"Byssan Lull" in Lucidity

- I haven't followed the development of 2D puzzle/platformer Lucidity very closely, so imagine my surprise when I tested the demo version on Xbox LIVE Arcade and suddenly heard this hauntingly beautiful rendition of a well-known Swedish lullaby while staring at the otherwise completely English main menu.
Turns out that the composer at Lucasarts had been actively searching for a non-English lullaby as well as an opportunity to work with a Swedish singer named Lisa Eriksson, and then decided to combine these two ideas by picking "Byssan Lull" as the game's title theme. For more details on this interesting turn of events, read this:

As is evident from the blog post, the exact origins of "Byssan Lull" are difficult to pin down but what's certain is that the song become widely known through the efforts of legendary Swedish artist, songwriter and musicologist Evert Taube (1890-1976). The complete lullaby is much longer than this short excerpt, by the way...
The Lucasarts composer provides a partial translation of the lyrics on his site which I used as a starting point for writing the subtitles included in this video.
This version is a bit more eerie than usual, but in general I think a lot of Swedish songs can sound pretty sad/eerie, like "Trollmors Vaggvisa", "Vem kan segla förutan vind", etc. Which I like, to be honest.
I was watching the trailer for this game and i heard singing in the end..... and i went like "Wait a minute... is that Swedish?"
Awesome adaptation of this sweet lullaby, i love it!
Such beautiful music, like a dream world or paradise
@CaliforniaTD Any scandinavian lullaby is more or less eerie..It is the haunting charm of the north
This is so soothing to me I remember playing this game so much
wow i love this song it so majestic and beautiful i used to sit there on luciditys game menu just to hear it
Pretty eerie for a lullaby.
They made it eerier than it is normally, at least for me. If you're interested, search for Byssan lull Peter LeMarc.
I would always start playing the game only to end up sitting at the main menu, so I can listen to this song
this is absolute beauty
I totally agree. While Act I was indeed pretty much a stroll in the park, Acts II and III got much more challenging with the positioning of the fireflies, the monsters, being in open space and also with the black / white wall following. Several deaths were involved! :D but trying to get all fireflies is a real challenge - did you completely finish it yet? with 100% fireflies caught?
my dad used to sing me this song when i was little....
sakis karpas was here...
I also waited on the menu to hear this. Its fucking awesome! It reminds now of some nightmare before christmas crazy shit. Can you send me the .mp3 of this?
Apart from the subtitled lyrics which are already included in the video, the original Swedish lyrics as well as another English translation is available in the blog post which is linked in the video description.
Nukes top 5 brought me here
Well, that's your opinion. Because I'm a Swede, and I love this song and find it incredibly beautiful. I'm 17 btw, and not some old guy.
Så, nej, hade inte varit bättre på ett annat språk. (Två år gammal kommentar, jag vet.)
Well i can speak swedish arabic english and french
And i am 10 years old bro
Is that the lyrics showing on the screen ? Not very understand the full meaning of this song ?
I love this song!
Not the best version of this awesomely beautiful Taube song, but kinda awesome that they have it in a game O.o. Lucasart has good taste :D
yeah thank you
@pctheninja Hmm, you seem to be implying that non-scandinavians are incapable of reading video descriptions... ;)
Feel free to dislike the song, but at least get your facts straight (or better yet, read the video description before posting).
The developer is American (Lucasarts) - not Japanese - and there's no evidence that the Norse god of lightning had anything to do with the choice of music in this game.
Skärpning, alltså...
Like Buddha said, lots of songs from the area tend to be very somber, but then I wouldn't want an upbeat song to sing when trying to make kids sleep.
Again, unless you start using the standard method for presenting factual claims (i.e. by providing references which other people can verify for themselves), you should refrain from making assertions about individual developers' intentions and supposed penchants for Scandinavian mythology.
However, if you DO have relevant links - or at least a name for the "newspaper" you mentioned - which support your claims, I'd be happy to add that info to the video description on the left.
@CaliforniaTD Us Sweeedish people are an eerie folk~
Well, it is a remade version for the game so it should fit. So. Of course, normally it's not like that.
@CaliforniaTD I know your comment is a year old, but I can't help to answer :P It is made eerie because the game wants it that way :P It's not this eerie normally x)
Bon nuit , merci .
Bueno, pues 2021 a la espera de la tercera oleada de Covid en México
