- Rudolph runs us through the very basics on when to strike a fish and set the hook whilst getting a bite. We briefly discuss the different techniques when using 'Circle' and 'J' hooks as well as how different species feed when eating a bait.

I've been surf fishing for 45 years, with J - hooks. I always wait for the fish to swim away with the bait - then strike - once hard, then soft as I start cranking. In my experience, it's best to stay in contact' with the bait by taking up the slack carefully - and wait for the heavy bite. Sometimes a full minute or 2 can go by - then suddenly the fish will take it hard.
I was confused why I missed a lot of these tutorials because I'm subscribed so I checked my notifications and made sure it was set to all posts. Hopefully now I can get all the postings as they are uploaded to the internet (and I don't miss a hook up again)
