@@creamthephoenix if you're doing a full livedex, there's a lot of pokemon that you unfortunately just need to transfer up (like you mentioned in the vid, it's around 100 or so)
It took me a little under a year, but I was able to complete the national dex in my childhood copy of White 2 after starting from scratch in February of 2023. Got the shiny charm, and bred three shinies, and SR'd the entire swords trio, all within three months after getting the charm. It was hell on earth, considering how I've had to move a ton of Pokémon up from various games. Getting the national dex here assumes you own one of every Pokémon game prior to this one, as well as a DS Lite. And a 3DS with Dream Radar. Yeesh. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone if you're not a Unova purist like myself, or you value your sanity and free time. Though if you want to go through with it, I'm a senior in college, and I made it through with the very VERY limited time I had. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
I really do wish they'd go to just one version per gen, too. The games end up being more or less functionally the same, just occasionally missing content that's in the other version. Like, I was so upset that Sword just didn't have the ghost type gym. Luckily, my gf has Shield, so I got to go on my spooky gym challenge 😁
I’m about 90 off completing this. 10 years on and off of pain. Game time count stopped at 999:59 years ago. For people trying to cut corners on costs I have a fake soulsilver which I got on eBay for around £15 ($20ish) and still transfers to my legit plat which then transfers to my black 2. Update: 8 months later I’m missing just regice and regigigas and need to go and buy white 2😮💨
18:20 would HIGHLY reccomend getting this smeargle if ur going for a livedex, it was made perfectly for catching pokemon (already knows spore+false swipe and has best possible natures/IVs/EVs) and holds silk scarf.
I love being able to use UA-cam like a search engine and find exactly the video that answers my question. I also never got to use the dream radar so that’s crazy to think it might be possible.
I think some of those pokemon are available to transfer from Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, or Soul Silver, but I understand that this challenge is meant to be that you have to catch them *ALL* in gen 5 games. It is crazy just how many you can get, just in game 😅

I completed this 649 national dex sans Mew (which was the one Pokémon I could not obtain) for XY/ORAS I used an powersave. Any gen 7+ it was easier since there's only 400 which could all be caught in game with just some version exclusives you might need to trade for.
In omega ruby, I had a living dex that took me forever to do, and then someone stole my game. I was devastated. But one day, I will get the game again and do another living dex.
I finished this challenge around a year ago on my White 2 copy around 10 years after i started my savefile. Unfortunately, the exploit which allows us to access the old events wasnt found, therefore i caught shaymin, darkrai and arceus through tweaking glitches and Jirachi Mew and Deoxys through arbitrary code execution in Gen3. Just a few months later I found out it could have taken so much less time.
I have all the games up to gen 4 and gen 5 i have black 2, and white 1. Can i still do the National dex, i do have 2 DS, and pokebank and poke transfer all set up before they they closed the eshop. I wanna attempt it but i dont wanna get almost there and cant do it because a handful of pokemon.. I also was able to claim the meloetta and genesect from the fan server thing..
It’s criminal that an Ace trainer in White has a freaking Espeon, and I can’t get a damn eevee until I complete hgss dpp AND THEN transfer them 😒🥲 don’t taunt me with my favorite Pokemon and make it this hard..
@@christafox13 I completely lost my mind when I saw the moss rock in Pinwheel Forest, while trying to get Petilil and looking at Bulbapedia that Eevee is not even post game. Remember : HGSS didn't have those two rocks at all, despite having an eevee event at the 4th gym..
The only dex I have ever completed is the national dex in omega Ruby. 721 Pokémon mainly through the help of the gts (back in the day when it wasn't bugged and filled with hacked Pokémon). I might undertake the gen 5 national dex completion at some day but glad to know it's still doable👍
How do you request Pokemon you haven't seen before on the gts? I'm trying to fill the Unova dex but it won't let me request Oshawatt simply because I've never seen one. Is there any way around this?
Black 2 is my favorite Pokémon game. But there are no perfect games, and this right here is a big weakness of B2W2. You could catch a lot of Pokémon between all the Gen IV games, so it sucks that so many Pokémon are only available in Gen V through transfer (and tons of effort for legendary Pokémon). I still want to give it a shot though. I used to be on board with version exclusive Pokémon, but now I see the problem. I mean, look at Legends Arceus. You can catch the full Hisuian Poké Dex on your own, in one game. It’s great! I’d like to see them continue that trend, but maybe the devs don’t want to break tradition. Or the execs don’t want to lose money. I appreciate that mythical Pokémon aren't needed to get the in-game achievements. So I don’t hate them. But it sucks to miss out on in-game events.

300 bucks for pokemon black 2??? in 🇨🇱 i can bought one for 35-70 dollars, and the other ds games for like 60-120 dollars (hg/ss is the most expensive), but otherwise is pretty cheap
@@le_beks yeah man, i don't understand why in the usa and europe when games become a trend for a few weeks on social networks, the price explodes. In Europe a Spanish streamer bought a 3ds and showed it live and automatically the price of the 3ds went up a lot. 😢
better choice is to just emulate these games on the pc and play at 10x speed and in some emulators it can be at 16x speed not to mention all the cheat codes for pokemon

You don’t actually need gen 4 games to get Glameow and Stunky, as they can both be easily found in hidden grottos while doing funfest missions.

Also they had the nerve to include the moss (in the first forest too) and ice evolution stone locations, and then not let me have an eevee
