US Mammoths: United, Delta And American: What Airline Is Best For Passengers?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
- Let’s compare the BIG 3 full-service US airlines and see which one is the best choice for travelers. When it comes to flying to, from, and within the United States, three big legacy carriers usually appear among a wide array of options. Whether you’re in a major American metropolis or a smaller city, you may have a choice between flying American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
We look at customer satisfaction, punctuality, bag losses, domestic and global reach, and partner airlines.

Given my own experiences, of this list of 3, Delta is 1st, United is about 8th, and American about 73rd.
True
United might have just dropped down to 72nd, somehow American is still worse despite this week's fiasco hahahah
Same here
Out of the three I always prefer to fly delta the flight attendants are always so accommodating
Agree
Delta is far and away my favorite airline. I started flying them in 2020 during the pandemic and never looked back.
I've always found Delta to have great service and punctuality. No surprise they were up top on both
So... Delta and Jetblue. Got it.
One word: Delta.
It could even be one letter
Phonetic Alphabet
United
@@OrangeCountyRails I flew ua exclusively for years. No more. 4 hours of turbulence. C'MON!!! Climb or descend. Anything. Just get out of the turbulence. The lady next to me was praying most of the flight. EWR-PHX. When we escaped more than a few were puking in the restrooms. I don't know about other airlines, but the ua gate area looks like a greyhound bus terminal.
Depends what for, traveling domestically yes, but part of the reason I shifted from Delta to American is that Skyteam is crap. Oneworld is way better and has far better destinations, in my Opinion
That was 3 Letters
I used to be a United frequent flyer until I moved close to a Delta hub. After a few rides with them I converted my status and never looked back lol. Delta, among these three, is just the best choice. I don’t care if I have to pay more for a delta route than a United/AA route that is the same but cheaper. I know I’m buying a better product.
Good report. I found your article informative and compatible with my feelings about these airlines. As a U.S. citizen I always try to choose a foreign airline( preferably Asian airlines) when flying internationally. Their cabin service is consistently much better than any U.S. flagged carrier. I honestly don't know if it is the culture or just exceptional management of these airlines. Having flown for many years, my all time favorite airline is Singapore Airlines followed by ANA, JAL, CHINA AIRLINES(TAIWAN) and EVA Airlines. On any of these airlines I am confident of having a pleasant flight with service that American airlines used to have back in the '70' and '80's, the " good old days" of flying. I do realize that many of the above mentioned airlines are subsidized by their national governments but their performance is so much better than any U.S. airline.
You are correct my friend. I just book a flight to Brasil back and forth from MIA, and the big three US airlines average price were $1500. I just bought it for $400 round trip and real food instead a cup of water and a bag of mini pretzels. US airline are ridiculous expensive and poor services.
Not sure about the others but I can tell you now that EVA Air is fully private with no government subsidy, and China Airlines is state-owned whilst turning a profit, and actually generates a net gain for the government rather than needing a subsidy.
1. Delta 2. United 3. American. I feel like this is generally the broadly accepted view. Yet it doesn’t really matter because if you’re a frequent flier, you go with whichever one uses your airport as a hub
That's right
facts and the hubs usually are your best bet for getting out or in
As a non-American, flying domestic in the U.S. with the BIG 3 has always been a not-so-great experience. Experiences with Delta have been okay-ish at best, but I'd avoid the other two like the plague.
What Airlines is your favorite
How does flying domestic have anything to do with your citizenship status?
@@MarvelandStarWarsProductions As another non-American who has flown domestic in USA, I always liked Alaska airlines.
@@MarvelandStarWarsProductions ALASKA
Based on my location and flying outta EWR so often .. United is usually my best bet . But Delta seems to get it right most times when compared to the rest .
That is the same with me and my family
What do you think of the big 3 US full-service carriers? Let us know in the comments!
(1) Coach: Seating is uncomfortable.(2) Coach + is what coach should be (3) First Class is acceptable, but not what first class used to be.
Dear Simple Flying, Can you do a video on who wont break things like COSTLY power chairs?
Pre covid, I think most business travelers would chose the airline with the best coverage for their needs. For example, I use to live in Denver. United was the best option. Now I'm in Seattle and Delta is the best option. If you travel a lot, getting to your destination with the least amount of stops is very important.
Southwest has as strong domestic matket and has flights to mexico and the carribean and has a route to ARuba which is technically in South America. Other than Hawaii and Aruba Southwest doesn't fly intercontinental.
United is my favorite
I would fly American any day. I only wish that they had more flights to my overseas destinations. Their One World Alliance does help.
oneworld is the worst alliance
@@gopher6532 what's the best then? Oneworld is the best in my book, and skyteam is dead last.
@@schalitz1 star alliance imo
United is simply the best. Largest fleet size in the world. Most destinations served so of course people will complain. At the end of the day my loyalty remains with United and the Star Alliance.
Livery-wise
1. Delta
2. United
3. American
This is just normal livery. United got first place with the Star Wars livery
Wish American kept the chrome
I definitely admire the Delta loyalists and Delta's partnership with Aeromexico always appeals to me. However, I've always been oddly drawn to United and enjoy flying with them. So much I've joined their frequent flyer program. If your flying American...I just can't see why... they never seem to be doing something grand for the customer.
Amazing content like always! You guys should do a video the top 10 largest airlines in the US. You could talk about the growth and expansion of the non legacy carriers.
United all day…. By far the best frequent flier program in the US…. Delta frequent flier is too much and you don’t get lounge access and American is the worst ever.
Yeah just don’t bring your dog on one of their planes.
@@Reidhirsch ...or a guitar.
Same. Got the card
United may have the best frequent flier program, but they certainly have the nastiest flight attendants and gate agents.
@@JasonCliftJones Old tulip United.
This is United only by name. It’s actually Continental Airlines, but with evil corporate executives 😤
Delta for me. But I don't really have much choice at my airport. Since all of the other airline's require a layovers to go to most domestic destinations I want to go to.
I just choose the cheapest!
Yes me too
It’s not a huge difference for domestic US travel I’ve found depending where your home airport is. I’d rather pay the $25-$50 and fly Delta rather than do Spirit for example… also connections are another factor. Saving $100 isn’t worth if it I have a 4h layover somewhere for a weekend trip.
You get what you pay for
US Mammoths : United, Delta and American
Jetblue: Good day gentleman, I am here to change the future.
Southwest to JetBlue: Same here.
While I love JetBlue, they and Southwest are still pretty limited in terms of reach to the point where they wouldn’t be considered “US mammoths”. I do hope that changes in the future though
@@christodang I just done a research and realized that if Jetblue buys more A321LR and XLR and know how to maximize the usage of their range, they can fly from Boston to Sydney via Honolulu, Tokyo to LA via Vancouver, and even Africa via stopovers like Dakar. Plus they also had joint venture with American, and Codeshare agreements with Qatar, giving Jetblue loyalist to fly basically worldwide with Jetblue code.
@@christodang and also, that's why I wrote 'to change the future'
No regional airlines to serve there small cities
I'm 47, and due to my older brother previously working for Delta, I've never flown anything but Delta domestically. We are planning another trip to Hawaii for vacation, and my wife has been trying to convince me to fly American because it's a little cheaper..... I was apprehensive... but after watching this and reading some of the comments, it's a wrap...🤣🤣 I'm not fooling with American Airlines.... with my luck, our luggage would never make it. I will never forget how helpful and attentive the Delta flight attendants were the 1st time we took our sons, and one of them got sick on the flight home due to the turbulence. They were awesome.
Delta crew is soo friendly. Delta for suuure
As a person who works for united airlines i can confirm that American Airlines losses the most bag, the amount of times that i have seen a American ramp agents drop bags on an active ramp while in transit to another plane blows me away. Not to mention that it will most likely be left there until someone like me who always runs out to get the bag does so, but most of the time its too late and the bag will be sent with another flight.
The missed bag thing was interesting. I’m curious how they got that 21-day number… I’d consider my bag missing (and, in many cases, my trip ruined) if it’s not at my arrival airport
Delta always takes care of me. I wish there were a greater variety of domestic routes, but maybe that’s how they manage to keep everything flowing so smoothly.
For me, Delta always seemed to have that little something extra. It's my perferred.
Southwest is my favorite domestic airline. I always try to book with them 1st. For international flight, i will try Delta if not I prefer international airlines.
I live at a united hub, so i really only have a choice to fly united domestically, without having a stopover. If its international, we generally avoid all us carriers and go with some international airlines like turkish, lufthansa, air canada, airfrance-klm, etc.
The fact that every US airline comparison feels like a Delta advertisement while not being one says something.
Brussels Airlines is a great partner for United. I have flown with them twice to Uganda and had a stellar experience both times.
Having flown on all three across the pond a few times (all pre Covid), my personal ranking looks like this:
1. Delta
2. United
3 to (insert high number here)
(high number plus 1). American
The gap between United and Delta is way smaller than between United and American.
My first US trip on American was supposed to go from my home base of Frankfurt to Charlotte and onwards to Chicago, with the Return being Chicago - Philadelphia - Frankfurt. Out of these four flights, only one happened as planned - the first one. Already in Frankfurt we got rebooked on a different flight from Charlotte to Chicago, and when we started boarding for the return flight, they announced "technical problems" halfway into boarding and eventually canceled the flight. We got rebooked on a return trip via Heathrow. (Surprisingly our bags made it)
The second time, the return leg Charlotte - Frankfurt got no less than 3 aircraft swaps after they started boarding, eventually leaving us with other seats than the ones we had booked and paid for with no compensation (Another gripe of mine is that even on transatlantic flights you have to pay to reserve a seat in advance on American, unless you are willing to have some crappy middle seat in the middle block). Add to this that the seat in front of us was designated as "crew rest" (which is totally okay), but that meant that a flight attendant SLAMMED the seatbacks into full recline right after take-off. When I politely told her that I totally understand that they need a rest area, but if she can put the seatback upright *as long as nobody uses it*, as it was already unbearable for us, we got yelled at "THIS IS A CREW REST AND IT HAS TO BE LIKE THIS!!!!" Needless to say - no crew member used it during the entire flight.Yeah, thanks for nothing. So while I think out of the three their planes have the cooles paint job, I will not set foot on their planes again unless I really have to.
When it comes to reliability and on-time performance, United and Delta have been on the same level for me. The only baggage oopsie I had to go through was not United's fault, but Lufthansa (they do the check-in for United in Frankfurt) and the baggage handlers at Frankfurt Airport. Could have happened anywhere else. However, Delta seems to have a slightly better cabin service with slightly more friendly attendants. (This is not to say that United's attendants were unfriendly, it's more like the difference between 🙂and 😁.) The main point for putting Delta ahead of United is that at least for my routes they use planes I like more than what United has to offer. I generally prefer the 767 or A330/A350 over the 777. The only advantage of United over Delta is their legendary "Channel 9" on the entertainment system, but with that needing the captain's permission, this is hit and miss.
I’d avoid united like the plague, try to always fly delta, only go on American if I have to
I live in Atlanta...you tell me
I'm in DFW. I know what you mean.
Lol
Unfortunately, the domestic airport I generally fly out of is not a hub or focus city, so the aircraft the Big 3 fly in/out of there tend to be older, dirty, with deferred maintenance on many interior fitments, though Delta does send an A220 in once a week (I have not yet flown on it, though). Just depends where in the system you get into things, and I rarely check a bag and don't worry about lost luggage.
United 🔥
You forgot Delta Korean covering Asia.
But United has Singapore, ANA, and many more five star airline partners
@@verslaflamme666 You have lost the overall point of the video. United brings star's average to three stars! lol
As a Southwest fan I find all three of the major tedious. I’m not a fan of the “nickel and dime” fee structure and I do like Southwest’s open seating. Having said that, I know a lot of people who are fans of Delta. I use American when I need to fly to areas outside of Southwest’s coverage or for long haul. They’ve always been good for me.
I love me so SW. I think is cheaper plus 2 free luggages and pick ur own seat. Is my favorite domestic airlines
Definitely Delta! Decent prices and MUCH better customer service!
1st Delta, 2nd Delta, 3rd Delta, ...
United is a good balance of cost effective Business travel, and service network for personal travel. Southwest has lost me as a customer since they pulled out of the major location at Newark NJ.
JD power did only 2.7k sample size?? Do they know how many people fly on the big three each year?!
Sorry but it does seem like this is a competition to be the worst lol. A 2.4%cancellation rate seems high for Hong Kong SAR CN standards
Flew american and they were very accomadating I think all 3 are good being a U.S. Citizen but American is my favorite
Looking very nice. Yes, having to live here in Chicago, I have always flown on United. And yes I have worked for United ad well.
Very good question
Delta by a descent amount
I always pick Delta
Loyal to American alway been the best for me. Fly monthly .
Delta please
American and United are my favorite airlines along with Southwest
There are very good reasons why Delta can charge 20% more than AA on the same flights.
I would rather pay Delta for a premium economy seat than having a free AA biz seat.
Why am I certain about this? Easy: experience. I learned from having lousy AA first class flights!
Every time I travel internationally I just go with an international carrier (mostly).
United all the way!
Given a choice, I would choose any East Asian carrier over any North American one. The big 3 gulf carriers are also worlds ahead of the North American ones.
Not really an option for domestic flying. The US big 3 have a near monopoly on domestic US flights due to market policy (a similar situation exists in Canada). It's anti-competitive but to be fair, I also I wouldn't expect any non-American airline to cater to any domestic travel outside of cities like NYC, LA and the like...so the US government kind of cornered the market for US airlines with the caveat that the smaller less profitable communities be served (at the cost of nickel and diming the rest of the country).
Ethadad is going under so I don’t worry about them
The video lines up with my expectations when flying. I prefer United for international and Delta for domestic if I can secure an economy seat with extra legroom or first class.
Southwest still the best for domestic flights (excluding Hawaii)
Delta used to be the best by far.
However with (understandable) covid cutbacks it is meh.
Delta ❤
This video is just a flex for delta!
Which of the Big 3 is the best for travelers, simple: JetBlue and Alaska Airlines.
Agreed - JetBlue is coming to my domestic airport soon for east coast travel, and Alaska is already here for west coast travel.
Would it be possible to have the same video but with KLM, SWISS, Air France??
too easy: Delta.... the other 2 are pretty much the same
Informative 👍
I havent flown delta in 2 years, but I have recently been on American and United. American may be good for long-haul, but I flew a quick route sfo-dfw. it had no entrainment or any snacks. my choice is always United with having a great variety of times in my area on USA
I have never flown on any of these 3 airlines so I can't say which is the best
I’m convinced that one of the biggest reasons people tend to be loyal to Delta is their partnership with AMEX. Delta is the only transfer partner out of the big 3. It’s pretty smart. IMHO once United has more than 50% of their narrow body aircraft flying with their new interior they are going to take a lot of market share in O’hare away from American and around the country where people are still flying delta at United Hubs.
I’ll be honest, I fly American because they always charge the lowest price for tickets to wherever I want to fly. Delta is insanely expensive so I’m never gonna be using them unless I win the lottery. And United thinks it’s okay to beat up passengers for not getting off a flight they paid for, and leaving an infant on board in a boiling plane with no air conditioning, so they’re dead to me.
United 😊American 😊
5:39 why does UA have a dot for ARN but Delta doesn’t for ARN or CPH especially when UA has ARN seasonally
I've flown domestically in the US pretty extensively, mostly on AA, but I have flown all three. I find the experience pretty interchangeable to be honest - there really isn't that much difference between them. One carrier might have a better IFE, for example, but another might have a better seat. I only favour AA because of oneworld. Service is usually fine - Americans are generally very service-oriented, so most crew in my experience are friendly and welcoming on all three carriers. What makes travel unpleasant in the US is the overcrowding of airports, and the appalling and atrocious behaviour of the other passengers. Virgin America was was a noticeably different airline and were lovely to travel with, especially in Business Class, but my problem with Virgin America was the slightly misogynistic and very dated sexy-tight-red-uniform-pouty-red-lipstick schtick that they had (and which Virgin Atlantic persist with). And their network was small, and their transcontinental service was not competitive. Still, they were lovely to fly with on short hops around the west coast.
Was going to say this as well. Im honestly humored by the people who are die hard fans of any of the big 3. All 3 of them have a below average service compared to many airlines around the world. The service isnt memorable or varied enough IMO to warrant a favorite. I have chosen which ever is the most convenient for me, which has been each one at various points in my life.
I don't perceive any difference between the three, so I fly whoever has the best itinerary and price. I do like that AA allows you to choose your meal in advance in F, and I don't understand why the others have not implemented this simple option.
Yup. I imagined Delta would take this easily. It looks like the most complete and polished of the three, even when I haven't flown in any of the three.
AA gave me a windowless window seat… I hate them because of that.
I never got the chance to fly delta…
I’ll still take jetblue/southwest over any of these if the route is shared with delta american or united
Me: hears luggage handling. My brain: United breaks guitars🎶🎶🎵🎵
JetBlue
You still forgot after tha
- Singapore Airlines and Thai can connect from the UA flights to the Southeast Asian cities as well as Asiana and ANA for the Japanese and the South Korean cities, even the Chinese flag carrier, Air China and Shenzhen Airlines for the Chinese market.
U.S. domestic: Southwest and Alaska. To Europe: Lufthansa and KLM. To Asia: certainly no U.S. airline! Preferred choices: ANA, Cathy Pacific, and Singapore.
If only Singapore Airlines flew direct to manila from the west coast.
I would much rather fly American over United
One word, Southwest
I've flew with Delta once and it was a horrific experience. Never again
can we get a video about United Next?
Coming from Asia, this will be useful for me post Covid when I want to go to South America via USA.
I'm a loyal Oneworld member having hold a membership in a FFP for almost a decade. However I know American isn't a favourite judging from online comments. Which is a shame, having the best opportunity to earn more points and status is from them.
I also hold an airline FFP from Star Alliance and SkyMiles membership. For Star Alliance due to current pandemic and can't leave the country for now, can only earn miles on daily groceries, which is better than none. For SkyMiles, the perks are good compared to United and American but unfortunately the use is very limited here and I got to wait till pandemic is all over.
Having said that, Delta is the number 1 choice if given the opportunity. Just wait for the skies to be blue again. 😊
fly an asian airline to the us
I fly American mostly and it has nothing to do with quality of service, that's for sure. It has everything to do with availability of flights (my nearest major airport is STL). They are also usually the cheapest of the three legacy carriers and sometimes cheaper than Southwest. I do upgrade if it's financially reasonable... But anyway...So if I had to pick one, it would be American based solely on availability of flights. Do other people not fly this way? Like, "if it's not Boeing, I'm not going", but put Delta or United (if you like getting beat up) in the place of Boeing... I just go with the airline that can get me where I need to go when I need to get there at the most reasonable, if not cheapest rate. As far as Spirit and Allegiant... They are available locally as is Frontier, but I would consider them to be subpar at best and last resorts. I recently flew a girl up to STL from DFW for a fun weekend and when I told her I'd booked her on American (and coach nonetheless) she got excited and referred to herself as a "high class hoe". Speaks volumes.
Right now some Delta 777s literally have the words “Mammoth” across. Intended or convenience?
I think American’s terrible IFE offering is one of the main reasons they have the lowest customer satisfaction of the three.
Delta is number one, if American continues on this track allegiant and spirit will over take in the matter of years. It’s sad that American has sunk this low, this what happens when you have management that cares about there own pocket instead of there workers. Anti unions 👎🏼
Delta but United to me have a better network
Even though Southwest (SWA) not included in here, I’m still voting for SWA. :) United Airline next after Alaska Airline because of their Polaris Business class.
Same. Sw is my favorite domestic airline.
DELTA ALL THE WAY‼️ except for Asia, I’d rather fly United.
Delta
im happy with american idk about you guys
I always avoid United and American if I can. Their service has always been bad from my perspective. I check jetblue first and then Delta.
do this for asia
Worked for all 3 carriers. They definitely have their good and bad days. They all really try their best to benefit the customers and their employees. (Which has better benefits, hands down, compared to other airlines outside the US, especially at entry level)
After all, we are the USA 🥴👀.. they do go out their way to be the best, even if it seems like they aren’t. I’m pretty sure the US passengers has the most violence on board as well compared to other countries.. US carriers has so much demand on their hands from everyone.. compared to other top tier airlines who doesn’t have much to choose from. 🤷🏻♂️
Which would you recommend working for?
They are pretty much the same...Yeah, a few small differences here and there, but overall the same.
Delta is king of the u.s. sky.
Where's Oceana?? I've heard of Oceania.....
Sorry, they Lost.
Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii in some senses, Fiji, Guam, Samoa, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea… you get the picture
