As a woman. I loved Hawkeye from 1st episode watching it with my dad in the 90s as a kid. I've seen all episodes at least 100times n it never gets old.

Idk why but there’s something about Potter being serious telling Pierce to “Fire that weapon!” and Pierce makes another joke saying to the gun “You’re fired.” And that tone that Potter says “That was an order, Pierce.” He just sounded so resigned and confused at the same time. Idk why but I found it funny
Part of the reason Potter sounds so resigned in that clip is that he and Pierce were drunk at the time.
Never knew Alan Alda is a veteran of the United States Army Reserve and served in Korea. Like Jamie Farr, US Army and Mike Farrell, US Marines.

Love this show. I’m indebted to Hawk for my sense of humor. My wife’s family always gets a kick out of the wordplay I use, and it’s all from this show.

Alan Alda won 5 Emmys and 6 Golden Globes for his work on "M*A*S*H"
He certainly deserved them.
My grandfather showed me mash when i was 7, and i instantly fell in love with the show, at first i loved it bc of the pranks and jokes, but as i got older and more mature, i came to appreciate how hawkeye and the crew had their more rouching moments, my favorite one was how charles defended private palmer, the kid who had a studdering problem and was called a dumby for it, and gave him his copy of moby dick, and then you realized it was personal for charles because when he listens to his sisters recorded message to him, she had a studder as well, it was one of my personal mash moments that were serious

Hawkeye was definitely my favorite character. I also thought Alan Alda was a very handsome man when he was younger-it's one of the minor reasons I got into this show!!

My dad, a korea and vietnam vet, for all of hawkeyes flippant, hilarious humor, my dad absolutely admired pierce for his dedication to his craft. My dad spoke nothing but praise for Mash units. This show helped us bond.

I watch an episode or two just before bed. I've seen them so many times I don't need to look at the screen. I can see it with my eyes closed.
My beautiful grandmother of 76 passed away while they were watching an episode of MASH at 730 at night, my grandfather asked her if she wanted a cup of tea and she looked up at him with almost a glow to her .was so beautiful (that's what he told me he was thinking) they were watching every night ... while he was out in the kitchen making her a cup of tea (on my moms, their daughters birthday was this same day..., she passed away in 2003 at age 36 from heart attack) and he heard her say his name very gently. , He went around the corner to the living room to see what she wanted and she was already gone just like that. Her Hands still warm as he held them, 58 yr marriage. She also passed away from heart attack.
I’m glad she was able to die while doing something she liked. I’d like to die laughing, myself.

Maybe the greatest TV character of all time.
Little known fact about radar, he has a deformed left hand that he keeps covered up as much as possible, you can sometimes catch a quick glimpse of his very tiny fingers. He’s always holding a clipboard or something. Hand in pocket etc.. I love him so much and he’s one of the best drummers to live!

Love this show. Grew up watching it with my dad (I especially remember watching in like kindergarten through 4th/5th grade.) Holds such a close spot in my heart 💚💚
Laugh track is such a disservice to this show
The producers didn't want it, but the network did. They compromised by not using it in the OR scenes.
During the shows run they did drop the laugh track or made it so it was not featured so often in later seasons especially in the operating room scenes.
The DVDs give you the option to kill the laugh track.
You can get the remastered version of it with no laugh track.

Imagine this....the final episode of MASH....Hawkeye hugs BJ...gets on the chopper....we see the big "GOODBYE" BJ made out of the rocks.....the chopper lifts off....Hawkeye leans back in relief that the war is over and he can finally go home....then....words come across the screen seconds later saying "Hawkeye was killed when his chopper crashed 15 minutes later".....can you imagine the national shock/outrage/sadness that would have resulted to end the show that way?....what would people have done in reaction afterward in that pre social media age???

Yes good observation, but I think Groucho was mostly unscripted and usually slapstick funny, Alda was always scripted and I never thought those one liners funny. Alda' s scripted "laugh" has got to be of the worst acting ever seen.

I didn’t start watching mash until I was a teenager but I believe when my mom was pregnant with me she watched it constantly and I picked up the sarcasm and humour of Hawkeye Pierce I think all kids nowadays should watch mash with their parents so they know about comedy and tragedy

Alan Alda isn't known to be the most liked person in real life, though that's just what I've heard and seen on social media (I've never met him myself). Still, many people contend that he will not give autographs, and he can be rather snobbish at times in the real world. Once again, I've never met him, but merely repeating what others have posted about him on social media.

I’m the episode Hawkeye looses his sight, “out of sight out of mind”, hawkeye asks if he can keep his nickname since he can’t see, that’s how my cat Hawkeye got his name. He had to burrowing flys in his head when we rescued him and his 3 sister and they all had horrible upper respiratory infections and eye infections on top of the fleas and flea dirt that completely covered them. They all got better and I kept my boy obviously and my grandma has his look alike sister Socks and a school TA has the white sister Shelby and our mail carrier has the patchy sister named Fiona. Hawkeye never got all his vision back to 100% bc of the flys. He sees shadows most of the time and unless he gets really stressed his eyes won’t dialate to help him see better like they should. He also learns and understands things at a decreased speed which is why I kept him. I didn’t want to risk him not getting the patience he needed at a different home and/or being bullied by other pets in the house as I knew mine would be kind to him.💙💙💙

You know what I realized, in this mash series. They let their actors age gracefully. Over the years Alan Alda collected his share of silver locks. You dont get that anymore, remember sitcoms luke Buffy vampire characters, Friends stars…they dye their hair keep them in their 20s as long as possible!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn't a sitcom. Also, the human characters in the series were supposed to be young and then there's the whole issue of vampires never aging so obviously actors playing them would have to have things done in order to look the same.
