniques videos. Good to have you back :D. I'm not that much into sky replacement, I prefer to try and be there on time and except when a scene isn't what I wanted it to be, that's nature. But I do think you did a pretty neat job, better than the others, although the inner part of the arch stills looks a bit fringy. Keep up the good work!
I had an ah-ha moment watching this video! Although I am still learning how to use Photoshop I can follow your thoughts and tips. Thanks Josh. Love the edit!
While this is cool, I hate composites and think it's ruining photography and what regular people expect from an image. I think if people composite things, they better be VERY CLEAR that it is a composite.
You could definitely do this, but since there is so much contrast I was confident the selection wand would work, and I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for those who don't know lum masks.
When I first watched Mark‘s video, I was surprised people get paid for those jobs, I'm not a professional but I can do much better then those people. Well done Joshua, now make sure send him a INVOICE. LOL
How do I say this with out sounding picky. It may be due to the screen capture but in side the arch on the bottom left you still have fringing. The rest of the arch looks a lot better than the other edits. Would adding a Gaussian blur of 1 pixel to the mask and then Cmd / Ctrl L for a levels adjustment on the mask and bring the black slider across work.
Hey Luke, no trouble at all. There are 16 ways to skin a cat in Photoshop, and the method you suggest might work. I'd be wary of feathering/blurring the edge of the mask, but using a levels adjustment to tighten it up might help. Of course the best solution is to start with source images that are as close as possible already.
Haha, loved the puppets! ;) On the other hand, I found the music to be super distracting, making the vid almost unwatchable for me. Horribly irritating. Excellent vid apart from that.
Did this video help you learn something new about replacing skies or creating composites? Let me know!
Awesome video Josh! I must say you’re the clear winner - nicely done man!!
Did you send him a $30 check? 😁

Man I've missed your humour. Glad you're back on youtube!

You killed it, Josh!

Cripps (STILL) ROCKS!!!!!! Long see - no time! Welcome back....
You nailed it Joshua! I so happy you're back producing videos.
Nice tip on flipping the sky to get the light in the right direction Josh. Enjoyed the full tutorial.
I watched Marks video when it came out, you definitely did the best edit. Light direction and combating the fringing made all the difference.
Clear winner m8 and i really enjoyed the video, very well explained.made me want to go edit some photos
You nailed it Josh!! This is one of the reasons I love your work so much. Keep them coming ❤️
That was awesome. Learned a lot. Thanks
I always loved your videos. I do hope that you will continue to make more.
You bet I will! Stay tuned for weekly uploads.

Great video and glad to see you back on UA-cam! This was my go to channel when I got into photography a few years ago, so I can’t wait to see what you have in store 👍🏻
This was like a composite masterclass !! Nicely done! Even the sock puppets were a nice touch :)
This is a fantastic vid! Glad you're back to UA-cam. The quality and information of your vids is always great.
Much better work mate!! More of a dramatic feel in the finality of your work. Great to see you back on YT btw!!
I'm pretty good with photoshop, but you totally taught me something here (with the way you manipulated the mask). Also I saw Mark's original video, and your edit was (easily) the best out of all of them.
This episode was outstanding.
👍😀
Great Job- I have just been learning this lately so nice to see your thought process-
Really glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Glad to see you back! Thanks for the video. I think your image is technically superior.
I'm happy you are back!! Love your enthousiasme. Can you tell something about photographing and compositioning in a flat landscape? Greetings from the Netherlands!!

Yours looks more realistic. Winner!
I'm so glad you're back! :)
Great video with some excellent techniques demonstrated well - I think Mark owes you some cash!
This just popped up, I use to watch Joshua all the time glad to see you back 👍👍👍
Wow, awesome job, you are a photoshop wizz.
Well done Bro! You make it seem so easy and logical.
Excellent job 👌🏻 Very good tutorial 👍🏻
Nice!!!! Thanks!!!
Damn I wish I had a tenth of your photography talent, awesome job
Good tips (all though I don't do composites) and yes, your composite is better than the ones in Marks video.
outstanding!!!!
Nice job!
You totally did a better job IMHO.
I had an ah-ha moment watching this video! Although I am still learning how to use Photoshop I can follow your thoughts and tips. Thanks Josh. Love the edit!
What's your take on sky replacement in Photoshop vs the AI sky replacement tool in Luminar 4?
Never used Luminar myself, but I hear it's pretty dang good.
excellent video
While this is cool, I hate composites and think it's ruining photography and what regular people expect from an image. I think if people composite things, they better be VERY CLEAR that it is a composite.
Good work
Serge Ramelli has a good way of matching colours during sky replacement. Give it a look if you don't know about it.
Glad to see you again. Since there's a lot of contrast between sky and ground, why not use luminosity masks to select the sky?
You could definitely do this, but since there is so much contrast I was confident the selection wand would work, and I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for those who don't know lum masks.
@@JoshuaCrippsPhotography thanks for the reply. Keep safe and health!!

LOL
Much Better than Mark's image

Or just color match the two in lightroom before export in photoshop?
Good job great points, I guess it also shows you get what you pay for......5 bucks dosn't buy much these days......
You sound like the Bob Ross of photography
There are no mistakes, just happy accidents
Great job Josh. I knew it will be rewarded not to cancel my sub for your channel ;-)
That’s a good job bro! Ask mark to send you a check Hahaha just kidding.
mark didnt have any sock puppets in his video.clearly you won
you did better i watch his competition video i replace skies using Luminar 4 simple and easier
Haha, loved the puppets! ;) On the other hand, I found the music to be super distracting, making the vid almost unwatchable for me. Horribly irritating. Excellent vid apart from that.
Well you win some you lose some I guess!
How about no music in the future ;-)
I'm sitting here in the fetal position trying to convince myself that Josh Cripps doesn't actually utilize sky replacements.
Good news, I don't! Sky replacement is not my cup of tea. But for those who are into it, I won't hold it against them.
Sock puppets 👍👍
You should get on Fiver. You could earn a lot of money ;-)
Clearly, Joshua did a better job in compositing the images.
great video
