The end so beautifull and hopefull !
I think Gary honored Matthew this way - he could have chosen from plenty of his own songs, but chose this one by Matt. The song is very plain and simple, and it's incredible, how much it owes to Barrie J. Wilson's drumming here. B.J. was probably the most illustrative drummer of rock music - perfect for the PROCOL HARUM songs and music!
This is such a beautiful song, especially when sung by Gary Brooker.
Procol is as always beyond these mortal things.
Class
Apparently the recording of this song was very labor intensive and time consuming. It was the most worked on pieces on an album of incredible songs such as A SALTY DOG. The ending of PILGRIM'S PROGRESS as recorded in the studio always moves me. So simple and yet ...
Always loved this song .
With Love... Saudades. Procol Harum.... FOREVER
Sweet sorrow another masterpiece. Thank you.
Voce indimenticabile💖RIP Gary
la voix de GARY !!ok!
Uno dei capolavori HARUMIANI grande GARY BROOKER rip !!!!!!
Brooker sings Fisher, once again. Wonder if Matt ever got any royalties for this one.
BJ's drums here are perfection....
BJ Wilson crushes it again
One of Keith Reid’s best. Matt fisher composed this.
Matthew also sang it on the album. And produced it, too. Easily PH's finest album.
this is on broken barricades CD = Plenty of extra tracks, interesting
Jolly good. Wonder if Jack Ponissi has heard this version.
I believe this track would have been recorded just a few weeks before they made the live record with the Edmonton Orchestra
With all my respect to Gary. Matthew did a better job singing it, like all the tunes that he sang. They were not for Gary's voice.Salty Dog was very meticulously constructed and engineered by Matthew Fisher. It is a masterpiece and Fisher voice was perfect for Pilgrims Progress. Gary did sing it sometimes with Procol Harum and did not fit.Just my humble opinion.
Totally agreed ,all members were underrated ,but Matt thé most i do thinck ,hé hadn't thé shoulders to fight over thé rock business ,hé ought to get more récognition from thé scène ,hé finally got his due from " awsop" music .Glad for Matt & his wife Carole ...
Was Fisher gone by this time?
Matthew Fisher (who produced the "Salty Dog" album) departed Procol Harum not long after the album was released, so yes he was quite gone whenever Gary and remaining band recorded this take.
