When I first heard this band, it was his voice that turned me off. I was surprised this band was considered an influence on thrash metal. They sound more like a poor man's Led Zeppelin.

7 years too late, but here's an interesting connection.
In 1980, BOC had a song called 'Black Blade' on their album Cultösaurus Erectus. The lyrics tell of a black sword that drinks the souls of its enemies, wielded by Elric of Melnibone. The lyrics of this Diamond Head song is about Elric of Melnibone's life

    • @roveroverdover11

Ryan Thompson Guitarist Oh, wow, I’ve still got Cultosaurus on vinyl. I thought Black Blade was a song about something of that sort, but had never researched it. Thanks for the info, Bro!

@@roveroverdover11 Veteran of the Psychic Wars is another Elric themed song, and The Great Sun Jester is a reference to Moorcock's other work, he co-wrote both of them. He also did the same thing with Hawkwind on their Warrior on the Edge of Time album.

Sean Harris may have been the most powerful frontman in British Metal history and the whole band were great musicians! Amazing solo from Brian. Been a Diamond Head follower for over half my life and I still marvel at those first two albums. Canterbury is good too, but very different. Unfortunately a million years ago Sean said they were gonna be the biggest band in England right before the first split and I've always found that sad. Still, a large loyal worldwide following to this day.

I'm so tired of hearing these comparisons to Zeppelin. They sound nothing like Zeppelin! Maybe short passages of some songs. But I think why people say this is the way Sean Harris sings sometimes, and especially the way he moves his hands and body. The same goes for Brian Tatler, the way he holds his guitar, the way he moves his hands. I'd say they're great fans of Zeppelin, for sure.
But they are a fabulous band with great songs which definitely defined British Heavy metal of the eighties.
