My mom (89) suffered a stroke and she went to the hospital. We realized my dad (96) was worse off than mom. Between us 5 kids, we took turns coming to the house to put him to bed, dress him etc every other weekend. We all worked, so had International caregiver live at the house - they stayed 24/7 for 2 weeks, then we had the weekends. It was hard, but we managed to keep him at home till he passed. Best memories, listening to his war stories at 3am (cuz he couldn't sleep) but I had to get up for work in 3 hours. You just do it.
My seven brothers and sisters did the same for my Dad when he became bed ridden. Once he died we’ve continued to stay with my 90 year old mom so she’s not alone because she has serious vision loss. Fortunately her memory isn’t an issue. We’ve been doing this for three years. It helps to have a big family.
I love how you always gently reassure your Dad that everything is ok , especially when he seems concerned about money , you always tell him he has plenty of money and he can go to the bank anytime he wants . You guys always give him his dignity that’s love ❤️

I have an elder Mom with short term memory issues.. The repeating over and over again...is exhausting and for me the most difficult part of the whole thing. Some days I am at my wits end. I started walking every morning for 30 minutes...helps me a lot. Have siblings but no help... I am at this 24/7. Anyway I watch daily because I feel we are a family dealing with this. Thank you!!
Wishing you the best. My ex husband and I took care of his mom for 11 months. After her husband passed. It wasn't easy. We had promises of help from the other 2 siblings. But we never saw them at all, during that time. Not until we were exhausted and couldn't go on . We were probably too young and inexperienced. With 2 young children. She unfortunately got rather dangerously violent. Grabbed the steering wheel one day, trying to drive the car off an embankment. Because she didn't want to go to the doctors. That was frightening. Hang in there if you can. There is also no shame in not being able to do it anymore. 🌻 It's emotionally draining on your own.
Hi Dan. I’m a Muslim mother daughter and nana. My entire adult life I’ve been planning to take care of my parents. My father passed away and now I’m praying that I get to look after my mother when she needs to be cared for. As Muslims we know that the keys to the doors of paradise is taking care of your parents. I been keeping up with you and your dad . It’s great to see a son that loves his dad so deeply and how you take of him letting him live with you. Most family members put their parents in a nursing home for reasons like this . This what families are for . It’s very rare to see families like yours Dan. God bless you and your family 🙏🏻 Keep up the amazing work with your dad.
Dan is such a wise and loving person. I totally learn from his videos with his dad, or what I'd like to call a masterclass in being a good human. The golden rule in practice here. Thank you, Dan for letting us know your family and especially Grampa. He is in good hands.
I took care of my mom with dementia. My sister did most of the caring, because we live in different states. The only thing I want to tell people is that brothers and sisters stay close while your parents are alive, that way you can help each other when the time comes to take care of your parents. I hated the fact that we all lived in different states. After your parents are gone, then move where you want to. Dan, you and Danielle are doing a wonderful job!
Kindness can transform someone's dark moment with a blaze of light. You'll never know how much your caring matters. Make a difference for another today.

Lost my mother at 91 in 2017. She suffered from the same exact short term memory loss. She had three sons and we all looked after her in the final years. She had been an RN for 50 plus years. Enjoy your Dad every day. Best!
The appeal for me is he reminds me of my own Dad who passed away in 2016. My Dad did not have dementia yet he shared the same polite verbiage “pardon me” when hard of hearing, concern for his family, a twinkle in his eye of days gone by. I just love him. He brings my own Dad back to life for me. Great job Dan and Mark, Danielle etc.
Bringing my Dad into our home, became a gift for our daughter, who got to bond with him, have fun with him, who gleaned wisdom and affirmation from him about some common struggles in life, and who witnessed what it means to be family, to look after one another. Priceless!

Until you have walked in Danielle's shoes, you shouldn't judge her. Unless you can show she isn't good with grandpa, which you can not from their videos!!
@@tonyaperry4763 she has no emotions or feelings for Grandpa. There are many videos where you can see her cold behaviour.
"Hes' still making my life better, more fun and is still contributing and helping us." Dan I love that you give well deserved credit to your Dad. Your father is a treasure and you, Danielle and Mark are helping so many people. Best!
The son is wonderful with his dad! He has so much patience and the dad is the cutest, I ❤️ watching them. Even though you can tell the dad has dementia, we can tell the dad was a great dad and he loves his family and it appears he took great care of them. So his kids are taking good care of him in return and that’s the way it goes. God Bless them. Bravo ✌🏽
I completely agree ❤️🙏
No he doesn't have that much patience with him. .....he yells at him alot...
@@funkynassau..4881 He's not yelling. He's being Stern with him.
@@jamyzahniser8961 Jamy... I took care of my mother the last three years of her life..Started out like Ed...graduated to total invalid...
All I'm saying is , and not be negative..Dan ain't seen NOTHING YET... And again from experience Dan needs to chill on occasion..
Much love to Dan & Danielle they are doing the best they know how..😊 Dan needs to talk to a dementia consultant..
@@funkynassau..4881 he yells only bc his dad is very hard of hearing
Hats off to Mark n Dan & Daniel. Actually the whole family is a part of the Dr's life. God Bless all of you.
Danielle
Mark & Dan are doing great job taking care of their father and thats how it should be. Thanks for sharing your daily life. I hope many poeple follow your foodsteps and take care of their parents at old age.
Wonderful story and family. Kudos to you all. You found a way.
Absolutely… you just for it. Thanks for sharing.
I love how you always gently reassure your Dad that everything is ok , especially when he seems concerned about money , you always tell him he has plenty of money and he can go to the bank anytime he wants . You guys always give him his dignity that’s love ❤️
Dan loved the interview. You are a kind patient man god will bless you ❤️❤️
I made it to 23 minutes without frying crying. What a warm, empathetic, loving man this is. He spoke so highly of his Dad and it hit me in the gut every time. Just beautiful - really like his outlook on life too! ❤
During high school, I worked as a CNA on an Alzheimer’s unit. The quality of life you are giving “Grandpa”, is admirable. He is a true gentlemen. ❤
You are doing a great job ! This is an honorable profession. CNA should get higher pay and be recognized for their hard work!
Because you show compassion that many people forget that.❤
I am from Ethiopia and I live in germany. I am a fan of Dan and his father, we also protect our elder family, so i very love them very much when they are protecting him.
I really love watching this family. Even with dementia he always wants to make sure his family is okay. He has a great heart ❤️
Thank you Dan with your gracious special dad. You and your family are amazing family. May God bless you and your dad in a very special way. Thank you very much 🙏🇼🇸🇬🇧
I just want to give Dan, Danielle and Mark a big hug, for helping to change the world in this way. Love you guys!
“Giving back what my Dad had given me” That’s beautiful !!!
Great son, his wife, and his kids.
I simply love the warmth in the son's voice. It is about a son showing love to his dad, not a person looking after a dementia patient please!!!! All blessings to you!!!!
❤️
Ed is such a nice man. Not all dementia patients are so easy going. No matter, it has to be exhausting constantly repeating his situation to him.
I RAN INTO DAN'S VIDEOS WITH HIS DAD ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND GET THEM EVERY DAY!! 10 MILLION SO FAR!! THAT'S INCREDIBLE!! GOD IS CERTAINLY USING THIS PRECIOUS RETORED DR STORY!! I WILL BE BACK WITH MINE!
I have to say I find Dan Salinger’s gratitude to and appreciation of his Dad to be deeply heartwarming. The entire Salinger family is doing an amazing job of caring for Ed. And what a guy he is.
We love “Dad” he shows us that we’re not alone in our journey with our 92year old mom
Dan you have a very nice relationship with your Dad I love how you express full conversation with your Dad and how sincere he is when he answers you or asks you different things and your so patient with your answers to him..my Dad use to say to treat people the way you want to be treated..
I like to say it's about Dan too because he is a great son to his dad with dementia. Without Dan his father would probably less fortunate.
Both sons have helped with their Dad!
@@jankasza5538 yes, just because Mark doesn’t want to be a you tube star doesn’t mean he doesn’t contribute equally. Danielle really takes a beating from social media.
Don't forget Mark as well.🤗
Salute to you Dan Salingenr of California This from the Philippines!!
He's capturing everyone's heart because he is sweet, has a great attitude and seems like he is a wonderful father and I just love him! ❤
Your dad used his youth to serve the world at the shoe shop and as a podiatrist. At his old age ,he is still giving people hope.
Bravo Grand dad Ed
Wow! I love your words! 👍
I fell in Love with Grandpa. I'm 46 years old n had a near fatal car accident 02/27/1993 brain damage, short term memory loss. I understand n have alot of compassion for Grandpa n the family. LOVE Nicole from Tampa. Prayers n Blessings...❤
He is a sweetheart, and his son does a great job with his interactions.
Thank you!!
My best to you friend. 🙏🏾
My heart goes out to you. Please take good care of yourself, what you're doing is hard going and your mom is lucky to have you. God bless you both.
It's emotionally draining on your own.
It’s not easy but love conquers it all.
Rest assured, your efforts aren’t wasted. God Almighty will enrich your life in more ways than you can imagine.
Nothing is better than a real home care.
Your father sweetness brings me to tears. Precious, priceless, what a gem
Robs dad must have been a heck of a man. Responsible, productive, loving family man, who has a wonderful family. You guys rock!
He is a great dad. I just love to watch him.
Master class on being human.... Thank you Dan
I love Dan and his dad, makes me smile everytime
Dan and Mark.
Hi Dan.
I’m a Muslim mother daughter and nana. My entire adult life I’ve been planning to take care of my parents. My father passed away and now I’m praying that I get to look after my mother when she needs to be cared for.
As Muslims we know that the keys to the doors of paradise is taking care of your parents.
I’m very impressed and insured Dan. Thank you so much for countless reasons major one for taking CARE of your dad.
Thank you thank you from the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪
Much love and respect to you and your family ❤
You area wonderful son .God bless you
The reason he is loved so much is because of his happy disposition! No matter the topic he usually always has a smile❣️
It’s about millions of us out here can relate to him, for we’ve gone through what he’s gone through and he’s doing just a fantastic job with his father
I think I have never responded, but I just love father and son also his wife who sometimes pops in ! I tune in always tune in from Australia ! Hope he found his checkbook, so lovely ! I starting forgetting too, I am over the mid eighties ! ❤

I just love watching & learning from Dr Ed Salenger & his son Dan. I recently started noticing that I am forgetting things (my short term memory)❤
I watch grandpa every night . I lost my grandmother in 2019 with Dementia. It’s so hard. Grandpa brings me joy n I adore him.
What a special family !!
I bet your dad was really a good
podiatrist, he still remember some things as
he did when he was a doctor, that's wonderful.
Oooh I wish he could deal with my plates of meat(feet)
I been keeping up with you and your dad . It’s great to see a son that loves his dad so deeply and how you take of him letting him live with you. Most family members put their parents in a nursing home for reasons like this . This what families are for . It’s very rare to see families like yours Dan.
God bless you and your family 🙏🏻 Keep up the amazing work with your dad.
He loved hearing Dan salinger while watching it on the TV. He sounded so very proud, I've never seen him smile a smile so bright
Dan, Danielle and Mark such a wonderful family taking care of his dad, loving and supportive I love watching the videos , what a great interview 🥰
Love Grampy Ed - his family...May the Lord wrap his arms around you all.
A year later and he’s still at it with so much care patience and agape love for his father 🥲 what a great example he’s been displaying for the world ❤
It’s the loyalty towards your parents so valuable
Dan is such a wise and loving person. I totally learn from his videos with his dad, or what I'd like to call a masterclass in being a good human. The golden rule in practice here. Thank you, Dan for letting us know your family and especially Grampa. He is in good hands.
Give yourself some of the credit Dan. You show your Father love, understanding and patience. ❤
I love that you say your dad is STILL contributing to you all and also that you kept him HOME… safe with family. 🙏‼️🙏‼️🙏
Amazing son God is truly Going to bless him and his whole family for taking care of him and not throwing him and some nursing home
I watch this. You know he was a wonderful dad by the way his children care and love him. Very heartfelt.
My dad had dementia and he was always worried about his check book! That’s what got my attention! Love you keep up the good work😊
The same thing happened with my Dad, he always wanted to go to work and have money in his wallet.🕊
Dan I enjoy you and Rob on the road, you really telling everyone about Dad ❤ luv it
Kindness can transform someone's dark moment with a blaze of light. You'll never know how much your caring matters. Make a difference for another today.
Dad is so well mannered, diplomatic, and CUTE! What a combination! HE certainly has an impact on all of us.
Caregiving is extremely hard work❤ kudo's to your wife❤❤
Dan, Grandpa and Danielle are my favorite folks on TikTok!! Can go from a cranky mood to a happy mood as soon as Grandpa hits the screen!!! Our little Georgia family loves y’all! 🥰
Your dad reminds me of my dad. The things he says. You treat your father exactly how someone with dementia should be treated. Respectful, supportive and positively. I hope others learn from you all.
Dan, you are awesome. We need more people like you in this world. I spent 10 years of my life working with one is not an easy job. Good job, sir.
I love this. I lost my dad to dementia a little over a year ago. He fought for so long. He died young at 68. God rest his soul I miss him everyday
I’m sorry for the loss of your dad. He did die so young. I believe he is in a better place. ❤️🇨🇦
Sorry to here that seems young ..
He was soo young.
I'm sorry for your loss. 🥰
I absolutely love the father. He's a an absolute keeper.
That was beautiful for me Thank you 🙏
Lost my mother at 91 in 2017. She suffered from the same exact short term memory loss. She had three sons and we all looked after her in the final years. She had been an RN for 50 plus years. Enjoy your Dad every day. Best!
What nice humans she raised
Parenting your parents. Wow. Lord, help me when it's time to parents my parents .
Beautiful interview. Thank you for this.
Awesome interview! Grandpa is very charismatic. Much appreciation for Mark, Dan and Daniella.
This man is such a good person. Patient, loving and a star in his own right!😊
This man has got a kind soul. 🙏
mark and dan take care of their dad so well even with dementia
Priceless!
Dan and Danielle, the world is attracted to your entire family. Seeing how loved your Dad is makes me smile with every post. Thank you guys for sharing.
And Mark….his brother keeps their dad too…let’s not forget him!
I’m a registered nurse and continue to learn from both of you as I continue to care for people with dementia/ Alzheimer’s disease. Thanks for teaching me.
What's the difference between alzheimer's and dementia
El SALVADOR 🇸🇻🇸🇻 LOVE THIS FAMILY !!!
You are a lucky son Dan. Even in your fathers state you can tell hes just a great man. I wish we could bottle him up and spread it out on this new generation.
