    Amazing video. I came across a Nikon FG that belonged to a relative of mine. After changing the batteries and seeing that the meter worked I took it outside but the LEDs' light was so dim that I couldn't know which settings to use. Do you have any insights about it? Thanks for the videos!

    How do you replace or take out a focus screen on a nikon FG or fg20 ?

    Hello! My FG started to squeak when I release the shutter. From previous experience with similar SLRs e.g., Canon A1, AE1, it might be cause by a need of oiling. I tried to apply some oil with a syringe, similarly to with is done for canons but it doesn't seem to work... :( Are you able to help? I love this Camera!

    I would love to know if you have ever encountered a Sears KS 500? Im very lost in trying to fix something's on it... But dont want to overstep my curiosity. Thank you for your detailed videos!

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  6 років тому

      The Sears KS 500 was made by Ricoh. Is it jammed? The wind interlock lever (prevents skipping frames by double winding before shutter release) might be out of position and blocking the wind lever from advance. Remove the bottom cover to access the lever. It is located on the wind lever side along the front edge of the camera body.

    • @Kaleidogirl20
      @Kaleidogirl20 6 років тому

      Well, when I notice that the shutter after one shot locks and then after like 48 hrs unlocks by itself (may be possessed) but it always happens when i put the self timer too. and the mirror stays locked in the upward position and never comes down.

    • @Kaleidogirl20
      @Kaleidogirl20 6 років тому

      So, yes it is jammed. After its set for a picture it doesnt want to shoot and its just stuck...

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  6 років тому

      Because is will eventual release after setting for awhile, it is a possibility that the metal blades of the Copal shutter are sticking due to a migration of oil on to the blades. See if there is a shiny residue on the blades. If the closing curtain blades have not completed their cycle due to such a condition of oil, try gently nudging the blades to complete the cycle. If oil is present clean with an alcohol saturated cleaning swab. If successful, wind the camera and then also clean the opening curtain shutter blade set.

    How about a video on how to remove and clean the lenses on a Lubitel 166, and also it has a stuck self timer mechanism.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  8 років тому

      +Joe Francis The LOMO Lubitel cameras have fairly simple shutters. You might watch the Fix Old Camera videos on the Compur and Copal shutters for some insight. The escape of the self timer probably needs to be cleaned and lightly lubricated.

    My Nikon FG camera seems to be different than the one in this video. For one, my forward winding lever does not have a set screw. Also when I removed the winding lever the shutter release button does not pop as it so easily does in the video. I cannot figure out how to remove the shutter release button. I want to use the shutter release button on this FG camera (which I purchased for parts only) and want to use in a functional camera (FG) which is missing the release button. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  6 років тому

      That is odd, but obviously possible... if it is not there it is not there, or it might be that the set screw in the advance lever is missing and the hole is hidden under a layer of impacted dust. Anyway... if the outer shutter button does not slip from the inner cable release shaft (which will have a c-ring retainer on the back end) than the outer shutter button has a retainer that is accessible by removing the shutter button/ shutter speed dial plate assembly.

    Hi, after removing and putting back again the top cover i accidentally moved the potentiometers that are behind the nikon logo. Now the light meter is off and i can't get it to meter right again, i've tried searching for information about it but i couldn't find any. Do you know how to set it to meter correctly again?
    Thanks

      oops... your are going to need a calibrated light source. Looking at the front of the the prism... from left to right.
      ( VR-8, VR-4, VR-5, small gap, VR-10, VR9 ). Top cover on. Counter set to one. Standard lens installed.
      1. Set mode to A, ASA to 100, aperture 5.6, LV-12, adjust VR-8 for zero exposure error or 1/125 shutter speed.
      2.Leave above settings, adjust VR-9 so the display indicates 1/2/125.
      3.Set P mode, adjust VR-4 so warning LED stop flashing as the aperture is moved from F-8 to F-11.
      4.Still in P Mode and ASA 100 and LV-12 move to minimum aperture release shutter with self timer and hold the timer lever - note the diaphragm opening by rotating the aperture ring until the diaphragm just starts to open, read the f-number. Adjust VR-5 for an aperture of 5.6
      5.VR-10 adjust for zero exposure error with Nikon flash (SB-15). Make several exposures using a 25-32% gray card.

    Hello. Tell me please, from which camera the lever for Nikon FG can come?

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  4 роки тому +1

      The FG lever might be exclusive to the FG... not sure though. No perfect substitutes come to mind.

    Hello everyone. Maybe someone can help me?
    My nikon FG shutter mirror is getting stuck up. Replaced the foam (not sticky foam).
    When i press the shutter buttom in any speed from 1 to 1000 the mirror goes up and stays up. I have to rotate the shutter speed dial to M90 or B to release the mirror. My batteries are good and the light in the viewfinder moves when I move the shutter speed dial. Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому

      It releases on M90 and bulb because it is mechanically sound. But no good news beyond that. For the issue you describe the first source of concern would be the shutter release magnet. If it is not holding it may have a defective coil, it may be dirty, it may have high resistance connection or a mechanical problem. It may not be getting power because of a flex connection issue or a defective HIC circuit. Less likely, but also a possibility would be a open or shorted mirror switch or trigger switch. All require some significant disassembly and troubleshooting.

      awww. I have 2 bodies doing that. I guess they are for parts then. Thank you very much again for all the help.

    It only goes back to 16.

    • @FixOldCameras

      It is possible that the counter dial return spring is no longer functioning as it should or there is some added resistance to the counter dial itself that needs to be investigated.

      Fix Old Cameras honestly what I want it to know whwre to conect the light meter which cable goes where that's it :)

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому +1

      The Nikon FM does not have a meter wire. Upon removing the top cover there is a green wire from the flash sync to the contact of the hot shoe. There are a red and white wires coming from the CDS cell unit that are soldered to the Main Board. A red wire to a diode contact, and a white wire to the ground contact. Finally there is a pink wire that connects a lone flex contact across the top of the prism to the corner contact on the Main Board.

    my fg's lever , shutter speed and iso is stuck

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому

      Did some sugary liquid get spilled on the camera in the past? It is possible the remaining sugary goo that is left after the moisture evaporated has 'glued' the shutter speed and ISO knobs tight. Isopropyl alcohol applied in subsequent steps will dissolve such an occurrence. The advance lever could be stuck for the same reason or for a mechanical advance failure or a mechanical or electronic shutter failure.

    *makes a diy spanner wrench for first width*
    *watches the next step and sees that theres a different width used*
    *dies*

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  5 років тому

      A comment without punctuation to break the flow of words has the prospect of being misread. But with that said... an attempt will be made to respond with a trifle of humor and acuity. Is it possible that a second properly sized DIY spanner might prevent a classic from being tossed into the boneyard of discarded and forgotten cameras.
