Hypsipyle was the granddaughter of Dionysus and Ariadne. All males were slain except Thoas, Hypsipyle's father, whom she saved and cast adrift in the sea. This Lemnian crime, of slaying their husbands, was often told and retold by the Greek and Roman poets.
Visiting Lenos shows the typical cavalier attitude of Jason towards a legendary danger. He constantly places himself and crew in danger, yet emerges as the hero. He takes the path of the unknown to achieve his victories.
Yes. There is much to be said about the feminine/masculine dynamics in the Argonautica, and later in this 4-part series we explore the topic further, through Jason and Medea. If you have a chance yo watch it, we'd appreciate hearing your opinion in the comments of these episodes (3 and 4 of tinyurl.com/38nte6rp)
Again - beautiful! Is there anything more powerful than ancient Greek myths? They are fascinating as there are layers of meaning behind every story. And while the story itself is always breathtaking and has in itself everything that's needed to create engaging tale - it is also constructed like a russian doll. You can stay satisfied with the marvels of the plot, but you can also go deeper and deeper :)
Yes, which is exactly why they are best left alone after a first approach at analysis. I don't think that trying to peal these layers with words will penetrate the total depths of them.
Can’t wait for this! 🙌🏽
