Steve Marriott, in his prime, was a glorious singer and frontman.
He had his demons and I find it such a tragedy what happened to him.

Yes, on the cover of "Town and country" there are pictures of Ridley & Frampton on one side and Marriott and Shirley on another. That is the way it is on my vinyl copy at least. Mine is a gatefold.
"Town and Country" has one of their best songs, namely "Silver Tongue"

Hi Larry. Thanks for spotlighting Humble Pie. They are one of my all-time favorites. If you are interested, please read the book "steve Marriott; All Too Beautiful" by Paolo Hewitt and John Hellier I seen the third version of Humble Pie, with Bobby Trench on guitar and Anthony "Sooty" Jones on Bass, at Tucson, Arizona in 1980. They oprned for Frank marino and mahogany Rush and just blew Marino away. They couldn't follow the Pie. Steve Marriott passed away in a house fire in 1991.

I haven’t commented on any of your videos in a long time, but I couldn’t find anyone that had a video on that humble pie book which I recently ordered, some of the best content on UA-cam keep it up 👍

As a young teenager I absolutely loved I don't Need No Doctor by Humble Pie Larry and I saw them along with Black Sabbath at a festival at Varsity Stadium in Toronto,I actually preferred Humble Pie to Black Sabbath. Bob

I used to see Humble Pie at the warehouse here in New Orleans. They were a great, fun live band. I bought that big box. I also bought the multi disc Rocking The Fillmore. I really enjoyed that one. Those were some serious hard rockin days.🤣😂

I saw him with Clem Clemson, just after Frampton left, and all. Saw them three times at Winterland, they still touring up, and rocking a few more. There's got to be one of the best live albums ever

Steve and Jerry were on the back cover of the vinyl. Steve in a tree and Jerry crouching down by a stream. Town on the front cover and country on the back.

Also a comment on the boxset as I am watching. Agree with you Larry, its nicely done in general with photos/write up but I do wish that they would realise physical media collectors still always like to see the original album artwork properly reproduced.

I'm glad you did this, I did not realize Humble Pie got the book treatment. Just ordered it, thanks! I had the same entry point with them as you, Rockin' the Fillmore is a top 5 live album. And like you, I was disappointed with Thunderbox. I do like Eat It, but Street Rats is a pretty bad album. For me, Steve Marriott is one of the top 5 singers of all-time. Nice one Larry!

After the first four with P.F. which are all great I am not interested. Even Rockin’ The Fillmore is just overrated. They just go on and on and on .. doing the same thing with Steve shouting away.

I have not seen the author
    Robert Day-Webb book yet,
but I can tell you that if he
    wrote up their later albums
    in a positive light,
it's because they were fine lps.
Just because you were told that their later ones weren't as good
    as the others,especially not
    hearing them for yourself,
it's not a good idea to believe it.
    Peter Frampton left because of
    lack of chemistry amidst Marriott,
and he did go on to form his own
    group FRAMPTON'S CAMEL.
Despite the inner conflicts that nearly every band goes through,
    Marriott did rejoin Humble Pie
a few times,as well as putting out
    solo stuff.
Their first 2 Official Bootleg series
CD box sets as HUMBLE PIE
    are excellent,also.

      When SPOOKY TOOTH released
      their lp Mirror,we just figured
that it couldn't possibly be as good
as their run on A&M records simply
      because Mike Harrison had left.
      Man,were we ever wrong.
      Gary Wright and Mick Jones
      (he of FOREIGNER) stepped up,
      and the whole group together
      excelled with an amazing album.

    • @BigSky1

Go For The Throat and On To Victory are not good records. The band were long past their sell by date.

      @@BigSky1
Yeah, those two weren't really what the band was renowned for.
The heart and soul were gone,
replaced by a harder edge Rock sound. Those were missing from the singing from Marriott as well,
I thought. The infectious tone that made him the vocalist that he was
before (all thru their run on A&M
/Immediate) was reduced to just wailing,it seems.I don't want to say too much negative stuff because it was them that set the bar so high.
I do stand behind their later 2 lps
Larry mentioned, Thunderbox and Street Rats.Hopefully Larry will be able to listen to them in their entirety.
Also, people don't know that drummer Jerry Shirley was just
17 yrs old when the group started.
