I always add vanilla to the liquid when making cake batters to ensure it incorporates well. The scent of vanilla is absolutely intoxicating, knew an older lady that would measure out vanilla extract then rub the spoon down the length of her arm so that none of it went to waste and she could smell it all day. Made a chocolate angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream icing, and I spread melted chocolate on parchment, then used a toothpick to draw out the letters MTFMC (middle Tennessee future ministers camp) to place on one side of cake and the year 2010 to place on the other. This was for their graduation ceremony and everybody was just oohing and ahhing over how pretty it was. Needless to say I was surprised when it appeared that nobody had tried it, because I knew it was good. Turned it around to discover that they had sliced away the back half with the date and turned the cake back around to keep the letters in tact because they thought it was just too pretty to cut. Did the same for a plain angel food cake and cut strawberry letters to spell out a Bible verse around the cake, but as soon as one person finally cut into it it was practically gone, but nobody else wanted to touch it until then. Don't always eat sweets myself but enjoy making them for others to enjoy, so after these two incidents I'd go to the dessert table and cut it myself. Folks, just so's y'all know, when folks decorate cakes like that, we do appreciate the compliments, but it is absolutely edible, so go on ahead and eat it cause it won't keep forever. Folks nowadays have cameras on their cellphones that they carry everywhere with them, and there's plenty of time to fawn over it before it's time to eat, so y'all go ahead and take a picture and have a slice, it's why we make them.

My mom used a similar chocolate pound cake recipe in her catering business many years ago. I don't think she did any other "flavor" of cake for the grooms cake. It was the one everyone loved and requested!
This looks delicious. Here's a tip, when greasing your pans, use a pastry brush with high-quality butter, avocado or coconut oil, then follow up with flour. It'll save you money also. Yes, Pam is convenient but, those sprays contain propellants and usually an inflammatory oil, such as canola. Beware, look at the ingredients: canola, sunflower, palm, palm kernel, and corn are all inflammatory ingredients. The only oils that are safe for cooking, so to speak, are avocado, coconut, and extra virgin olive oil.

Sometimes If you wait a little too long to take the cake out of the pan it can stick also. What I do is put the pan back into the oven at the temp you baked it at for a couple of minutes and it usually pops right out. ❤

I cannot say why, but all the pound cakes I’ve ever made (and I’ve made many), called for the eggs to be added in one at a time, beating just until each are incorporated.
Paula, not to give you tips,as everything you make is wonderful. Pam spray makes a spray with flour in the spray,and it’s 💯 nothing ever sticks when you use this cooking spray…(just a suggestion) When my mom baked a chocolate cake she would grease the pan and dust it with cocoa powder,that too worked wonderful, it was full proof. After thought: my moms no longer with us,though she LOVED you (she was a huge fan of the gooey pumpkin bars,and the corn casserole…FYI)
I absolutely love your recipes Paula. But I get frustrated because it seems like there's always one ingredient that you don't give the amount. Unless I missed something you didn't say how much milk or Vanilla goes into the actual cake recipe. The Vanilla you can figure a teaspoon but how much milk? It looked to me like a 2 cup measuring cup full but who knows for sure??😒
