Very helpful video, I learned through other write ups that there is a keyhole for a "pin" or allen key you can use to keep the tension off the tensioner allowing you to remove the wrench in the process too. The value of a Harbor Freight fan belt tool is clear. That long-armed meat fork looking thing that helps guide the belt into areas so you're not breaking your back or going under the truck four times. Keep the old belt in your truck box just in case, and spray some belt dressing on the new one.

Below the tensioner is a hole you can slip a 5mm allen key into that will hold the tensioner in place once tension is removed. Much easier to change without the tool in the way.

Thanks, I’m pretty sure I have a squeaky belt as well on my 2017. I hear it more upon acceleration near my alternator. My belt looks fine probably just gonna lube it up a bit and see if I hear it still. Just hoping it’s not the pulley itself.

Same is happening to mine. Did the belt replacement do the trick?

    Nice work. Simple.
You sure it isn't easier to pull the skidplates and do it without having to contort around that fan?

I have 38k on my 2018 and i know i got a whining noise from my idler pulley. And there is a TSB for drive belt chirp. Going on a road trip so im going to replace tbe belt and pulley and keep the old belt as an emergency spare. Better to change before it gives me problems in the middle of no where

Weird you had to replace the belt on such a newer truck. Was it just cause it was squeaking?

Its a common problem on these 3rd gen tacomas the idler pulleys squeek

@@BlueSTI if you mix some wd40 and water in a spray bottle and LIGHTLY spray the nuts on the upper and lower idler pulleys the noise should go away (for a short time) if its the pulleys. OR if you have and air compressor blow air into the pulleys to get the dust out. The pulleys are facing forwards instead of to the sides which is how the dust dirt sand gets easily trapped in there.

Toyota has a recall on the belt for 3rd gen tacos... go to toyota and they swap it free of charge.

Cut the belt to remove it. And you dont lubricate a drive belt.

These belts shouldn't have to be replaced till 100,000 miles. Carefully take a bristle brush (toothbrush style) lightly to both sides of belt while idling. This will scratch off the built up grime & save you the time & money of doing all this

There is a TSB for i think 2016 to 2020 Tacoma's. Drive belt chirp

@@89eberp I'd really keep your hands away from anything in there while the engine is running. You're better off pulling the belt and doing this manually.
