Is final fantasy 9 worth playing in 2022? Short answer. Yes
So final fantasy 9 originally released in the year 2000 meaning I was 2 years old and believe it or not I wasn’t exactly much of a gamer yet.
But as is the case with most final fantasies which released between the mid 90s and early 2000’, as years went on the fanbases for these game grew stronger rather than fading into the dark.
Resulting in multiple re-releases of each one on different consoles, with slight upgrades and quality of life changes made along the way to things such as gameplay and sound systems
Final Fantasy 7 being arguably the coverboy when it comes to Final Fantasy even ended up getting a whole recreation/sequel of it’s story with the recent Final Fantasy 7 Remake soon to follow with Final Fantasy Rebirth.
It’s very fair to say from number 6 all the way to number 10 is what most would consider the best years of Final Fantasy games with huge support for each of the games individually.
But today we are focusing on Final Fantasy 9 which I always found to be one of the more fascinating entries.
For the longest time it seemed to be one of the most underrated games in the series,
for better or worse people would not shut up about 6,7, 8 and 10 but 9 was different.
Now this could very much be due to the time period that Final Fantasy 9 came out,
unlike FF7 which was the first ever PS1 Final Fantasy or Final Fantasy 10 which was the exact same but for PS2.
Final Fantasy 9 found itself at the very end of the PS1 era, releasing 4 months AFTER the PS2 was released in Japan and ultimately being stuck on that console, never reaching the PS2 market, the same market that adored Final Fantasy 10.
So whilst it is FAR from the best selling entry, finding itself below others like Final Fantasy 12 and even Final Fantasy X-2, for those that did play the game and had an actual real opinion about it, it was pretty much the same thing coming from everyone's mouths.
Final Fantasy 9 is one of the best in the entire franchise.

If you enjoyed the video a Like or Comment would be much appreciated!
i’d love to see you do a video on final fantasy 10! it’s my favorite ff game as of rn :)
@@selinmirjahan Favourite mainline entry for me as well, so potentially?👀
@@reliableprezi'll be waiting patiently ^^
Final fantasy xii. I am replaying it and actually going to finish it for the first time. I appreciate it way more than I used to. Such a great game. I am brand new to your channel though.
Hawtest final fantasy grrls
The evolution of the Graphics from FF7 to IX is crazy considering both are on PS1
ikr
FFVIII was most realistic of the PS1 era as IX was intended as more of an homage to the classic Final Fantasy experience, (something of a love letter to all that came before) as opposed to where VII and VIII were trying to push the going for more modern and realistic visuals
Though this is probably less evident on the “upscaled” re-released versions available today
And yet to this day, VII was and still is the better game by a huge margin. Character models be damned, IX's story was just kind of meh in comparison and Kuja was just a weaker version of Sephiroth.
@@NeutralGloomBot subjective, I enjoyed FFIX more than ff7.
Having a blast with ff7 Remake though
@@Arthzul Nope I refuse the "muh opinion" stance. The fact is VII changed how people perceived RPGs in the west and kicked off a golden era of games that started away from the typical medieval fantasy narrative. Not to say others haven't done the same before FFVII, but VII was the first one that mattered. Also, without the success of VII, IX doesn't exist and IX copied a lot from its predecessor which is why the bast majority of people put VII above IX. This review is dead on. IX is a solid B+ of a game but it's not an epic like VI, VII, and X because all three of those games broke molds and changed the industry for the better.
Uematsu even says FF9 is his best work. He wrote over 100 tracks for the game. The music is a masterpiece!
Hmmmm FF9 Music isn't as memorable as 7 or 8
@@dugebuwemboFF8’s music is annoying to me. 9 is a masterpiece from start to finish. 7 has some of the best tracks, but the soundtrack gets a bit stale in the latter half of the game.
@@goodmanwiseman303 I don't remember any of FF9s tracks, FF8 had some iconic music especially that understated track in Balamb Garden at the beginning. FF8 starts quietly, will always remember my experience with it
@dugebuwembo I know that out of the 3 PS1 FF games, 7, 8, & 9. 9 is my favorite, the great news about all 3 is they are all great. And if your jumping into any of them, you are nearly guaranteed an exemplary experience.
In my opinion you missed the mark on saying it doesn't have anything that stands above the others. I think it has more heart than all of them. The character development is superb and it makes you root for the cast and cherish their interactions and revelations
Exactly - the character development is what stands it apart from the others
A resounding yes I've played this more times than I can count. It's definitely a comfort game you keep coming back to over the years.
So does the many other final fantasy. Missed his point by a long shot

FFX has the best characters and development I feel.
FF9 is my favorite out of the series. I can admit that nostalgia has something to do with it for me but I also replay this game every few years and I still enjoy it. The world and characters are what keep me coming back. I’m really looking forward to see what they do with the remake with modern graphics and maybe a similar battle system to FF7R
There is no FFIX remake. That's a fan rumor. A quick google searched confirmed that. Also, don't hold your breath for it because its not popular enough for that. VI might get a 2DHD remake, but IX is what is. I would argue after the remaster being done so well, there is no need for a remake. Would rather SE remake Xenogears or Chrono Trigger and spend their time on something other than FF for a change.
Hopefully the next remake is FF6 that would be amazing
@@scabu3 I just wish they would release FF6 on Switch or PS5
@@NeutralGloomBot Everything is a rumor until it's being announced. You can't fault people for having hopes for it when the NVIDIA list of leaked games have MOSTLY been announced. Only time will tell if your bold claims will hold true.
It doesn't need a remake, it's perfect as it is
My favourite game, not only in the FF series. I was lucky enough to play it around 2003 (can't remember properly). It made such an impression in me, that it was from then on my definition of fantasy. Everything is superb; characters, the greater-than-life story, the cities, its inhabitants, the monsters... and, last but not least, the MUSIC (of course). It's the game you want to play with your son when he gets patient enough to enter the RPG world.
ff9 is like the most cozy game in my memory. when i see images from it and hear music from it, i get this warm fuzzy feeling of wanting to chill a bit in its world again.
id say its the most rounded ff ever. i love it.
I played ff 7, 8, 9, and 10 over the past year and though all of them are great I would say 9 is chef’s kiss and my personal favorite.
You gotta play 6 and tactics as well. 2 of the best!
ff9 had the best story ever for me as a kid!
Between the Mogurimod to vastly boost visuals and the Alternate Fantasy mod to vastly boost the gameplay, FF9 is THE FF to play in modern times.
@LeoC It basically rebalances the whole game, from changing basically all skills to how most status effects work to which abilities are learned from weapons, it's a pretty big overhaul and it makes the game not your usual basic jrpg.
If you're somewhat competent with these games I'd go straight for the alternate fantasy since the normal game is just like all FF, which is pretty easy and straightforward. Considering how ff9 is focused on gathering equipment, the higher difficulty makes it so the player feels more rewarded since the equipment is valuable, while if the game is very easy it doesn't really matter since you would win regardless.
I played it several times and just love it, the sound , the atmosphere the characters. Just 👍🏼
I would recommend everyone to download the moguri mod. It really improves the background graphics. I turned off the extra music but the graphic overhaul was amazing.
Not only is this the best mainline game, Vivi is arguably the best FF character. The journey he goes through life is the deepest of the series. He is easily the most relatable character as he grows and his comradery with Steiner is gold.
What I love the most about Vivi and Steiners relationship, is that from the jump Steiner had mad respect and admiration for Vivi. Which is quite wholesome!
@vermillionaether I am doing my FIRST playthru despite owning this own disc for years! I just made it to the Evil Forest... "Master Vivi!" ❤🎉😂
Nah
@thesupremety just started replaying it tonight what a masterpiece 9 is my favorite have a 22 year old save file from high school on my memory card.
The answer is YES. 100%. This was one of the last games I played in the mainline series when I was going back through them after falling in love with VII. This is top 3 of all time for me, and the gap between it and most of the other games in the series is staggeringly huge.
9 is my favourite in the final fantasy series, I was 13/14 when it first came out and I when I first played it I fell in love. Deep story, great character development, nice side quests and side stories. It's game I go back to at least every year or two. It's number 5 in my top 5 games that I can keep going back to time and again and never get bored.
Zidane and Garnet relationship the best in a whole FF Series 😇
The way Zidane act, the way Garnet react Zidane's Act, always make me smile and remember all teenager always do 😅
The Development their relationship really heartwarming too 😇
I got Final Fantasy IX on my PS4 last year. I've known about it for years before that though and my verdict: it's a masterpiece! I knew it was underappreciated but until recently, it was a shame it wasn't more popular back then. I don't care what people say, FFIX has plenty of iconic moments, the ending in particular made me tear up! I loved it so much; I played through it 3 times. I'm overjoyed that IX has gotten such a resurgence in recent years so more people can know how good it is making its upcoming remake well earned!
To me, FF9 was a nostalgic distillation of the Final Fantasy series down to it's most basic elements.
For that reason I think it wasn't meant to stand out per se, but it does feel like eating your favorite home cooked childhood meal. It might not be the best thing you've ever eaten, but it has familiarity and heart to it that can only come with an honest sincerity
This was beautiful
You said it perfectly.
Tbh it was my first exposure to the series watching my friend play it back in 00s. I was awed with the graphics, characters and story. Fast forward 2022, I managed to finish it.
The relationship I have with FF9 and the feelings I get from it are unexplainable. I first played in 2000 when I was 7 years old because my dad was playing it. Of course I didn’t beat it lol. Since then I have gone through the first 2 discs at least 4 times and STILL HAVEN’T beaten the game. Different circumstances have kept me from completing it. Yet, it’s still one of my most favorite games, nostalgia accepted and included lol. Thank you for doing a video on it
I beat FFX because I loved watching my dad play it, and I love it. This too shall I one day beat.
P.S. it’s currently the theme of my PS4 Home Screen. #FF9Love
One day you will see them end credits
When you got time to play it. Make sure you play it when you are not in moment when you life is too happy.
The dark and depressed side of this game story is what makes this game special.
Good boy
I'm on the same boat. Have loved 6-10 all my childhood but I only finished 7 and 10. Am probably on my 4th try of 9 again.
Woah, woah, this boring chore or a game has multiple discs?! OMFG. So many man hours went into this and yet it still plays… like _this?_ Making a JRPG is wasted effort.
9 is forever my favorite in the series even with its quirks or downfalls…and this video made my day. Thanks so much for all the hard work you put into this
I loved IX back in the day. I played it on PS2 because I was one of the weirdos that never bought a PS1. Need to give this one another go on PC with some mods to polish it up.
It's 2023 and I'm about to dive back into this classic! I'm glad to see your review on it👌
I always liked the fact that it was a self-contained story - it didn't demand a sequel or prequel, and had a very satisfactory ending.
Great video! I want to introduce some friends to the game for them to give it a chance, and this is just perfect.
I know FFIX since I'm like 2-3 years old, my dad used to show me some promo videos of the game that came with a CD of a 3D course he bought at the time. As a toddler I was fascinated by the characters and the music, and I still am. Everyone should give it a chance ❤
I just started playing this game for the first time, so this is super timely for me! Love the content!!
Hope you enjoy!
Played this when i was 10? Played it after ff8 but i only finished when it was remastered. For first timers in FF series or JRPG in general, this is a good entry to Final Fantasy or JRPG. Loveable characters, great plot, not too complex battle system, really great music!
This is hands down my favorite game ever, it has been since I was 7 or 8. Every time I replay it I get so damn nostalgic but also find new things to appreciate
Great video.
I loved Final Fantasy IX at release. It was a great throwback to the classic era while feeling more modern. It doesn't seem to get talked about as much as 7 or 8, but i enjoy it more than 8 personally.
Zidane was such a great protagonist and i enjoyed his chemistry with Garnet.
But do you enjoy it more than 7?
@@dylanalexander4393 not as much but close
FF9 is the only one that can make me cry. Maybe FF10 as well, but yah the FF9 story is one of the best
@@jaretco6423 Everyone's different. I think that's what makes the FF franchise great because different people are touched by different subject matters/plot points
@@jaretco6423 FF9 still my favorite so you good
Haven't played it for 20 years! Definitely going to get back into it! Thx for the video
FFIX was always my favorite. I love the cast and the themes.
Man, the random battle transitions in glorious PAL 50 hertz make one truly grateful for the speed-up button in the remaster.
Just played it once more earlier this year and it was awesome as expected 😎👍
I personally think final fantasy 9 did 2 things better than almost any other in the series. It made the world feel lived in and sucked you in immediately. I think other games in the series including 7 at some points has places there just to be there if that makes sense. I never felt that way in 9. Every location felt important and was memorable from Dali looking like a innocent humble village. Lindeblum felt like a big thriving metropolis, Treno being like Venice built by people with endless wealth. Second the character building and development is as strong as any other game ( Garnet,Vivi and Steiner especially great), to me the core message in 9 is "do you really want to know the answers to your biggest questions and do you have the courage to accept and embrace the answer" which i think is as powerful and deep theme you can carry in a story. If you like good story telling this game will hold it own with any other in the series.
0:00 - 0:06 perfectly described ❤
For real tho FF9 is a magical masterpiece that just has a certain "soul" it's 101% worth it ... i claim FF8 to be my fave game of all time but ngl FF9 is probably the real one ... it just changed me like no other game 😫❤
~ also the timing of your upload is just perfect, since im playing it again right now on switch - and no matter how often i replay this game or how old i get, FF9 squeezes every possible emotion out of me ... 💕
How’s the switch load times👀
@@reliableprez pretty ok ~ only problems i have is that starting a battle without the double speed option reeeaaalllyy takes way to fcking long, idk why that is, but that's not ok for a port of a 20+ year old game, and theres sudden crashes ... like why ×______×
@@akiinmoonlight79 Yep had the same issues back when I played it that way
Great video mate! Been playing this game these past few weeks, loving it!
I religiously replaying this masterpiece every year
OMG after playing part 7 and 8 in my childhood, I'm playing this part right now for the first time and I LOVE IT!! It is such an amazing and lovely game, I really have to force myself to stop playing until late at night 🙊😊
I started it but didnt end up continuing since i wanted to play a more modern game. Story was nice so far tho. The princess just disappeared from her Uncle’s castle. I also love the map music. I also like being able to learn abilities from gear
Thank you!! This is so helpful
I got this game when it first came out, I started replaying it again last week. It's been a constant companion and even now I'm finding things I didn't before!
Thinking about playing it. Thanks for the video
Hello from 2023! New to turn based and JRPGs. Thanks for the video
After this square never got the characters on such a high level ever again. FF 10 still had some likeable characters, but from 9 it was a downfall which accelerated with every part released after 10
the video popped on recommendation, instantly said yes you should play. Then turned on the video and you just said it too!
FF9 is worth playing ANY time. Best FF out there imo.
It’s one of my favorite games. It wasn’t on my first play through at 18 in 2000. I liked VII and VIII much more at that point, and there were so many other games I wanted to play or play again. Then I played IX again in my 20’s, say 17 years ago, and I was just in love with it. It’s really a deep, existentially bleak, and harsh game. But it’s also super charming. It charms you. IX is a slow burning story unfolding like a novel, it’s superb. Many entries just force more and more dramatic nonsense in to the plot, and IX just has you hooked in because it’s so slick and polished and compelling. It’s top 10 for me all time. And I might be able to argue it to the top 3. It’s a gem. And at its time it was stellar game play.
And yeah it’s kind of slow.
Final Fantasy 9 hits me so hard... when vivi questioning about his existence... i felt emptiness... 😢
Commenting to support another youtuber and because I want to know more about FFIX since I have it on the backlog. Here through the frontpage, nice vid!
I love the 8 characters in Final Fantasy IX like Amarant Coral, Dagger, Eiko Carol, Freya Crescent, Quina Quen, Steiner, Vivi Ornitier and Zidane Tribal.
Adelbert Steiner, I think.
This was the Last FF I beat in 2019 and it was AWESOME, I am at the end of FF Tactics with supped up LVLS and have been for 3 years lol, stopped playing games after Corona Virus take over but I am slowly getting back into watching some play.
Recently replayed all the mainline games in the series (not xi & xiv) and my favourites have definitely changed over the years. 9 is now my absolute favourite, taken over 7, 8 & 10. My only complaint would be the battles are incredibly slow.
My recommendation would be to play the hacked version that speeds up the atb, that's all. Makes the combat so much enjoyable.
I played it on my hacked ps classic and felt right at home using the ps1 controller.
i haven’t played ff9 yet but i’m planning to so this is a good video to watch lol. i recently finished ff8 and your video helped a lot! keep up the good work :)
Appreciate that a lot!
Great review
Just beat it today for the first time. Absolutely loved it. What a journey…
I just beat it yesterday. I'm 22 years late on playing it, but it's a great game
I'm almost finished with my 2nd playthrough since the game debuted. Definitely worth playing still and my all time favorite FF.
Thanks for the video and review. One of my favorite FF games. Play it again every few years. Would love to get the game on Steam and get the mod to make the graphics better.
Great video!
Great vid! Subbed
So I'm 33 and final fantasy nine is my favorite game of all time. I replay it almost every year. This year I'm playing it on my phone. I got the game when it first came out and was the first RPG I ever beat all by myself and I truly love the game. If you want to play a classic RPG if you can find it I would recommend Legend of Legia. Or Shadow hearts one and two. All great games.
This game will be part of me for the rest of my life. I got a emotional connection to this game and I can't explain how much it means to me. ❤ I love it so much.
Who’s your favorite?
I played, loved and beat 9 when I was 14..2003-4...it's my favorite that I've played...the graphics hold it back by alot ..when you consider the art style of past titles
played it earlier this year on the switch. loved it. only played about 15 mins whrn it came out back in the day as my disc was damaged. still holds up in 2022. great game
Possibly my favourite FF from that time. I still have my PS2 and discs... Looking forward to revisiting that lovely world. A remake, or thorough remaster would be amazing though.
planning on getting into more classic RPGs. Great video!
Great review man, Just what I was looking for as the re-release version is currently on sale. There definitely seems to be enough here despite the many years to make it worth playing, its successor being one of my favorite games of all time. Keep up the good work!
Keep in mind Freya and Amarants story’s were cut due to time constraints.
I hope they tackle that in the remake, as well as * spoilers for ff7 remake* keep it as a real remake rather then a sequel like ff7 remake.
I personally love the ost, though they do remix a lot of the themes instead of straight up new ones.
Cool vid
Have my comment for the algorithm, absolutely love all your content. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Wow what a sick video. Subbed with notifications!
Played this for the first time back at the end of 2020 a couple months after completing ffvii and ffviir for the first times as well. At first I found the game charming but for the majority of the first disc, I was a lil miffed. Of course finding out what was going on in Dalí shocked me and got me hooked, but I felt like after that the game’s pace kinda slowed down. And then I got to Burmecia. From that moment onwards I was legitimately invested in everything going on in the game and I couldn’t put it down. Some personal stuff happened at the time of me playing this so this game now has a really special place in my heart, but outside of that this game is truly one of a kind and really is a culmination of everything that came before it.
New subscriber here but TOP notch video man! And I've been debating on playing Final Fantasy IX for awhile now because I love Vivi as a character but wasn't sure if I wanted to get into a game as long as an FF title.
I’m playing it now for the first time on a PS1 emulator, upscaled to 1080p on disc 3 right now… what a great game this is!
Randomly stumbled across this video (huge ff9 fan) and it took me till halfway through the video that you’re prez from TGL reacts! Loving the one piece reactions and now you’ve got another sub on this channel too!
Eyyyy😂😂 that’s what I’m talking about! Cant hide my recognisable voice huh
9 was my first FF title play-through and easily my favorite. Imo it has the best story, characters and the masterful skills of Nobuo Uematsu.
That isn’t to say there aren’t any flaws - there are many. But what makes this title so great is it’s ability to captivate an audience with its story and character arcs. It welcomes you into a world that is very much lived-in (in terms of the mist continent), and encapsulates you with the questions of life we all struggle with. Making this title the most relatable.
FF9 was my first entry into the franchise
and it was very good (in my eyes)
and characters serve as a mini story
in that mini stories will haunt or catch up with the player later on disk 2 or 3
thank you for this video, it is really entertaining
your joke is very funny it really cracks me up lol
Like and comment for the algorithm. Your videos are tops mate! 👍
Finished it a month ago, as it was probably my favorite FF game back then, right after 7, but I never managed to get to the end of it as a teen.
It certainly was rough around the edges, compared to some modern games, but I had a great time. The OST alone is worth it.
I loved FFVII for a lot of reasons, but this was the first game that just left my jaw on the floor (in part because I was late to console RPG's).
I used to dislike Quina but now she’s one of my faves. The humor in this game is great!
I really enjoyed the open world! It’s dark and grey because of the mist, when it opens up later it’s so lush and nice. And it has so many secrets hahah I totally understand people not liking it though.
LOL. The beginning… facts. It’s just great y’all… go play it!
That was for the people commenting "yes. saved you 20 minutes"
First off, I want to say great video, I gave it a thumbs up. I like how you looked at it critically and lose yourself in bias either negatively or positively. As a fan of FF9, it is my favorite Final Fantasy, it's always good to see someone giving it the attention it deserves. I honestly feel like it has some of the best characters in any Final Fantasy, all of the characters, save for maybe one or two, feel like they have an arc and develop in some way. I understand why people might not like Quina, even though I love them and think that they are a greatly misunderstood character, I believe Steiner deserves better. He's supposed to be annoying at first, but he grows throughout the story. Being with Zidane, who's a criminal with a good heart, shakes up his whole black and white perspective of the world, that and seeing his queen do some truly horrible things. While he's not my personal favorite, I think Steiner is one of the strongest characters from a character writing perspective. That being said, this was a great video and I hope you keep up the great work.
Appreciate the feedback and support!
Like a lot of people my age, FF7 was my gateway drug to FF. And for a while, 9 was my least favorite of the PS1 era, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate 9’s storytelling and how 9 encapsulates everything FF was up to that point.
i tried it before, but i am legit playing it now. the first time i thought it was goofy, but this time i went in with an open mind; im obsessed now
FF9 was amazing when I first played it 24 years ago, and it still is to this day. Can`t wait for the ai upscale fan made versions with re-drawn backgrounds, vagrant story looks so sick with it...
The thing I love most about FF9 is that it brought the fantasy elements back to the series. I love the steam punkish feel of 6 and the future tech of 7 but at its core the FF series is a fantasy series not sci-fi.
My ex got me into ff9 and I didn’t really get into those dope old school 3D rpgs and I’ll say this, I WAS hooked this was barely 3 years ago and I loved it. It was the characters and even the cut scenes that hade acting like a child in awe.
Also, Steiner become one of the most likable characters through the story. How he handles certain situations through the story shows he’s ones of the most human characters out of the cast. His values and beliefs get shattered and it made me love him
My friend worked on the Spanish translation for this game. I remember it was in the shop front in HMV at the time. I had a n64 not a PlayStation and was hyped for Dreamcast so I never got round to playing it. I am going to buy it to play it for the first time this year. I’m really interested in trying it as it’s the one mainline final fantasy apart from 10 that I missed. I only got into the series with 12 then 7 and 8. I enjoyed them apart from 8 which I just couldn’t get into for some reason
Magical game. FF9 or 7 depending on the day would be me faves. I've a lot of time for 9. It's beautiful.
moguri mod is what everyone needs with this game
Final Fantasy 9 and Breath of Fire 3 were the last games I played on the Playstation before shifting over to PC gaming. I don't play video games anymore but FF9 is one that I remember fondly. Especially the card game minigame. It was a fantastic game that oddly never took off.
Subbed!!
I downloaded it and played it on my PS4 earlier this year. I loved it.
Enjoyed the world and ambience. Nice npc:s
As a FF9 fan boy I agree with most of what you said. Not easy for someone who only played it twice to have such an accurate opinion about FF9.
I have made more than 100 hundred walkthroughs on this game since 2005, when I was 14 years old and I enjoyed it every single time.
This game helped me so much it's undescribable.
FF9 is like you said the most consistent game in the whole franchise although I agree it's not the best story(FFX is imo), I would still give it an A.
Edit: Speaking of soundtrack - You're not alone - is one of the best in the series and doesn't get enough credit as it should. :P
Edit2: Even if it's not a hard game to play, this game has two of the most difficult challenges I came across in the many games I've played . Rope Jump mini game and Obtaining excalibur 2 . the difficulty on these challenges are mindblowing.
I love to see other people commenting/playing this game so thank you very much for the video :)
cheers
I love this thanks I am a newbie. I even subscribed 😊
FF9 was my very 1st game I really enjoyed ☺ I remember crying at when zidane was left at the big tree scene, I even have this game at my phone to this day, still playing it ☺ I hope they will make a remake at it and I hope it is good ☺
Great job!
Appreciate it!
I started playing FF9 about 6 months ago and this became one of my favorite games of all time!
Final Fantasy IX is worth playing until the end of time! It's my all time favourite game and it blew my 7 year old mind when I played it back in 2000. Growing up and understanding it all more, I really love how the game deals with people's identity and how they struggle to figure out who they are.
Zidane, like you said, starts to feel all these new emotions that go against what he has felt before. That and in the late game when he discovers that he is a genome and has to prove to himself that he's not a mindless copy. Vivi is exactly the same in that regard. They find the Black Mages in Dali and he begins to think that maybe he's not unique, but he also thinks that he might belong to something. Steiner is one of my favourite transformations. He butts heads with almost everyone, just trying to serve his Queen and kingdom and protect the princess. It's only when they start to uncover the truth of the Queen's plans that he starts to question his loyalty as it goes against his purpose of protecting the princess, but he also doesn't want to betray his kingdom.
Character development in this game is incredible! I need to play it for the 8495736th time!
