when you guys say you made a game in 48 hours, do you mean for two days straight you worked on the game with no breaks or just in your freetime you made the game, but how do you add that up to a game created in 48 hours?
@@empresslithiaNot necessarily, I think they means all sprites/assets are placeholders. Every artist then has the possibility to make the game look the way they want, in the style they want.
You and Heartbeast are my favorite gamedev youtubers. Heartbeast is probably the person who got me into gamedev with his GameMaker tutorials. I'm so happy to see you two together in the same video.
So, what I’m hearing is... Girl Gangs having to successfully defeat barriers in a Tic Tactics Toe grid in order to go through portals and steal museum pieces by maneuvering in an active strategy format. Sick.
I actually love the idea of a "mash the game" challenge where some devs are given a few unfinished games and are prompted to make a new game using assets, code, and concepts from the other games.
This entire series got me into watching lots and lots of gamedev videos in the first place. Always love to see a new one popping up and seeing everyone make completely different games with the same art assets. I hope this series lives on forever
The girl gang one was insanely good for 48 hours. Just imagine if she worked for longer on something. I honestly think that game has potential to be amazingly good if you ran with it for a year or so. The concept is really cool.
I mean. It depends. There are 8000 versions of the character A lot of Batman fans will tell you that Batman does his best to use his wealth and social capital toward more effective, community-based crime deterrence solutions But at the end of the day Batman stories still exist in the superhero world, where 90% of crime is done by people who are either just greedy or literally insane. Unlike reality, where nearly all crime is done out of desperation. I would argue that mainline DC Batman isn’t fascist, for a variety of reasons- he’s not a palingenetic ultranationalist, and he doesn’t follow Umberto Eco’s 14 elements of fascism from what I can tell. Running through the list: 1. “Cult of Tradition”; Debatable, Wayne is definitely old money so you could argue this one 2. “Rejection of Modernism”: nope. He has a complicated relationship with freedom, but Wayne generally seems pretty pro-enlightenment. 3. “Cult of Action for Action’s Sake”; not really. I mean, the man hates guns and tries to deal with all his enemies nonlethally. In a twisted way, you could even argue his whole “I will take a terrifying persona to intimidate criminals” runs counter to this point; if he was all about action, he wouldn’t care about trying to scare people straight 4. “Disagreement is Treason”: again, a big nope here. In most versions of the character, he’s not so up his own ass that he thinks anyone who disagrees with him is trying to trick him. 5. “Fear of Difference”; Bruce may be a terrorist (by literal definition of the term), but he sure as hell isn’t a bigot. Another nope here 6. “Appeal to Social Frustration”: unsure, leaning nope. One of Batman’s biggest flaws is that he tries to take care of everything himself; he’d never, like, incite a riot 7. “Obsession with a plot”: kind of, but the plot always turns out to be real? In a world with supervillains this one is kinda hard to delineate 8. “The enemy is both strong and weak”: Yeah, definitely. “These criminals are dangerous and can’t be left on the streets” & “I can handle all these lowlifes with one arm behind my back” 9. “Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy”: nope 10: “contempt for the weak”: nope 11: “Everyone is educated to become a hero”. Definite yes; even if he doesn’t necessarily intend it, Batman inspires imitators 12. Machismo and Weaponry: machismo, no in most versions, weaponry, definitely 13. “Selective populism”. Actually, yeah, this one kind of works. Wayne talks as though he represents Gotham when he really only represents its upper class 14. “Newspeak”. Again, that’s a nope So, yeah, most of those don’t apply to most versions of the character, so I don’t think he’s a fascist. A hypercapitalist, terrorist, and possible authoritarian though? Definitely. I guess all that was just a very long winded way of saying: in most versions he’s not fascist. Just you’re regular, boring, shitty neoliberal who feigns naïveté at how they benefit from the system
such a cool vid displaying these games, very cool to hear the creators thoughts too. "I put on my thinking hat and programing socks", very nice image pairing to those lines haha
you should do a community game jam that is a week-long using the same art kit when you make thesevideos. It would be nice to see you play the top 10 of a community voted! great videos btw I want more of this series!!!!!
I just finished downloading and playing Lana Lux's "Destroyer" and I loved it. Short, but understandable since its for a Game Jam. I loved everything about it. I loved the concept of the story. I loved the BGM. I loved the aestheitics, the way the town looked with all this tiny details added in... that robot did have a point, btw.
Loved all of these games, you all did such amazing jobs! The second game's aesthetic and narrative was super cool, I loved the gameplay mechanics in all 4 games too!
This was so fun to watch. I'm going to check the other devs out. This was a cool sampler of what their style is like :) Btw, the game where you teach a ghost joy sounds like a great idea
Hearbeast's felt very strategic, clean, and simplistic. Lana's felt rough but had very cool narration and was more story driven that the others. It also felt really casual. Aidan's felt like that one flash game you would play as a child that everyone would speedrun to get the most money in the lowest time. Your's was the most interesting, unique, and gameplay heavy.
lol, it amuses me that a bare dusting of snow causes Texans so much headache. That "bad snow" looked like the first hour in Nebraska, and I know it's even worse up north XD
I’ve been waiting for the next episode of this series! It’s always amazing to see the wide variety of things that can be created from the same art pack!
This was such a cool video! I really like these kinds of mini development jams. Please do more like this with other creators! I've subscribed to everyone in this video
Great video all the games were pretty good and looked like a lot of fun. But Boy do all the Dev's need to work on their audio setup. I mean on a cellphone it might sound ok. But on a computer with speakers or on headphones. The Audio was bad for each of them. And made it hard to listen to with all the echoes and reverb in the background sounded washed out. That's def something they all could work on. Keep up the good work great video by the way.
Yeah I actually did mean to re-record my audio portions, my dog was screwing around in the background during my recordings and my keyboard is SUPER loud. I'm looking to improve my setup shortly though!
@10:55 my man is dangerous because he owns the worlds loudest mechanical keyboard... able to shatter eardrums n rip the white meat asunder with a single keystroke

You should do the opposite where you give 4 artists a game where all the sprites are squares/cubes and the have to make the art for the game.
🤔
That's just "Make a game with voxel art".
@@empresslithiaNot necessarily, I think they means all sprites/assets are placeholders. Every artist then has the possibility to make the game look the way they want, in the style they want.
yoooo 🤯
Have to admit. This sounds like a really good and interesting idea.
Ahahahha Aidan's programming socks joke was so unexpected I love it
That joke was actually the first thing I edited ahaha

Hearing Heartbeast's passive, happy "tutorial" voice act out the role of a future girl gang leader is exactly what I needed today. ❤️
damn this went from tic tactics toe to girl gangs that are going through parallel universes

Never heard of Lana, definitely checking out her stuff after this. The speed of creation and the shading were incredible for a jam game!
Imagine all these games mashed together. Girl gang phase timed tic tax toe art theft would be badass
please elaborate
I actually love the idea of a "mash the game" challenge where some devs are given a few unfinished games and are prompted to make a new game using assets, code, and concepts from the other games.
