- We're quite excited about Final Fantasy 15, but with Kingsglaive, Brotherhood, and the rest of the extended universe, it's easy to be behind on the story before the game even starts. So, here's Aoife with an explanation of everything that happened up until you select 'New Game.'

I'm so happy you pointed out the thing about Prompto losing the weight not because Noct ignored him, but because it made himself more confident. Seems people forget some people want to be normal weight because they want to.
Well I think its clearly expressed in the anime as well. Not once do we see evidence of Noct staying away from Prompto prior to his weight loss. Noctis actually is seen looking for Prompto, which made me feel like the weight had nothing to do with Noctis's approval but rather just Prompto's own self-confidence.

Nix is probably the coolest character in the game's world... and he died before the game evwn start.

If it even comes close to FFX in terms of story development I'll be happy. What I loved about FFX story is that both the player and the main character enter the story just as clueless as to what the hell is going on, and both stay ignorant of what is actually tramming until the endgame, when you finally realize that everyone was lying to you in order to keep your blissful ignorance and your hopes alive. It was really masterfully done, as far as video game narrative goes... Still my favorite to this day. I hope the devs took inspiration from it.
What did you think of it? I was VERY disappointed...FFX has so much character/story development and this one did not have much at all. IMO

Lunafreya Nox Fleuret Yeah, I didn't get that either. He reminds me a bit of Seifer.
He develops stocolhm syndrome growing resentment for Regis for not stopping to help him and his mom(although she was dead, as he was in shock he didnt realise at that moment), and then that syndrome and resentment grows into hate an that makes him go along with niflheim's plans for his on revenge reasons, thats why he doesnt reply to luna when she inquires into why helping niflheim and is also the reason he wanted the ring for his own, sounds kind of wierd I know but is actually a plausible reason since both the syndrome and resentment towards rescuers have been together in real life in cases of kidnap or wars. I hope that helped to understand Ravus motives
Ravus acted as a complete jerk in this,but in general he is very good character.
I'm going to miss Nyx, lol. He would be a great main character. Looks like the main cast of the game is pretty good too, though.
I'm still holding out hope he'll show up in XV, he was too good of a character to limit to dying in the movie :(

I liked Nyx, but he was a little too "hero-y" for me. I mean he was bad-ass but the whole "I have to be the hero thing" is kinda old. I like how Noct doesn't even look at himself as a hero.. it's not even on his mind. Which gives him tons of room for character development.

I agree with you about Prompto being the most awesome character! Btw, thinking of the anime, the story about how he befriended Noct is so weird. I mean, the fact that Pryna was just in front of his door, how she mysteriously disappeared during the night after staring at him, Gentiana suggesting Lunafreya to write him a letter, in which she asks him to befriend Noct.
I'm sold on the entire Brotherhood already, but Prompto has this excitement about him that I love

When you watch this vid and realize you didn’t really follow every plot detail but low key enjoyed what you were able to follow, exploring the world, and fighting shit with the boys. LOL at promto being chubby originally lol same bro... same
they never actually showed nyx dying - the kings said his life belongs to them or something like that which doesn't necessarily mean death and the end of kingsglaive is pretty open ended about it so i reckon we'll see him in ffxv cos he was so aweseome - but probably as some kind of slave or something to the kings or something...

"YOU LET NIFELHIEM KILL MY FAMILY AND TAKE MY HOME, SO I AM JOINING NIFELHEIM!!!!"
I think the best way to think about is: We left our protective kingdom to help you out, and you didn't even bring enough guards!
When you think about humanity, rarely do we always make the most sensible decisions. If you put yourself in his shoes here he is kneeling over his dying mother and he knows the only person who can help is Regis and as he goes to call for Regis's help he sees him running away with Noctis and Luna, potentially feeling utter betrayal that Regis would completely ignore and forget Revus and take Luna. Yeah he "should" hate Niflheim cuz they are the ones who actually killed his mother, but he, like other naturally-flawed humans, directs his anger towards the person who could've saved him. He sees the niflheim as his way to get revenge on Regis since they also want to take over Lucis (enemy of my enemy is my friend) and so he chooses to side with them. Yeah thinking about it it doesn't make much sense, it isn't the "logical" choice of hate, but that's what makes him a human being. We don't always make the most logical choices. It is not poor plotine, it's a flaw that makes him a more real character. He's also a male and the eldest sibling, so honestly I think it makes a lot of sense.

completely agree with chase here, also remember he was a young adult at most when it all went down, nifheim had plenty of time to feed his anger and manipulate him, mold him for there own needs
But what about the general himself who betrayed the kingsglaive, and most of the kingsglaive itself? they all had their homes taken by Nifleheim, so they ally themselves with Nifleheim in revenge, against Lucis. I kinda get where they are going with the blame game but its really silly. It would be like if some gang murdered my family, and I join the gang to fight the police because Im angry that the police didnt stop the gang.
I'm gonna be honest, I am so lost about everything that was said! But still... CANNOT WAIT TO PLAY THIS!

This was by far the most well executed explanation of the entire story, not too long, informative and to the point.
Would be nice if King's Tale could be available from anywhere other than just Gamestop.
So in the actual game, is the player just going to be dropped into the car-breaking-down-scene and supposed to piece the backstory together?
There may or may not be inclusion of plot from the movie and anime strewn throughout the game. My guess is you'll learn it as Noctis learns it so without the movie or anime you'll have a less detailed knowledge of the backstory. But, regardless, you need to think of this game as being a part of the universe of the movie and anime. They're great. Watch them.
Probably yes, i believe this is an awesome thing to make, separating the game this way i mean, and you can quickly watch the movie and animated series.

King Regis' voice was heard among the old kings, I wouldn't be surprised if Nyx only died as a human and may come back as something else.
It makes sense for Regis' voice to be heard, considering it's the voices of the old kings, the previous kings. Since Regis died he is now a previous king so his voice is added. That wouldn't apply to Nyx though, since he wasn't a Lucii king. Though I do hope he comes back because he was such a good character...
I would say it is possible as he was deemed worthy and could in a sense be considered king if only for the night.

I would prefer if Regis became Odin ... if that's even possible, since he is one of the kings he is one of the Knights of Round so doubling as Odin also may be a little bit much.
I just like the idea that Nyx is Ifrit. The way Ifrit appears sitting just like Nyx was in Kingsglaive while playing with his fire magic.
Really, whichever it is, it will probably be cool.

We don't see Nyx die so I wouldn't assume kingsglaive is the last we've seen of him, I think we'll see him for sure in the game in some form or another.
1st time watcher... i like the video.. brought me up to speed on what i should knw before playing the game... your delivery is eloquent & concise and i like ur eyebrows and think that ur cute... its a shame we cant switch characters in the game...
IMO they used background platforms such as anime and movies to let the audience understand the theme itself, they don’t want to make the same mistake on 13. Where almost everyone did not understood what the hell was fal’cie and l’cies are.

Luna is in my opinion, an incredibly important character in this FF game. She's an oracle charged with preventing the Plague Of The Stars or Scourge that the entailing darkness wants to happen. So she's marked for death by these entities. She however, can't completely rid this however. A being crowned by the crystal marked as 'The King of Light' can rid the stars of this unfortunate fate, which is apparently Noctis. Side note; IF Noctis is led from this path... he can also cause it.
Already we've got an important female leading role. She's holding the world together from the darkness while waiting for Noctis to be crowned by the crystal. I like where this game is going, I enjoyed the movie and look forward to experience Square Enix's title that took so long to make. Hopefully it is worth the 70 quid I'm about to pay for the pre-order :')
Man this story already is complicated before the damn game even starts. Its story using heavily on the crystals makes me think they never completely scrap the crystal story series that tied it in with FF13.

Zyon Henderson Listen. I've been into hardcore Final Fantasy and Games communities, who are over-pessimistic about things in XV.
And I've been trying to be(and make others) as optimistic as possible, not for myself, not for game to turn out great, or for gamers and communities to be satisfied,.. but for the team behind XV.
If you have followed the development, from the views of the devs, you'll see simply how hard it is. I mean, people are loosing sleep and health and family time, simply for our enjoyment. Some mad respect right here.
Not just that, Square Enix is in dire straits, and has lost quite some money these past few years. This game is their redemption of sorts. All their hopes and dreams bank one it, so you can see why they are going all out on this. I know a lot of people hate "modern" Square Enix, but it makes me shudder imagining a gaming world without them.
My concern with this comment is that, many times, devs(including SE themselves) have lost sight of their narrative when they try to go "all out". Also, they add a lot of Japanese cultural stuff, which many International gamers don't understand and sometimes regard it as negative thing (though that's hardly an issue, SE localizers are quite good).
So, after seeing the situation devs are in, and hardship they had to face from more than 10 years, I am totally not "not optimistic". In fact, I have to be. For them.

New viewer here. Great video! Having only played FF12, I'm left in the dust when it comes to the storyline. I'm skeptical with this one, however, the gameplay looks pretty damn cool. I think I'll check it out.

so ravus joined nifelheim, who killed his mother ( general glauco to be specific). why don't he take revenge by just killing general glauco in the first place then kill king regis for not protecting his mom...i dont get his logic lol
if you think it that way you are right, it's senseless. but there is a theory around about how things are a lot more deep, and dark. There migh be a super dark secret in the Lucis kindgdom that makes Ravus hate king Regis and his country than just his weird and senseless revenge thirst.
His country is invaded + his mom got killed not long after King Regis stepped foot on his land. Plus he knows about the ring and the forbidden power it has.

From what I read Ravus still is not a big fan of Nifelheim, there just wasn't much he could do abou it. His hatred towards Regis is one of the major themes of Kingsglaive, it's basically why most of the antagonistic characters hate the king.
As Glauca says near the end of the movie "I don't hate those who took what was given, I hate the one who gave it."
So basically he blames Regis for allowing his mother to be killed and for running to protect Noctis instead of helping his own people. Because of that his own mother was murdered and his people enslaved.
Ravus just is using his current status within the Nifelheim army to gain more power to exact revenge on both Lucis and Nifelheim. His entire goal in the movie was to steal the ring during the invasion, that of course didn't work in his favour at all. I don't know how the rest of Nifelheim will take to him knowing that he basically flat out planned to betray them.

Final fantasy xv related to the Flintstones. According to history, a comet hit and wiped out the Dinosaurs. Bahamut was a soldier who was on his way home, while the comet crash. Bahamut was affected by the radiation turning him into a God. Arriving to his house where, he saw the soul of Fred Flintstone. Bahamut collected the soul of his son for years after. Fred was reborn as Noctis Lucis Caelum.

This was a good watch for an FF noob trying to decide whether or not to buy XV. But dayyymn that was alot of names that got thrown at me, I guess I should watch Kingsglaive.
I do have one question though, is the background music in this vid the music used while exploring in XV? Because that was really enjoyable.

I hope there's going to be a follow-up video explaining the whole story now that the game has come out. I was disappointed with the story sorta 3/4th's through, but I'm guessing it's because I didn't understand some story point. Would greatly appreciate a quick review.

Where is some if this info coming from? I ask b/c I've seen King's Glave & the Brotherhood miniseries & now I'm way more invested in the story. I tried not to watch any trailers or gameplay & haven't played Ep. Duscae either so idk if I'm missing anything that way. Some of the decisions by the development team are off putting so the more invested in the story I am the more I'll overlook those concessions for a broader audience. Thanks for any info guys

Each FF has a story of it's own, you don't need to play other games to understand this one, as people said before, you should watch FFXV Brotherhood & Play the platinum demo and that's basically it :)
Thanks, now I played the Platinum Demo, watched the movie, watched the anime, watched the hentai and bought noctus his car in RL. Im ready for the next 100 spin-offs that are coming in the future before the game releases in 2035.

Oh my god, can someone at Square give Aoife a job? She did a MUCH better job of explaining FFXV than they've managed to do. Even though I watched Kingsglave, it was pretty poorly told and towards the end I got totally lost. It DID give me some context for FFXV but I didn't even know the Brotherhood anime stuff even existed.

I'm about 2 hours into the game right now (so no spoilers please!) but does all of this stuff get covered in the actual game at some point? It seems like it would be really important to know, especially for someone like me who is a first time FF player.
im calling it, ardyn will be like a kefka villain, right hand man of the evil emperor, deceptively subservient at first, but then snags the power from the emperor at the last minute, OR already has power but is hiding it/lost it, and will eventually become a god enemy that has atleast 3 forms.

There's no way they could: 1. make Nyx so awesome in KG 2. ot show him actually dying and 3. not have him make some type of appearance in XV. The camera pan out before he "died" confirmed nothing.
Ive just downloaded XV and am playing blind to the series! This video alomg with the brotherhood anime and the film have helped me gain a good understanding of the lore before jumping in! Thank you 😊

U can also say King Regis always knew that the empire will fall because he chose to save his son, not the people by sending him away. This can be seen in the Omen trailer.

It's kind of a shame that the prequel stories are more in depth than the actual main game story. I hope Sqenix sorts that out with the update.
