You want to use “super sport tan rubber” and cut it to the length you need. I use a lubricant made for O ring seals in food processing equipment (Armor All ,olive oil also works) this allows you to make more turns in the rubber band before it breaks. And lastly I use a Winder to crank in the turns, 1 to 15 ratio. It is kind of like a fishing rod reel. Sorry long winded, just wanted to make sure you knew what it takes to make this happen 😉
@@Gordon-Scott i made one with straws and a winder i made from a paper clip, hot glued to the prop, i used regular rubber bands though so you get a quick flurry for a second then its done....thanks for the tip
Those “Penny planes” are beautiful in flight! That material it’s so difficult to work with. I have tried to build a couple to fly in my house was not a great success. When your plane is 2 1/2 g and it is way too heavy you think to yourself… Self, are you in over your head? 🤔😁 I have gotten a few things to fly in my living room. A tiny little ornithopter I made and a micro plane that’s a handful in a little space 😳
@@Gordon-Scott That's so cool, and yeah 2+ grams and heavy! 🤯 Lol! Definitely an art to building and flying those. I bet those house planes are awesome! 👍
@@mikesrcgarage thanks Mike, they are a lot harder to build and get in the air then people would imagine. I love all things RC and free flight. I’ve been doing the RC truck thing lately, so much fun making videos with them 😁
@@Gordon-Scott No doubt about that Gordon. I too love all things RC been into it for years, its a great hobby! I built a couple free flight hand launch gliders but basically balsa toys but still were fun to toss around and eventually try to motorize to see if I could make them fly away! Lol! Fun stuff! ✌️😉
I love all types of flight and you are right, these are so majestic. 😌 it’s a really demanding aspect of the hobby believe it or not, a lot more difficult than RC. That’s why I don’t do much of it. 😂
@@bugsy742 absolutely not! There is such a sense of satisfaction when things actually fly 😊👍 Go for it and get a kit, build it, and then revel in your accomplishment 😊🙏 I would love to see you give it a shot, make my videos worth sharing
Great job with rubber band models Gordon. 👍 Unfortunately I don't have any indoor place to fly my ones. So sooner or later I had to jump in RC controlled ones for outdoor flying . It is much harder and more expensive than rubber band powered and takes more time to se results (sometimes frustrating) but I don't have much choice.
Hi John, good to hear from you hope you are doing well. I am lucky that my wife works at a school so I have nighttime access to the gymnasium. I have wanted to build a hanger rat for years, finally got it done😀 there is something very satisfying about rubber band power. I have a “carbon sail” ornithopter on the way, 1.3m wing span. I will post videos once I get it all sorted👍
Hi Riaz, I have not flown it outdoors myself but I have seen videos of others flying the hanger rat outdoors. But because it is so light even the heater fans in the gymnasium were affecting it. I can see it flying away forever if there are any thermals involved 😁
@@Gordon-Scott I am only able to fly outdoors. I wait for calm winds and I have lost two to thermals. These things are a real pleasurer to build and fly.
How did you get the rubberbands to stay going for so long?

Truly elegant flights and an appropriate choice of music, most enjoyable, well done. 😊
Thank you very much 😊
That was awesome! Reminded me of the planes that use a membrane skin like a bubble for wing and prop surfaces. Nice flights!

..Amazing flight!!! 👌🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Very nice build! Perfect landing! runs on a 0s Lipo 😆
nice takeoff nice stasying in the air and nice landing
Love this G🤙🏼
Thanks Chris☺️ there is a real satisfaction in building something with your own two hands and seeing work 😀🙏
where i can get that kind of rubber bands? to me in impossible to find on my country? can you help me please.
What country do you live in my friend?
Loved it!!
Good airplane bro !!
The original designer of this plane did a great job! It is an easy build and a great plane to get started with rubber motor 😉👍
Great flights! What did you use to seal the tissue paper?
Thank you. I use 3M spray adhesive from a distance so it is just a fine mist on the balsa.
Mate that is absolutely bloody amazing incredible! Very majestic indeed 😃🤝🤘✊

Great flying! Question: would the rat perform well outdoors in a mildly breezy setting?
