      @@avrilcadabra hey! with multimidi does the force capture knob changes on the external synths? like if you have the minilogue track recording and turn the filter knob on the physical synth, will it record that cc change on the force? also does it have any sort of midi definitions? like can you save certain cc's for certain devices so you're not always flipping through manuals if you want to program cc automation in the force? thanks!

    Perfect tutorial.I have the FA06 and other USB gear.I will now purchase the Force.Love the midi capability's.I guess you would still have to convert the midi to audio when done sequencing in the force maybe to an audio track

      Thanks. I notice the clock jitter according to my digitakt is within a 1bpm range. I get clock jitter on midi cables also. But just so you know. The force can record about 20 minutes of stereo audio per project.
      I am happy to send the forces outputs to my zoom h6. You can the record 4 outputs on the force separately. Or you can just record say a bar 4 loop from the FA. Best not to think of the force as an 8 track tascam recorder. Until they add disk streaming you ideally would be using samples or audio tracks playing clips

    Fantastic video. I’m seriously thinking of getting the Force as my standalone DAW. I only have a simple set up consisting of a Roland Jupiter XM and a Roland RD88. So Using the USB hub method I could have the RD88 playing it’s own tones or the XM,s tones or Force’s built in sound engines tones,or play the XM or RD88 from the Force’s pads…….

    • @avrilcadabra
      @avrilcadabra  2 роки тому +1

      It is impressive for it's ability to make complex midi routing simple, the only chore is setting up midi tracks that say rd88 in to XM out etc but you can make templates, I find the big force update to be a bit unstable compared to before , they are working on updates though. I would still like an XM and as far as my research went would pair well with the force.

      Hi Daryl, the way I had it setup here was with a mixer plugged into the force. I had a 10 port powered usb hub plugged into the force also, all synths had usb midi and were plugged into the usb hub, the only sort of issue you will have with this is if you wanted to use forces new guitar amps on the audio inputs it would affect everything. So you would be better of running a pedal cab sim before the mixer. That said the force now supports mixers like the tascam model 12 which might allow more inputs, though I am not sure as I don't have a mixer like that to try.

    I'm glad i found this video. Thanks for directing me over here. I have an arturia keyboard and the td-3, but when i input all the settings from the video i still can not use the keyboard or the force pads to play the TD-3. No sound comes from the TD-3. Is there some setup to do on the TD-3? During all of this I have the TD-3 on write pattern mode, and if i click pitch mode i can play the TD-3 on itself with sound, but nothing happens from the FORCE. I can see the arturia lighting up pads on the FORCE, but doesn't seem like the TD-3 wants to do anything.

    • @kaislate
      @kaislate 2 роки тому

      OMG... I finally got it to work. Factory reset the TD-3 via synthtribe. I don't know what changed, but I can have the FORCE sequence as well as send individual notes from my midi keyboard. Only thing now is that in order to play the keyboard I have to have the midi track selected in the force. Maybe there is a global input setting in which I can be on any track and still have the keyboard play the midi track and thus the TD-3.

    • @avrilcadabra
      @avrilcadabra  2 роки тому

      Glad you got it working mostly, I recall several times this happening also, it will be the sync mode (midi, usb, sync etc in the td3) also the force does let you set a midi device (in preferences to be global so it can control any track) but they keep changing that menu every firmware. Unfortunately you will have to make a template or project file with your midi tracks set up on the force if you don't want to do it each time. This is the downside of it. With smaller setups things can be a lot simpler just plugging a midi cable between devices.

    • @kaislate
      @kaislate 2 роки тому

      @@avrilcadabra yes I totally agree. I have 5pin midi DIN wired up to everything and controlled by a motu mtp av unit before I had midi over USB to the force. The one thing that doesn't work now is bpm sync. The Akai Force does not accept midi timecode to change the global bpm of a project even though in the midi settings page it has a checkbox for it. So not sure there. Seems to break bpm sync entirely. My korg kaoss units no longer are receiving midi bpm sync either now. So I still have some more trial and error to do. I'm glad I can play the td3 with a keyboard or the force pads now though. I also got my rd-6 playable from the force though I have to figure out how to create custom drum pads on the force that correspond to the correct midi notes to send to the rd-6 as they are spread out and the notes are not consecutive for the rd-6 instruments.

    • @kaislate
      @kaislate 2 роки тому

      I know there was some questions here and elsewhere on whether or not accents and slides work. I can say that as of the latest force firmware that accents and slides work perfectly well. I have it set that velocity over 96 triggers an accent and slides can be played just you normally would on a keyboard and has much less tonal falloff this way when compared to playing slides directly on the td3. You can still manage to get the falloff sound though if you want that type of sound.

    I think the Midi update for MPC and Force is so powerful both in the studio and live too (When ever next we can do that) I'm using midi tracks and q links to control synths and effects pedals which are either on the floor or too far away to reach.

    • @avrilcadabra
      @avrilcadabra  3 роки тому

      What q links are you using. The force does not send cc messages right ( I can use digitakt for that if needed ). I am curious what you are controlling on effects pedals to.

    • @peterjessop1878
      @peterjessop1878 3 роки тому

      @@avrilcadabra I didn't realise Force can't send MIDI CC. MPC Midi Tracks do, so I control parameters on a Zoia and an H9 from the q links. What those parameters are is dependent on the patch, but generally its things like effect depth, feedback and delay times. Like the Digitakt its also great for automation of outgoing CCs.
      I have considered using CV tracks on those effects pedals too as both have CV (6.3mm) inputs, though not got around to testing it.

    * Since the force is routing the signals, does it not matter which MIDI channel each device is broadcasting on?
    * If you had more than ten machines to connect then I suppose you could chain USB hubs into USB hubs, right?
    * What else besides a Force could do this sort of routing?

    • @avrilcadabra
      @avrilcadabra  3 роки тому

      You could set all the synths to channel 1. It treats each as its own and they each get their own 32 channels ( not that I know of any synth that has more than 16 ). I'm not sure how big of usb hubs you can get. But yeah there is another usb port to plug another hub in. Others have mentioned the retro kits 006 as being able to do something similar

    Personally, I think it's a mistake to use any music making device to route MIDI signals because it limits you to only that throughput, and vastly reduces the flexibility of a studio. It also adds the overhead of needing to open said device and manually set up routing before you can have any one instrument in your studio send signals to another. A better solution is to use a sophisticated MIDI interface, such as the iConnectivity mio10. This way no device is the master. You can easily route signals from anywhere to anywhere, at any time, even if some of those devices are offline.

    • @avrilcadabra
      @avrilcadabra  3 роки тому +2

      It is far more flexible than with midi cables. Previously if I wanted to sequence the FA off the td3 I'd Have to move the td3 over near the fa06 which means re routing its power supply cable. Then run a midi out cable to fa midi in. Which means nothing else could control the fa06 then grab a laptop plug the td3 in. Go into its software editor change the channel to match the studio set instrument or rearrange the studio set in the FA. With this setup I just pick td3 as input and FA and channel as output.
      You can turn any of these synths on and use them on their own. I would just plug headphones into the mixer and go.
      The mio iconnectivity requires adding a whole computer then you have to wait for that to boot and how do you route in mio. Do you need to load software or open ableton etc. That just seems way more complicated than buying a cheap usb hub

    • @andrew1550
      @andrew1550 Рік тому

      There is no midi sync problems when using usb in the Force, the entire thing will lag a few milliseconds behind samples, but it lags that few milliseconds together and can be counteracted with the Sample Delay plugin. I have a similar setup with a 15 port Rack mount SEDNA usb hub from Amazon, it's so much better than running 30 midi cables and much cheaper.
