    For the younger folks: the "diy stained glass" is what the 90s kids called "window colour".
    After some time, it will not come off without a fight. Different temperatures literally burn the colour on the glass surface, it gets hard and is such a struggle to remove.
    Back in thr day they sold seperate transparent foil sheets to paint on. These were way better to get off the windows ^^

    Regarding the bin, that one has a foot pedal for hygiene and also potentially has a compactor at the top to shove down waste so that it doesn't have to be serviced as often. This also prevents rubbish blowing onto the street as it tends not to be overstuffed as easily. If they have that capability there's usually a solar panel on top and they also have a sensor which sends an alert when it's getting full. The technology is getting really interesting on these.
    Where I've seen them there's often an educational or artistic wrap added on top to help people easily see the bin and encourage responsible disposal of rubbish (although I'm not in the US).

    My sophomore year dorm in college was an old office building and it was the worst place I lived in my entire life. No windows in my bedroom, but there WAS an enormous boxy pillar that was in the middle of the room, making it impossible to arrange my shitty dorm-supplied furniture in any way that made sense, and a ridiculously huge bathroom that made no sense, which I bet probably had individual stalls once upon a time. I'm pretty sure the fact that my sleep schedule is an absolute mess >10 years after graduating college has something to do with the fact that I lived in that god-awful dorm room with no windows. I'm all for converting empty office space into affordable housing but it's so true that it needs to be reconstructed in a way that doesn't drive its inhabitants LITERALLY INSANE.

      Really think about how things are going to go after baby is born. You'll be too tired to walk into another room all night. Get a sidecar crib for your own bed. By the time baby starts using the room much she will be around 2 years old at the earliest. Decorate for a child not a baby. Maybe get a bed with a removable railing for later in there so it can transition from toddler bed to kid bed easily.

    • @annaleonard5340
      @annaleonard5340 Рік тому +9

      Yes! This is great advice. I would also add that a general guideline would be to put as little as possible in the room and only get things like furniture and even a lot of shelving as they become necessary for your child. I’ve found it a lot easier this way to fill with what’s age appropriate rather than having to remove and redo a bunch of decisions that were only appropriate for 6 months of my kids life.

    • @Ruth-tbk
      @Ruth-tbk Рік тому +7

      I know that putting together a nursery is so fun when you’re expecting a baby, but I agree with the advice already given! You absolutely don’t need one and you only really know what works for you once baby is here and you start getting into a routine. Also needs change so much within the first two years. We moved around all of the furniture multiple times and changed our a lot of things during that time. We only bought used or did DIYs, so it wasn’t a big financial issue, but we could have avoided all of the changes by just sticking with a crib next to our own bed and a changing table in the nursery and then adding in what we need along the way. You really don’t need anything else kn the beginning. Maybe storage, but I would advise that big wardrobes are really impractical for tiny clothes. Dressers are the way to go, but those may be impractical later on. All decorative items turned out to be completely useless and later when toys started to accumulate the additional decor made everything look so cluttered. I would only do wall art if I had to do it again.

    • @psyche8187
      @psyche8187 Рік тому +14

      You didn’t ask me, but as a mother of two I’ll say: decorate the nursery for mom. The baby will be pretty equally interested in whatever is around her/him. So plan a room that you love being in. It needs to be first and foremost functional (comfortable chair to feed with surfaces for items on both sides, room darkening curtains, changing table with storage for diapering stuff, diaper pail, crib, a monitor in the right position or optimal baby watching). And it can be whatever style you like. By the time she has an opinion it will be unicorns all the way down and it will no longer be a question of decor, but of her personalizing her own space within reason.

    Interesting on the arsenic. William Morris (yes that famous still around William Morris) was the creator of the green using arsenic. When it was discovered that it was the wallpaper and other green items killing people, William Morris spent tons of money hiring ad people to deny, deflect, and defend their killer wallpaper. They never owned up to the dangers of their product.

    I don’t associate Matisse with squiggly lines or pastel colors. And this horrendous design aesthetic is, in my eyes, quite far removed from his work and what it says.
    I get that in the past five years or more Matisse-esque knock-off “art” and design elements have been all the rage, but they are such a bastardization of the essence of his work as to be a whole other commercialized animal of another genus entirely.

Its going from pink gamer to dark purple maximalist,im so excited 🥰 i gave her either purple,teal or pink as the colour palette and she let me make her a moodboard and she loves it all so it makes my inner interior designer happy 🥰

    • @criticaloptimist
      @criticaloptimist Рік тому +2

      I can’t find anything online about why it was demolished, but I just have a feeling there are significant mold and structural issues with that cantilever over that water. Architects aren’t structural and environmental engineers, and sometimes the prettiest buildings just can’t compete with Mother Nature.
