Oh man, if this was a Netflix series, I'd binge watch for sure. The lighting that Philip used in his game is amazing. He mentioned that was made in Unity. Is this technique possible Godot?
You have to hand it to the particle animation system in Unity, which I feel tied the lighting together very well!! This is incredible. I especially love the first one - being able to create this within such a short time is just unbelivable. Also the fact that he provided the entire project to look into how he's done stuff is amazing :)
Philip pulled off a 2D game with a much more convincing 3D aesthetic than that Soup game. Now I'm interested in to putting Normal Maps and realistic Lighting in to my own 2D game as well. If they were to make another new Soup game, they should use this technique as well.
So awesome how different the games ended up to become. Also in art-style and such it was really a huge difference. The first one with great lighting, second one with really flat style and the last one with the black-white tone. Really inspiring all!
Neat to see how different everyone's ideas are, and their different methods of implementing it all. The first one looked so good with those particle effects, they added so much to the finish that it's insane, and the last one was amazing with the atmosphere!
Seeing Josh's game, remind me about Thai indie game namely "So many Me". You might want to check it out. You pick out friends, and friends will be following you along too. Ohh, and nice passing that shard from the back as weapon haha.
This is a cool idea; I would like to see this done on a larger scale.. it really makes you wanna stand out by doing something different. The snake game really stands out in comparison.
@David Lad Probably would've been a lot easier and more efficient to do it the intended way. Maybe he really wanted that weird perspective view and that's just the way he thought to do it because that's how he's done it before. Definitely was not the most efficient way to do it though lol.
@@Ubayla It's literally only because up until recently unity hasn't had great 2D support, it's 2D kit was terrible. So devs used the 3D version all the time. So whilst it was released at the time of this video, he hadn't familarised himself with the 2D version yet so it was pointless for him to stray from what he knew given the time frame.
This series is incredible! Your out of the box thinking is really inspiring. To make a horror game out of that art pack was just genius! I would also love to see more of Ryan Fleury and Philip Lindberg! Do you think it would be possible to have them back for future episodes?
First one is a definite winner, if not for last one that he used ready code to make that spider, i would've said it's even better as it's something different than just a regular platformer but it's a nice game either way, it just sucks that he didn't stick to "48hours" game idea.
First one was best looking, but last one with a bit smoother lighting and different sound effect for the fan. Damn, could expand on it and make a full game out.
I liked the first one fast-paced and awesome lighting effects. I couldn't imagine that someone could make something great out of such simple Kenney assets.
