I would argue for the opposite. Well, not exact the oppsite but something else. You can take the clean vocals as what he tells himself so he can keep going. The "i swear" scream is to solidify the statement. For example: "all i ever wanted to do was do right things, i never wanted to be the king". We know that this is not true, he stated many times that he will do anything to achieve his freedom, he's never been someone to consider the betterment of humanity as a priority. "all i ever wanted to do was save your life, i never wanted to grab the knife". This is also not true. He doesn't want to have a peaceful life. When he was a kid he said that he wants something to happen. He says that he wants to join the survey corps etc. He never shied away from getting violent. You might even say that he's desire is to fight for his freedom, not to achieve it
@@luceafarul5740 I don't think so! Eren wanted to live a peaceful life with Mikasa and his friends. He deeply cares about them. But deep inside he knows he must keep moving forward. That's why he never actually broke the cycle he just moved down it
@@luceafarul5740 you would’ve been right, if we didn’t find out that erens existence was planned from the very beginning. Our introduction to Eren shows him having a vision of the future. His life has been guided already. Without the visions, Eren would probably be a much sweeter person. But how would he have saved Mikasa if he was a sweet kid? Idk if we’ve seen his true self until the very end.
I think the most impressive thing about this song is the detail in the storytelling. The lyrics can be taken without the knowledge of the Attack Titan’s ability, and be seen simply as Eren looking at his past, and the choices he was forced to make, as well as his feelings now towards himself in what he’s doing and is going to do. But it can also be seen as him looking at what he literally forced himself to do by using the Attack Titan’s power, giving his past self glimpses of the future to give him ‘to grab a knife.’ And saying he can’t afford to die on his mission for freedom, ‘live to die another day. But that can also be taken as him knowing he may well die as a result of causing The Rumbling, but that’s the fate he’s chosen. I think it’s very clever as it can be understood without the latter context, but is just enhanced more with it
It can also be taken when he said “I never wanted to be the king.” As everyone looking on him to make the decision to save paradis. It’s crazy like you said the storytelling in every word in this song plays into the story of Attack on Titan.
@@wrestling1013 yeah, I have analyzed the manga a lot and I think Erens decision to start the rumbling was because of ho selfish desire for freedom and disdain that the outside world wasn’t what he imagined it to be, so he pushes his friends away because he knows that they would never agree with the path he’s chosen.
Eren is a reactive character, as much as he tried to be the active character, as much as he tried to be better, the world forced him to put aside everything, forcing his hand to make more and more difficult decisions, but once he has the power, the ability to be active, the one that forces the world to react, it's far too late, he's gone too far, he can no longer make a choice, other than the choice to die. He's no longer able to be who he wanted to be. He became his own wall, of which time had no control over, he was doomed from the start.
I see it more of Eren trying to justify himself. If we really look deep into his character, we know he wanted to start the Rumbling because of wanting to obtain his ideal view of freedom. The song is from his perspective, and when he says "I swear" it's like him trying to ignore that overall it's what he wanted to do.

05:00 Eren takes action to protect his friends. While others have morality keeping them from going "too far", Eren ensures that their enemies go down so that his friends are never threatened again. Him stabbing those pedo-human traffickers was him going Punisher style on their asses and handing out ultimate judgement so they never can escape prison and get to Mikasa again. Same goes for the Rumbling. He knew that the outside world would always see Paradis as devils and plan attacks against them in the future. So he chose the ultimate action to prevent that from happening and gain freedom.
I wrote it as a cm and then saw your cm so i put it here since i was talking to fans who have the same pov as you 😅 Sorry it's too long , it's fine if you don't want to bother reading it 🙏 The lyric is clearly from Eren's POV and we all know it BUT those lines " doing the right thing , never wanting to be the king , never wanting to grab a knife , it was only to save your life " are LITERALLY just Eren's excuses in his conscious trying to justify his actions by denying what he actually wanted from the beginning and his motives for doing so :) He NEVER wanted a peaceful life where he didn't had to grab a knife ! Remember the first episode , the scene he was laying down under a tree looking at peaceful sky ( life ) he had and he was thinking by himself sth like " this is boring , i wish sth huge would happen ! " Him looking for sth that considered " Exciting " in his POV was why he wanted to join the Erwin's squad or military forces in the first place , to run from that boring peaceful life so the titans and saving ppl were only mere excuses ! When he got mad at Hanse ? Well most of us used to think he was actually frustrated by seeing soldiers not being ready for protecting the civilians but if you just go deeper a little bit at the details you can notice he was only mad that nothing was happening and they could chill ... Also the scene when he attacks Misaka's kidnappers you can't say " he had no other choice and it was to protect Mikasa " since he did have other choices like waiting for his dad ( They weren't running away like in a few mins ) Ok even if we put that aside and say it was his only option for saving Mikasa , we can't deny the fact how excited and powerful he felt after taking down those guys by having that look on his face as if he couldn't enjoy it more ! Even blind ppl could see his hunger for power even before the main incident So ... even if the titans didn't break through the walls or Mikasa's incident didn't take place , it's quiet obvious that he would have still grabbed the knife ( it's a metaphor ) by finding another excuse to do so ... Just my POV tho 💙🍀
To me, the constant shift from aggressive tones to calm tones is a direct reference to Eren's mental state throught the fourth season, because if you pay attention he only demonstrate two emtional expressions, them being Rage and Despair. The aggressive tones represent the fog of rage that he feels most of the time, and the calm tones represent the despair the he feels when that fog clears and he's hit with the weigth of what he feels he has to do.
The violin melodies originally come from the series it self the first half of the violin melodies is the opening of the 1st theme ‘guren no yumiya’ and the second half of the melody is from the opening of the 2nd theme ‘jiyuu no taubasa’, so yeah it’s a clever mix of the first two opening melodies
Dude you really need to go on Jeopardy. The amount of random knowledge you have about any and everything is seriously impressive. Keep up the awesome work!
I am so glad Knox is reacting to Anime songs especially AOT S4 this song! It really portrays Erens journey from S3 pt 2 to S4 Finale to me of the realization and switch up of the arc so far. If you like this artist who sings this song you should try: SiM - Let it End Op for Shingeki no Bahamut S2 Love the breakdowns!
The way i've always listened to this song is the Clean is kind hearted loving Eren wanting to protect his friends while the Dirty singing is his Rage that we witness threw out the entire series. I Love this song so much and may have listened to it more than i should have honestly. Great Reaction!! Also you should react to the Ending, Very beautiful singing and the lyrics are wild
I really appreciate how you took the time in your reaction to discuss the lyrics and how you connect them directly to specific parts of the show. I really brought me into your commentary.
Probably the part that gets me the most is the x3 "If I lose it all" where the first two are gritty almost like a challenge issued to the entire world, showing determination, but the last one is softer, quieter, broken, as the realization that he has lost it all dawns on him.
All those lines are the foreshadows from the ending... "all I've ever wanted to do was do the right thing, I never wanted to be the king" -Armin, when he become the hero of the world when he had to admit he's the one who killed Eren Yeager "all I've ever wanted to do was save your life, I never wanted to grab a knife" -Mikasa, who just want the old Eren and save him but had no other choice but to decapitate him to free his's suffering and their cruel fate
Simply put, Rumbling is a discussion of the battle within every man. What you are , what you want to be, and what you must be. Adding competing minor and major chords, it really denotes the chaos one must pass through dealing with any serious decision. Life altering decisions.
You should react to the Ed of the same season “son of devil” as well, this song and the one you’ve reacted to goes hand in hand, it tells the difference side of the same story.
7:13 is it Dies Irae you're thinking about? It's lietmotif has been used for so many horror elements, but personally it reminds me of the Symphonic Metal artist Epica (especially their Consign to Oblivion album), whom Linked Horizon is a fan of. They worked with them to make covers of the Attack on Titan songs in 2018.
One “foreshadowing” I love about AOT and revealing the Attack Titan’s true power is that Eren revealed he can “go into the past” or memories and have an impact on previous Attack Titan wielders. But we’ve never seen anyone go back to Eren and try to change what happened, meaning either it was a foreshadowing of what will happen to Eren, or for people who don’t know, the clear cut answer would be that the future Attack Titan wielders agree with what Eren did. I mean, if he did succeed completely, then it would be going to someone on Paradis, someone Eren saved. If that’s how they view it then there’d be no point in going back. There’s a way to take this power into two different reasonable contexts and it leaves a lot of space for theories on which way the story would end - will Eren die, or succeed completely? Ofc we know how it ends, but prior to the end, or if you don’t know the end, then you’ll definitely enjoy this
Another amazing AOT song is Barricades! I also really like some of the other old ones like The Reluctant Heroes - Hiroyuki Sawano composed so many good songs for this show
i really didnt expect about attack on titan popping from your channel, and then this is the second time wow.. anw this final season is sooo good, so many twist, i cant wait for the end!!
I was so impressed by this song, the cord progression in the refrain just sticks to your head. I didn't think they would top the last opening, cuz I was singing that one through the whole house
I really absolutely *love* this song! I'm not a huge fan of heavy mental or death growling (I like it within reason which Linken Park and nowhere else) but this, What he's saying in the death growl especially in context of the series? Headbanger. Every. Time! Must play of full blast and sing along!
The odds of you seeing this this late is slim to none but if no one else has already told you, I'm pretty sure the tune you heard in the back was extremely reminiscent if not a straight reference to Hall of the Mountain King.
The screaming metal fits so well in aot with the rage the characters feel and the rage we feel. It truly encapsulates the hopelessness of their situation but it also shows how instead of just accepting their fate they’d rather scream out in defiance. I really like this song and it fits with the series so well!
i’ve never watched this guy and i love the song his reaction to it and his explanation on his thoughts of the lyrics made me think about it more and i love it AND his content :)
So the main composer for AOT is a man called Hiroyuki Sawano and he has to be one of the legends of anime soundtracks and you can tell when music is written/composed by him. Here are a few examples of amazing pieces composed/written (Contain both insert songs alongside openings/endings also songs are sung by a variety of different artists): Kill la kill soundtrack : Blumenkranz (Lyrics), Before my body is dry (Lyrics), Satsuki Kiryuin Theme Re:Creators : God of Ink (Lyrics), Gravity wall (Lyrics) Promare : Inferno (Lyrics) 86 : Hands up to the sky (Lyrics), Avid (Lyrics) Koutetsujou no Kabaneri : Warcry (Lyrics), Through my blood (Lyrics) AOT: Barricade (Lyrics), YouSeeBigGirl

I wrote it as a cm and then saw your cm so i put it here since i was talking to fans who have the same pov as you 😅
Sorry it's too long , it's fine if you don't want to bother reading it 🙏
The lyric is clearly from Eren's POV and we all know it BUT those lines " doing the right thing , never wanting to be the king , never wanting to grab a knife , it was only to save your life " are LITERALLY just Eren's excuses in his conscious trying to justify his actions by denying what he actually wanted from the beginning and his motives for doing so :)
He NEVER wanted a peaceful life where he didn't had to grab a knife !
Remember the first episode , the scene he was laying down under a tree looking at peaceful sky ( life ) he had and he was thinking by himself sth like " this is boring , i wish sth huge would happen ! "
Him looking for sth that considered " Exciting " in his POV was why he wanted to join the Erwin's squad or military forces in the first place , to run from that boring peaceful life so the titans and saving ppl were only mere excuses !
When he got mad at Hanse ?
Well most of us used to think he was actually frustrated by seeing soldiers not being ready for protecting the civilians but if you just go deeper a little bit at the details you can notice he was only mad that nothing was happening and they could chill ...
Also the scene when he attacks Misaka's kidnappers you can't say " he had no other choice and it was to protect Mikasa " since he did have other choices like waiting for his dad ( They weren't running away like in a few mins )
Ok even if we put that aside and say it was his only option for saving Mikasa , we can't deny the fact how excited and powerful he felt after taking down those guys by having that look on his face as if he couldn't enjoy it more !
If you like this artist who sings this song you should try:
SiM - Let it End Op for Shingeki no Bahamut S2
Love the breakdowns!
The intro song is amazing ! Love it, love your reaction too!!
Thank you!! Means a lot
Probably the part that gets me the most is the x3 "If I lose it all" where the first two are gritty almost like a challenge issued to the entire world, showing determination, but the last one is softer, quieter, broken, as the realization that he has lost it all dawns on him.
i don't really like metal but this song. this song is an exception.
2 years late here but metal is a wide genre you can’t dislike all of it it’s searching for what speaks to you.
All those lines are the foreshadows from the ending...
"all I've ever wanted to do was do the right thing, I never wanted to be the king"
-Armin, when he become the hero of the world when he had to admit he's the one who killed Eren Yeager
"all I've ever wanted to do was save your life, I never wanted to grab a knife"
-Mikasa, who just want the old Eren and save him but had no other choice but to decapitate him to free his's suffering and their cruel fate
The story telling in the song is beautiful, the vocals, and the beat is so hype.
4:38 "I think we all shoulda seen the writing on the wall and the foreshadowing there"
-basically everyone throughout attack on titan
Ofc we know how it ends, but prior to the end, or if you don’t know the end, then you’ll definitely enjoy this
there are no attack titans after eren
Another amazing AOT song is Barricades! I also really like some of the other old ones like The Reluctant Heroes - Hiroyuki Sawano composed so many good songs for this show
I am surprised that this opening song is being broadcast on the public broadcaster "NHK".
I think "Attack on Titan" is such a special animation
Have blacklist, love it. Thanks for this reaction.
The riff is just out of this world. Great analysis and reaction as always.
Usually I would be pissed about spoilers but I’m to Busy listening to this banger of a song
If you go further into the manga, this song would literally be if Eren had a band.
This video/song is exactly why I'd love to see Knox react to rock music, break it down, and analyze it
i really didnt expect about attack on titan popping from your channel, and then this is the second time wow..
anw this final season is sooo good, so many twist, i cant wait for the end!!
I was so impressed by this song, the cord progression in the refrain just sticks to your head.
I didn't think they would top the last opening, cuz I was singing that one through the whole house
'grab a knife' essential references blood on your hands, which means that he never wanted to kill people to protect those he loves
"out side the walls, live to die another day" thats exactly whats the show about
do you know how rare it is to find someone who already read the manga but is not caught up with the anime?
Your breakdowns are always on point man, you're incredible!
I’ve been jammin this song for days now! So cool to see your reaction!
I really absolutely *love* this song! I'm not a huge fan of heavy mental or death growling (I like it within reason which Linken Park and nowhere else) but this, What he's saying in the death growl especially in context of the series? Headbanger. Every. Time! Must play of full blast and sing along!
When I first heard this song, that minor melody has always reminded me of "In the hall of the mountain king"
The odds of you seeing this this late is slim to none but if no one else has already told you, I'm pretty sure the tune you heard in the back was extremely reminiscent if not a straight reference to Hall of the Mountain King.
Thank you for great reaction! Love from Japan!
The screaming metal fits so well in aot with the rage the characters feel and the rage we feel. It truly encapsulates the hopelessness of their situation but it also shows how instead of just accepting their fate they’d rather scream out in defiance. I really like this song and it fits with the series so well!
i’ve never watched this guy and i love the song
his reaction to it and his explanation on his thoughts of the lyrics made me think about it more and i love it AND his content :)
This is why I prefer Knox reactions, One of the best Reactors out here in UA-cam that can Disect a Song Cleanly and neatly.
So the main composer for AOT is a man called Hiroyuki Sawano and he has to be one of the legends of anime soundtracks and you can tell when music is written/composed by him. Here are a few examples of amazing pieces composed/written (Contain both insert songs alongside openings/endings also songs are sung by a variety of different artists):
Kill la kill soundtrack : Blumenkranz (Lyrics), Before my body is dry (Lyrics), Satsuki Kiryuin Theme
Re:Creators : God of Ink (Lyrics), Gravity wall (Lyrics)
Promare : Inferno (Lyrics)
86 : Hands up to the sky (Lyrics), Avid (Lyrics)
Koutetsujou no Kabaneri : Warcry (Lyrics), Through my blood (Lyrics)
AOT: Barricade (Lyrics), YouSeeBigGirl
omg i’m so glad he’s reacting to this yay
I didn't expect the Reggae part that was hilarious and cool at the same time..
Favorite part
I saw these guys live a couple months back! Their energy is phenomenal and we had such a great time
i really love how you appreciate the song and understand the meaning of it through the story of eren. And yes , i think rumbling can potrayed how we feel throughout the anime.
I listened to this song for 7 hours straight on loop while I was doing some writing, and you'd think after 7 hours it would have lost its impact. No. The drop still hits me in the gut every time I hear it.
I love this song. It makes me feel like this could be a System of a Down Song with different vocalists, and this is the biggest compliment i could give to the artists because SoaD is in my opinion the King of this Genre of Music.
Your comment got stolen
@@thighgraine lmfao that's just sad man why tf 😭
@@thighgraine damn hahaha, but its fine. Its a comment after all, i dont make money with that and the opinion i have about this song or SoaD gets spread even more. Sad that people do that, but yet i dont seem to care 😉
@@A_Tyson fair enough, just thought it sucked because it was one of those weird bot accounts
anyways, that's about it, have a good day mate
i mean i’d put this genre as metalcore tbh, so i’d say this gives me ADTR vibes, like down to the screams, you should check them out
Earliest I've ever been. Looking forward to Knox singing along.
ever since the full version released, ive been listening to it like 5 hrs a day? without interval between u-u
You need to react to the outro video/song from this season. The lyrics with the visuals are absolutely beautiful and destroying if you know how everything ends.
that rumbling voice is one person
7:19 Grieg-In the hall of the Mountain King
I absolutely love that they released the full version of this song the day they aired the episode where the Rumbling starts.
You should listen to opening 6 "My War" full version, expecially a version with lyrics since it's in part Japanese
This song is absolutely fantastic. You should take a listen to "akatsuki no requiem"(Requiem of the Dawn). Or the ending for the final season part 2 "Akuma no Ko" (Devil's child)
First person I’ve heard actually mention the knife reference. Thank you lmao
This the most perfect how to describe this song since he is a singer itself, musician, and aot viewers
This masterpiece will brake the internet ...
bro this is the best fckin detail reaction i've ever watch.keep it up broo
Maybe the melody of the guitar you wonder about is Dvorak 9th symphony mvt.4? quite similar
The song starts great but the moment that “if I lose it all” hits
Mmm chefs kiss
well actually The Sim invited in Knotfest way back in 2016 by Corey Taylor himself after they play "creep" in Japan, Corey play that song with Sim
Loving all the anime reactions...
I love this song!
Also....patiently waiting for the conclusion of the Dema trilogy ❤
The best part is the stop at the end when it starts up to the the slip and fall
If I’m not mistaken I think the lead singer read the manga and specifically came up with this banger! So I’d say you are spot on with your analysis
Title of this video: *THIS IS ANIME?!*
Me being an weebs and anime lovers: Yeah, this is anime and the song is based on Eren's view and perspective
Anyway, this opening is still *RUMBLING* on my memory for the third part of final season
the violin are inspired by "In the Hall of the Mountain King" imo
Thank you for that reaction!!! I love it!
Right now I have 3 songs playing on repeat. Rumbling, valorant’s die for you, and Alan Walker’s All Fall’s Down
This song is now on #1 at billboard hard rock chart❤❤
Also eren never attacked marley before the declaration of war in the previous part of the last season
