Thanks Pink Buddha - spent many hours trying to connect a Modal Argon 8 to the Force via midi… only to discover a duff midi lead connection. Didn’t think to check that until I saw the issue you had on this vid and hey presto! Thanks. Midi lead has been sent to midi lead heaven 💥
🍟🍟🍟✌️ glad it helped
I bought the sub 37 2 years ago, just took it out of the box and set it up. Im so glad you posted this, I have the Force too.
2 years ago and you haven't played it yet?? Make sure you download the VST plugin, which allows you to control it from your DAW - and then you can save presets with your song that way and automate changes. It's so well designed.
2 years, how is that possible 😮
Thank you for all of these, and for *continuing* to make these helpful and intuitive videos for the rest of us...
👌🤘
Pink Buddha why dont you continue force fridays series?? I follow you since 3 months, i am waiting akai force update (for arranger/Song mode & midi multi capability). Have you heard anything about update?
Awesome video man!!!
Looking forward to getting my hands on an Akai Force in the next few months.
Robbie Hogg i ordered my Akai Force as soon as Ohio started talking about locking down. So glad I did, really made quarantine so much more bearable. There's a LOT of things to learn, I've watched a lot of videos on it, honestly, when you get one just start on the first video of the Force Friday and play along. They are some of the best at looking at very specific parts of the Force, and time indicators at the beginning of the videos make it easy to go back to exactly what you are looking for. At this point I've stopped searching for other videos and just review past Force Friday's as needed. Definitely pick one up man, well worth the investment!
Cool! enjoyed the process and the the music also, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
It blew me away too! The harmonics..I never knew they were discernable, until I played it.
✌✌✌
I'm glad you brought up the fact of not being able to record midi or record audio simultaneously with the Force 😩 I was just trying to do it yesterday. Come on Akai ‼️🙏🏽
yeh that's a bit rubbish, i hope they attend to that in a bugfix..is that the same case with MPC?
Right?!
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Did Multi-midi mode fix this problem?
this sound is massiv. Love your videos and help especially on the force.
🤘🤘
I know it's quite off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Eric Jesse flixportal =)
@Everett Karter Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it !
@Eric Jesse Happy to help xD
really helpful! Thank you for sharing this! tunes great also!
Just got the force a week ago and it's a beast. Lots of places dropped the price to 999 usd
Love the hair. The Super Glue to the nose look.
I dig how the sequence remembers all of the parameters. I hope my Prophet Rev2 will do the same with my MPCX. You got the two sounding tight. I want a Sub 37 😬
haha....super glue to the nose? I don't even know what that means.
re midi cables, yeh with the new connector types you'd be well placed to have a few spare as it's not the same as the midi din connector type i have maybe 25+ midi din leads so you need at least a handful of this 1/8 inch adapter in case of failure.
I had exactly the same reaction to the 37, listening to the Cory Henry demo. Blew my mind. My favorite synth of all time.
✌️✌️✌️
mpc just got a huge update so hopefully force users will get the same soon
If you have a chance would you be interested in doing a studio tour and talk more about your overall setup as you have some interesting gear and instruments in the background! Love the stand up bass.
Good suggestion! I'll do that
yeah man do a sub 37 review/sound design thing!
Thanks for this video. Currently I use a Launchpad Pro Mk3 that has a chord mode where I can set a root note and the horizontal rows of pads will play chords. Does the Akai Force have something like this?
Yes...but not sure how much they are similar or different
there has to be a way to keep 'record arm/monitor enabled' so you can change tracks and still hear the moog. i'd look in settings or possible use a modifier to enable persistent arm/monitor on the moog track.
You can...I figured it out afterwards. It’s a bit klunky though
Would you add a recording device? Zoom r20 or learn the akai force recording ?
Hi Jonathan, great stuff you are bringing to us in your videos! :)
Is the limitation of playing only the currently selected channel gone in firmware 3.0.5? Thx & good luck in these days!
Yes...I'll be doing an updated video soon
Thank you but it would also helpfull to see the back side of devices in every case to you are mentioning. Just a nice to have. Thx.
And the midi settings in the Preferences on the Force.
✌️😎
Is it possible to apply effects to midi tracks? I don't know how to use Force's effects for midi tracks I get from external synths.
Like reverb and delay? You have to get audio into the force beeper you can apply affects
Is it possible to have digital audio over USB back to Force instead of analog audio via XLR? I have a multi-timbral synth, and would like to have independent track back to force.
As I said to your other comment - the Force now supports using an audio interface, up to 32 (I think??) different audio channels in and out. So you have plenty if you use a separate interface.
I really like this music. Would you say it's part of a specific genre? What would be it's genre name? Is it representative of what you produce?
Hmmm....I don't know how to describe my music. It's more like underground hiphop/electronica. I usually just say it's a mix of James Blake, Tom Yorke, and Philip Glass (with a pinch of Aphex Twin and Kanye). Links in the description for listening to my music elsewhere.
I’m having a similar issue with the force and the keystep pro. For whatever reason the force midi dongle isn’t working for me so I have to hook up the force to my keystep pro via usb. In doing so the force shares all 4 tracks with whatever other synths I am controlling, the ksp plays both at the same time. Do you know of a way to control midi channels on the force? I’m going to be bald by the time I sort this out.
Yeah - can't control MIDI channels (yet?). Just whatever track you're on. Which sucks.
I cant get Mpc Live 2 to work with Moog Sub37, midi connection has been a disaster. I am thinking about selling them both and go back to Reason 11 again lol
Ugh that sucks
interesting video!
Glad you think so!
Buddha! I got a Roland fantom and I’ve been driving myself nuts trying to figure out how to slave the force to the Fantom.. basically want to use the force as a glorified guitar looper so I can sequence audio tracks from the fantom.. is this possible? How can I achieve this if so? Any help would be huge! Thanks man! Great video as always!!
Hmm...I don't really know anything about the Fantom. Sorry!
That cable in the bin... Did it come from Arturia?
DIN Sync cable (hence not liking MIDI)?
You know...I honestly don't remember. That was a while ago
Can you tell or show what midi settings you have in your preferences on the Akai Force? I am trying to figure out why my midi hub is not recognizing my Force. I plan to control my Montage 6 via midi notes on the Force and vise versa as well. Thank God the Montage has an easy to find Local Control button in the settings.
Can you not connect/recognize any midi device with the Force?
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Thank you for the reply. I was able to get the midi situation solved. Now I'm just dealing with getting the audio from the midi that's triggered on my Yamaha Montage to record on an audio track on my Force. But I'm pretty sure this is something that I will have to correct via my Montage.
I play through the sampler to have more then one synth going
The Sub 37 usb midi is class compliant. That being the case couldn’t you plug it directly into the Force’s USB port?
🤦♂️ didn't even think about that! ✌️✌️
Does anyone know of the issue at 3:48 has been resolved? Exactly what I was trying to figure out. Freakin sucks.
Yes! It's been fixed in the latest updates (a year ago, I think?). So now you can have external MIDI assigned to a specific track, or just bouncing between whatever track you are on.
Thanks for the videos love your content. Keep it up. Godspeed Stay Safe
Thanks, you too!
Ok I have a question I have not been able to figure out.
There are 128 Midi tracks.
I don't need that many but lets say I wanted 24 tracks.
Does that mean I could record 24 tracks from hardware synths or would an external hardware synthesizer be an audio track?
It might be both, because it would be midi going out to send what you want the hardware to play. But then you need an audio track to record the audio coming back in.
Question…can you trigger the rows of your arrangement via external MIDI on the Akai Force? I can’t find anyone online doing this.
I’m trying control Clips on an MPC Live from a drumKat but the sequencer doesn’t engage thus not looping the clips.
Not really...as you can't map that particular feature to external midi
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Dag nabbit!!! I want a hardware version of Ableton!! 😤
Very nice walk through! Surprised I'm just now seeing this. The midi channels never bothered me because I can only do one thing at a time...lol. AND I use the pads or midi notes. No keyboard skill here. lol Thinking about getting a Subsequent 37. The Sirin turned me into a Mooger.
Moog is the best
Awesome video, thanks! What eurorack case is that behind you?
Erica Synths one - it's awesome!
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Thank you! I love my Doepfer P9, but looking to expand... Looks nice af
It is! But kind of expensive! 😅
18:44 oh... it would be nice if you finish this track and upload it somewhere.
Thanks! I'll put it in the queue (but it's a long list, sadly!)
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy PLEASE FINISH IT!
I have noticed that the yellow Midi to 1/8" adaptors for the Circuit don't work with the Force and vice-versa. Perhaps ring and tip are reversed.
Interesting - haven't really explored that to see if that's the issue with mine.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Hi there. That should be the case. There are 2 "standarts" to 3,5mm MIDI cables. And i´ve noticed that you had a white adapter in your hands. The Force´s originals are black. I have put labels on my cables so i don´t get confused with them. For that reason i realy love the elektron cycles ( i believe every other elektron does that too). It has some setting you can use to tell the hardware witch cable-standart you are using.
With force presets, is this a practical method to use a midi keyboard to control force sounds in a seamless live performance?
Yeah - but I don't really like the Force plugins, for instruments. But that's just me. I really hate virtual synths most of the time in everything, not just the Force.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy I know it’s no moog, but how does quality compare to Roland or Logic Pro X virtual synths?
I know this is 3 years old and might not even own it anymore but don’t suppose you got the chance to make an expansion pack with it?
With the sub37? I should do it - it's such an amazing synth.
Dope beat. Looks like a sub 25 on screen.
✌️✌️
You are a super tutorial-man (thanks for this) but as artist.. 😆😆
lol....hey, you dissin' my music??
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Better continue with tutorials ;)
That track you dreamed up there, has all the hall marks of a LORN track, are you influenced by their music?, or was it a happy accident? incidentally i will be getting a force soon, as Akai has met most of the gaps, it had when it first came out. i actually returned the first one i had, it had a dodgy C pad
good vid by the way..
Honestly, I was really just messing around. No plan.
what difference is there between connecting midi in or midi out with connecting it by usb?
Nothing. They are the same.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy thank you very much !
Hi, as a keyboard player, I’am Waiting for the MPK version of MPC live or the MPK FORCE. I’am agree with you about playing keyboard on the FORCE, I prefer to play on a real keyboard.
👌👌👌
Did they do the update? I'm considering buying it.
Why not use cv & gate ?
You know, the Force cv outs are a bit quirky and funky - don't always work right.
I don't understand why you connect it with midi if you only use audio tracks?
I often want to record the midi notes first, so I can correct them and get it just like I want it. Then let the Force "play" the keyboard, while I record the audio - so I can use both hands to mess with the knobs on the Moog.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy thank you
Have the roland 707 the same problem?
Same problem? with controlling the force?
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Yes, I think it was about that. But I am going to buy an akai mpc one. No problems with that.
Was the sub 37 a keeper for u?
Omg yes. It's my desert island synth.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy I can only afford the sub 25 so it will have to do. Ordering it tomm.
I hope Akai is learning from you.
Long ass run to a short slide 😅
It's abundantly clear that the best and brightest engineers are working for Steinberg, Logic, Ableton, Avid, etc., NOT InMusic Akai.
So true
4:00 is this issue solved in 3.0.5?
Next to each MIDI input port are the Master and Track buttons:
• When Master is enabled, MIDI data from this port will always go to the current track. The Force Pads are an
example of a device that is always Global.
• When Track is enabled, this MIDI port will appear in the list of available track MIDI Inputs.
Yes - 3.0.6 is the newest version when I write this, and MIDI is much better. Only problem is that you can’t map external cc control (except pitch bend, sustain pedal, and modulation wheel). and you can’t map them, it’s just that these are the only external cc that the Force reads.
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Ok, great :) My plan is to reward myself with one of these after a few completed university exams.. ^_^
It would be great if at least channel volume could be controlled from external sources, especially motorized stuff like behringer bcf 2000 =)
Bro are you recording this on a 2001 Logitech webcam?
Lol...you mocking me?
Nah man you shred. The video is not great quality.I know we can agree on that. It's all.love brother
I mean, you are not incorrect. I'm trying to figure out the right camera situation. 🤷♂️
