Got to adapt to the new age , electronics are getting better everyday, and if your planing to chase the tournament side of things, you better have livescope because everyone else will , and it’s available to everyone to buy. So that’s fair to me. Great video Sir!
Yes sir I understand that. I don't plan on jumping in any tournaments anytime soon 😂. But I do understand your point 100%. If I was going to fish tournaments I would definitely set my boat up with a live scope and spot lock trolling motor, no doubt. If tournaments are the path you're going to fish you definitely need a live scope to compete. But it does not hurt to have some old school techniques to take to the lake with you. You just never know the situation. You may have a power situation where you lose your scope during the tournament. Then you would have to go back to the old ways to finish the day. The main thing I was trying to say was you don't have to have that if you're catching fish for fun or for yourself to eat. The way they talk now you can't catch fish without it. I just try to help people catch fish the best way I can on the budget that they have. Hopefully some of my tips may help them catch more fish to release or to take home. I appreciate you watching thank you 😊
As for fish finders, in 1970 i took a trip to Quebec with 2 friends, both of whom had been there before. The lakes were very large, with stained light coffee colored water which made it difficult to know how deep it was. We spent considerable time recovering our trolled 0:06 lures that were only running about five feet below the surface. The next trip the following year i had a Lowrance portable fish finder. It was a square green box that was battery powered with a flasher that rotated to indicate the water depth. It didnt show fish, but it did a good job of showing water depth, which was all i wanted it for. Anyway that was back in the day when outdoor magazines with ( expert ) writers were very popular. One of the magazines had a writer by name of Starnes, and he had a monthly column called Starnes At Large. He wrote an article on fish finders, which were back then all the same type as mine, flasher types. He predicted that within a very short period of time all the fish would be wiped out, because of unscrupulous fishermen using them. I do agree that the livescope types are a different situation altogether. I would think they should be restricted for use in tournament fishing at least. By the way, i still have the green box, but just for a display and it still works.
Awesome, That's a great story you shared with us. I use to watch ice fisherman all the time and they use flashers of some type. The one you have sounds pretty cool. I actually collect antique trolling motors. They're pretty cool and they all still work. It's cool to have some of the old school fishing gear. I guess we should be celebrating the fact that our technology has come as far as it has with these live scopes. The main thing is pricing is out of reach for many. It would probably have a lot better reputation if it was a little more affordable. Maybe one day it will be. I appreciate you sharing your story with us, thank you
Great video ; And you said it EXACTLY !!!! Using Livescope exclusively is NOT REAL fishing!!! The whole point is to use your knowledge of waters and species and apply them to locate and try to catch fish with skills you have learned.... SITTING THERE USINE A XBOX ISN'T FISHING !!! I know someone isn't going to like me saying that but to them I'll say, people that ACTUALLY REALLY KNOW HOW TO FISH can outfish Livescopers...again...great video 🙂
Yank!!!! All I can say is 😳. You are da man when it comes to catching them crappie! You keep catching and I’ll keep a watching! Here’s hoping you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Thank you Proud Papaw. I appreciate that. I'm going to stay after them. I hope you and yours also have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, 🌲 🎉
I agree with you on the cheat scope. Even if you fish the same lake, crappie move around a lot. They follow the bait fish. Nice slab’s Fish Yanker. I know I saw at least (2) 15 inch fish. Got to be right at 2lbs or over.
As usual nice breakdown Yank Im on the same page with you on the while livescope deal. I like that it breaks myths on what to use and how to use it but other than that takes the excitement away from using your mind and figuring a pattern out
Thank you. Yes Sir. I like to think things through. I actually know some people who struggle to fish with a one. One guy is great at catching crappie with Jig poles. He bought one a year ago and still struggles to use It. the guy who talked him into getting a live scope said he can't catch fish without it. But I have seen videos of people using it and doing a great job. I'm just going to keep using my simple sonar. 😂
@FishYanker depth, temp and bait are the main things you'll need to know anyhow. The figuring out presentation is the fun and catching the fish is the bonus. Just my opinion. Next time you're out and catch a crappie, hook it behind the dorsal under a float then release him. He should go back to his buddy's. Poor man's livescope 😁🎣. I'll be on the lookout for that video. Until then tightlines Beetlejuice 🫱🏽🫲🏾✌🏽
@FishYanker Hey man I hope it makes fishing just a little easier for ya and you'll be able to pass it on to the good ones if you know what I'm saying 😁
Thank you. There was actually a boat with 3 Duck Hunters scouting but I did not show it in the Video. If I didn't have to go to my day job I would fish all week 😆😂
Cool I appreciate you watching. All these areas I fish are over here are connected to the Cache River. If the Cache river ever touches it there's crappie in there.
Yes sir thank you. I buy the decals on Amazon fish ruler stick on. Get me a piece of 2 in PVC pipe. It is screwed to the top edge of the boat from the outside of the boat. I also use it for wiring I have a switch underneath that turns on my back motors on and off
That's a good question. If the fish are biting really slow I may spread some out on both sides of the boat. But if you are fishing from one side of the boat you can just hang a couple poles on the other side and have pretty good success catching extra crappie.
@@FishYanker yea I was out yesterday, just scanning different spots, to many spots actually, didn’t fish a whole lot, sometimes you get caught up in just sorta looking at different sloughs and whatnot
@clayton203 Yes Sir. I spent a lot of days doing exactly that. You got To search these places so you can know what's going on. Where the water comes in and out, where the bait will go during inflow and outflow of current. The Crappie are definitely follow the bait.
Yank, I'm an old timer not good with electronics. But i can catch my share of fish. as far as watching fishing videos if i see its with livescope i pass on it . I'm not looking at some ones back, its not for me.
Where at in Arkansas do you live I’ve lived here in Arkansas all my life. Been looking for some more fishing buddies been wanting to do some crappie fishing as well. Buddy of mine told me I should get livescope on my boat and I told him I would if he paid for it😂 I’m fine with down imaging and side imaging
@ your about 2.5hrs from me I live in van buren close to the Oklahoma Arkansas border. Me and my wife and our boys camp at piney bay during the summer. I don’t mind traveling either. I’ve got a cousin that lives in Clinton a couple miles from greers ferry
@@FishYanker my cousin has been wanting us to come up and camp with them at greers but haven’t found a time where both of our work schedules work out to go do so. 😲 yes Sir l know I know what you're talking about. I have had bearings and hub problems also. It is a pain especially if you have plans and your all ready to go. It's a pretty good chore just keeping everything good and ready on your boat and trailer. Not to mention if you forget some piece of gear that you need and you get to the spot you are fishing and then realize you forgot it. 😂 I started a checklist and I double check it, helps me out a lot.
Thing that gets me is "livescope" is the new "kleenex". Those advertisements are convincing new anglers they can't fish without a $2K scope. It's all fun and games until you cut off the next generation of fishing. Man, I need to become a snow bird and spend some winter time down south crappie fishing.

Yes Cache River has lots of snags and debris so you want to take it easy.
How deep are the lakes
Most of them are fairly shallow but some are deeper it will depend on how high the river is. They are all fed by the cache River.
