Honestly, I think those Cowboys teams from the 90s could stomp out the current KC Chiefs with ease. They might be the best, most balanced NFL team of all time. If the 2007 Patriots won the SB I would say they are the best, but those Cowboys teams were incredible. This is coming from a Giants fan btw.

Yea Jimmy is a motivator, communicator and model for positive thinking, but he was was also an innovator. I have never seen the likes of the offensive line the cowboys had from 1990-1995. Eric Williams, Mark Tuinei, Nate Newton, John Geisek, Kevin Gogan, Mark Stepnowski, and probably the greatest of the, all, Larry Allen (apologies for any name misspellings, and hope I didn’t leave anyone out). At that time, the best defensive lineman in the NFL was Reggie White. The battles he and Eric Williams fought with one another are just legendary. That Dallas O line was mean, nasty and hard as rocks. I like the triplets and playmakers, but I LOVE that O line.

Jimmy was definitely a psychological genius it comes as no surprise that he majored in psychology in college I think it really gave him a coaching edge#cowboysnation
What a good coach. I see how Jimmy coaches and then look at someone like Bobby Knight, and it puts things in perspective. Basketball is a very different game from football, but I’d rather play under Jimmy Johnson than Knight. I think Johnson would build me up more instead of break me down. Coaches like Knight are great for when you are very young, and need to be inducted in a harsh manner to the world of competition. I had many coaches that were tough and used the power of negative thinking that made me headstrong and tough in my later years. No men after them could intimidate me quite the way they could. Sure, if you point a gun at me i’ll give you my wallet...but i aint gonna run suicides till I puke for you. But as a grown man...you shouldn’t have to be taught the way Knight teaches. Knight would have been a phenomenal HS basketball coach. The way Jimmy coaches is the way you coach men.
That's what made Jimmy great is that he knew what buttons to push to get the best out of players. He knew when to get on a player who messed up and knew who to cut when they were slacking off. That's why he was great at Miami and great with the Cowboys. You don't get into the college and pro football hall of fames if you are a terrible coach.
I've read a book on Bobby Knight. I think his unceasing efforts to control his image were a complete waste of time. Instead of the rest of focusing on his incredible basketball "mind" We were constantly distracted by him and his "head" games with his players. A mistake he will always blame on the press.

Yes Jimmy did some TV commercials, but the very next year he made sure the team was focused and made sure not to get lax after winning a Super Bowl. That's what made coaches like Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, Bill Bellichick, etc great is that they didn't get caught up in the limelight.

He neglected his kids and didn't attend hardly any of their functions. He admits this today and has established a great relationship with them. I am not defending him but glad they were able to establish that connection later in life. Some kids would not entertain that idea

Coaches like Jimmy, Parcells, Belichick, Lombardi, and Levy treated their players like men. That's why players respected them so much.
You know there’s a lot of truth to that. Johnson was a master at handling chaos too, both at Miami and with Dallas.
