I love these video break downs. Chris genuinely loves Magic. He gives newbies and unknowns credit where it's due and never exposes their tricks. Sometimes I follow the magicians he features. Great stuff man. Positive leader of your community. This is the type of contribution that breeds success and support for others. Salute.

Chris, I know a while back you were having issues and contemplating the future of this channel. I want you to know that I am happy you continue to keep it alive, I was once a young aspiring majician, putting on shows for friends and family, life happens and that stopped for me, but since I found you and your channels, I have renewed my love for the majic...... and for this I want to thank you!

Ruler through the box - there is a slit on one side for the glass piece to slide out. He's not exposing it, obviously. But at 3:57, you can see the glass piece pressing against his thumb if you pause and look closely.

When you go into the water you create a cavity of space, you put the ball at the right spot and when the water comes back together it makes a big splash and the ball is shot upwards. Use to do this when I was younger. Its a great feeling when you poke you head out of the water and are like where did the ball go, then 5 seconds later you hear it land.

the water video with the jar is just an example of surface tension. We do it every year at work for the local science fair. Very real. . . . pretty cool. We share it along with the diving bell spider that can "walk on water". Same principle.

    • @Diogenes2077

That retention vanish was sick. In the frame-by-frame, the last glimmer off the coin makes the slight "flash" of the steal (if you can call it a flash) look as if it's just the last glimpse of the dull part of the coin. At least that's what it looked like to me. It's so nice, I just kept watching it over and over.

13:22 The idea that a thing should only float for a half a second and any longer ruins the magic, or something along those lines, reminds me of something I read many many years ago and haven't been able to find, precisely anyway, about magic that's "too perfect." It was a really interesting thing. Something I always felt intuitively but could never quite put into words when I was younger. Knowing something just isn't possible to do (a-la a lot of Criss Angel's material,) just ruins the entire effect for me, even if it's done well, or if it's still very creative, it's just not "magic" to me anymore at that point.
The people who understand that, and who can design and/or perform effects that perfectly straddle that line are my absolute favorite. Chris and a lot of his friends we see on the channel all seem to have a very intuitive understanding of this concept. I love it.

  • @SmilingDesertCreature-ug1zv

I think I know exactly how that ruler thru piece of glass works. It's exactly like that trick with the round plastic box, where you put a real quarter inside, put the lid on top,the box and lid both have holes, and then you push eight plastic nails through the box,and it looks like they're going through the coin inside! Then, you remove the nails, open the lid,and show the coin is still whole, solid, and fills up most of the inside of the bottom part of the box! When you go to put the first nail in,you put it in on one side, and the nail pushes the coin upwards on it's side, leaving room for the other nails to go thru the box! That's the secret of that trick! The ruler thru the square glass works exactly the same way! Even if the glass is laying on a slit in the middle of the box,it can still be pushed up on it's side by the ruler!

    Good Day Chris,
I just Subscribed, and have started
    watching your content.
    Fun stuff.
Quick answer to your question @ about 04:55 in the video concerning the natural reaction of large volumes of water interacting… I believe what this video demonstrates is when freshwater collide with high saline count water like where a river of a significant volume meets the ocean.
The difference in density creates a very distinct “ mixing area of effect.
I agree it is perplexing if you have never seen it 🙂

  • @dawnnightinger3025
    @dawnnightinger3025 7 місяців тому

The water in the bottle uses air pressure to keep the water from draining out. As soon as you turn the bottle though, air tries to enter the bottle and it creates a siphoning effect. The water one was most likely two separate densities of water crashing into each other. You can even see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans do this dance too.

I don't know how the ruler through the box works and it's one of the few up close magic tricks that has really broken my brain lately so I don't really want to know. I still REALLY enjoy magic when it's done well enough to fool me even when I know how it's being done. But these days I actually know how a A LOT of it works. It's a different kind of joy to see something that fools me that I don't understand.

14:00 yeah totes agreed.. it's sometimes what you _don't_ do... David Blaine's levitation for example.
The fact he "strains" to get it, and then when he does it's for only a millisecond sells the illusion.

That retention vanish seems to be a good old camera trick. And by now everyone should know that the Got Talent shows are just "fake", meaning that everything is forced, judges reactions are fake and exagerated just to make the program and the acts seem interesting, so when they see a magic trick, they just act as if it was the first time in their life they're watching it.
