GM Hikaru truly is an ambassador for the game. I love him supporting other channels like Coffee Chess as it helps others discover more great outlets to learn the game.
Don’t get it twisted. He benefits as well from expanding his content with other channels which I’m not hating on at all. Far from an ambassador though.
Alan kept getting equality! Quite a feat. Very good instructions on knights here. Thanks to Hikaru, once again. Brian, thanks for making it possible to see this long awaited game.
Just wanna say that there is a Filipino who's watching coffee chess (me). I got excited when Hikaru got to play with you guys. After few weeks, he got to visit and play more often. I got more interested when there is a Filipino whose playing with you guys. I remember the first video Carlini and Alan playing chess inside the cafe, and now Alan had a chance to play with Hikaru. Lots of love and support from the Philippines. Looking forward to the upcoming coffee chess members (and their will-be unique nickname).
Include me too or else " how could you do that to yourself?" was the famous line I took up from Allan. I couldn't analyze the game, because I was consumed by that line, very hilarious!!!
Don't forget that Hikaru has only a minute...and most of his moves are less than a second..Hikaru is sensational even against GM's...no disgrace Alan...
Alan REALLY trying to push out one of my faves out for a top 5 spot in coffee chess lol😂 Great game and thanks to Hikaru for coming back, bro legit is great for chess
2 of the things i learned as a kid in Philippines: 1) almost every old school Filipino knows how to play chess. 2) we love to talk trash about anything and anyone lol
At 7:39, isn't it a free pawn on e5 after hikaru plays the move Rb5, just takes with pawn and it'll check the king forcing him to either take back the pawn and lose the knight or go somewhere else and white can later promote the pawn
I think that the position around 6:43 was in whites favor. looking at it the knight movements are denied mostly, also the black has pawn isolated (2 pairs) on the right side while white has 4 together. I think the advantage would have been taken by moving f4 immediatly that way black has to respond to initiative and wont have time to play good his attacking moves. it doesnt matter if white rook takes the pawn at all is even better for white, but lets say that is exf4, then we do e5 attaking with tempo getting the knight out of there and later white can take the pawn back if needed be. with this we weaken black pawn structure and use whites well connected pawns to keep the advantage. also the pawn on c4 is mostly untouchable until the king moves as the bishop can attack the 2 of them. I think this can be a better position for white to follow.
Hope everyone sees how good a game this was, Alan had draw opportunities for sure! Someone advise. @7:56, was R.a5 not an option with enough time to catch the past pawn? Also thought following the 'what's your most inefficient peice rule' B.f1 was a good move for Alan a couple different times, covers pawn and Knight movement. Thoughts?
After Ra5 knight to B2 is basically game over. Bc then you can’t cover Ra1; if you go Ra2 to threaten the knight the pawn is too fast. If you go Bishop to f3 black goes rook to b3 sack. Black wins regardless at that point.
7:55 Could someone please explain why Alan didn’t go back to take the A5 Pawn with his A2 Rook? I see Hikaru could’ve put him in Check with his B6 Rook, but couldn’t Alan have defended against it? I’m just getting into learning Chess, any feedback would be awesome!
Do people realize what an amazing time we live in chess-wise? You think back in the days of Soviet domination we would see a player of Hikaru’s skill playing coffee chess?
2:20 Can someone tell a noob EVERYTHING they know about that pawn move? I see it in games i play against much better players. Black pawn to A6. Sometimes its the other rook pawn. Just one square up. It prevents the knight from coming in, but is there an ideal time to play that little preventative? Are there other reasons for it? further ideas? I'm seeing it in all my games against good players.
at 7:51 most ppl would make the mistake Alan made. and it's a tough position. or do u take the knight w the rook or put the king in check (f4 to e5)? I personally would have gone g2 to f3 w the bishop, and threaten the advancing pawn that way
This was a good game, I had to stop the video because I saw the pawn check sequence. A first in live chess for me! Alan's counter attack was brilliant, definitely missed that. I really enjoy these grandmaster skewed games. Thanks!
0:13 The international, intergenerational, intergalactic edition of bro code dictates that you nod down with strangers, nod up with friends. However, section 37, paragraph 78 dictates chess players who have studied more than 10 games of the opponent and encounters each other in a friendly tourney nods up. Regardless of skill disparity.

10:18 the way I see it from this position as white, your best bet wouldve been a5 takes a7 if hikaru decides to push the pawn bring g2 bish to f3 and defend the pawn push. Am I missing something? Genuine question. Regardless, its still a tough ass match for alan but that seemed like his best bet to me. Even if hikaru started pushing the G and H files as a response, he checks with f4 takes e5 then pushes his own pawns to match. Maybe im missing some hidden knight tomfoolery that could go down but im just not seeing it if its there. No hate on alan either he's a phenomenal player, much better than me but I just wanna know if im missing something here.

Hikaru is literally the worse ambassador for chess ever lol. A giant man baby
True, I started playing chess because of Hikaru.
Yeah his support of the chessbrah channel was huge too
Yeah, also its good content for Hikaru, the coffe chess guys compensate what they may lack in chess skills with personality!

I very much like Alan's style in this game. That counter attack to get GM Hikaru's rook was elegant.
