I see you have the UA-cam “experts” figured out , I love it man it all comes from them watching the DIY channel HGTV makes them experts and like you said couldn’t hang a picture.
Hey, as a handyman man I resent this comment. I get paid to do fun stuff other people are afraid to do daily. Don't encourage this. 😁 Looks awesome man. I like you.

This stuff is extremely insulating. Closed cell will provide on average 7.5 r value per inch of thickness. Both canisters you see here look like the 600 board foot version for closed or 1200 for open cell. Open cell can do about 3.4-4 r value per inch. Not recommended for roof tho. You'd want closed for that. Depending on where you are. 3 inches of closed cell would be enough for your walls. So these two canisters would yield around 200sqft. Aka expensive AF
Note: on average they go for around $500 for what you see here
I thought they were the 600ft canisters that cost between 600-700$

How to piss off an electrician an plumber all in one video.
Literally was recommended to use spray foam by the plumber lol

I live in Texas and have r-15, r-19, r-30 fiberglass roll insulation & blue board i installed and everything sealed correctly to avoid a hoist of problems like moisture to prevent future rot, and my attic stays around 70°s & 80°s on hot 100°+ summer days. Also its quick and easy to install, remove, replace or get access if work or repairs are ever needed to be done. The foam not so much. The fiberglass insulation isn't as messy, restrictive in multiple ways, pain instilling for repairs replacements and installing, or even take close to as long during the installation period. As long as it's installed correctly and is the correct type, rating and size for the occupied space it not only does the job, but performs and holds up just as well as any other products including the foam shown in this video.
I would recommend installing baffles between. I wouldn't recommend the spray foam, also this kit costs almost the same as having the spray foam installed including materials... but it isn't my house looks good from here
I get different climates and whether you'll be heating and cooling the area change the installation process but anyhow love you my dear friends Don't you attack me unless you plan on really sticking it to me good.

Actually its really not that hard to do the electrical work its hard to make sure it all looks nice professional and to code
Once you figure out how to identify hot neutral and ground for the wires and the attaching side it all comes along easily unless your doing industrial work
@@TheTinkle1 & if you have to figure out what size of wire you need to use for the length of run that will let the equipment that you're supplying run at its peak performance. Other than that, ya the hardest part is making it all look fancelike! 🤓😎🤙🏽🤙🏽

Easier and less costly to hire a company unless you've got nothing but time on your hands. The kits costs almost what I charged (labor and materials).

What's the cost for the 2 tanks and hose and spray gun¿? Also, how much Square Footage can those 2 cans cover¿?
$1200 + tax, and 600sqft of 1inch of only R6, basically just for wind insulation.
ikr... i rather buy rolls of r30-60 for ~$1 per sqft.
plus if youre doing it yourself i can imagine one day youre gonna be regretting spraying adhesive everywhere all over your house.
From my experience, it cost between barely less to slightly more than having a professional do a better job.
It runs $1100 for everything which is roughly 20% of what a contractor would charge you and it seals your house unlike fiberglass insulation.
They have different size sets, but people think they are able to cover 200 to 600 sf and that is only at 1" if you get the full yield they advertise and you don't
Where did you order those from I want somw of em
Tiger Foam.
Never put insulation next to roof decking. Need to install baffles first for proper air circulation. THEN, use spray foam if you want.
If your going to heat and cool the interior space as in this example you apply it as shown. Also there are very different methods of applying vapor barriers and insulation in different climates you don't do the same thing in North Canada as you would in Hawaii.
I was wondering how you would do this with shingles on a roof
If your HVAC unit is in attic you should insulate that space
Don't have to ventilate a "hot roof" partner....
Baffles are only needed if you have soffit venting. If it's going to be a totally enclosed space this isn't an issue.
Wow you made it look easy, great job. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did the kit cost and covered sq footage? Thanks
Where we can buy these
@shpoon how much area does one set cover?
good job but make sure is done correctly cuz even professional people had done wrong by not getting the right mix ratios and temperature, foam is really great on keeping r value but it's a double Edge knife, Current spray foam mixtures containing formaldehyde can produce the airborne MDI against which the EPA warns. Such chemicals can cause cancer and contribute to unsafe air quality.
As a plumber we hate when they do this because if you ever have a leak witch will happen, we will have to open more wall costing you more money. Could be leaking from a tee or a line or a fitting.
Lots of plumbing is hidden in the rafters eh?
@@tech5298 in some states yes. When I lived in Texas there water heaters were in the attic. So eh

Yah here in kommiefornia there are heaters in the attic too. I sprayed the ceiling in my own house, just the living room, before adding a ceiling. I basically took a vaulted ceiling made with 2x4’s - very thin and very hot, and added another, lower ceiling and enclosed w drywall. It was far cheaper than tearing down. No wires or plumbing in the 2x4 rafters though. I’ve never seen stuff routed up next to the roof. Never.

Awesome video, thank you so much!
Is it a good idea to spray directly on the backside of the roof slatting? I was told there needed to be an air-barrier between any insulation and the underside of the roofing wood to allow for air ventilation and to reduce/eliminate sweating/condensation.
Absolutely best to be direct contact with closed cell, this prevents sweat, adds a massive amount of strength, seals air leaks and no dust. I built my last home with this and will never go back to conventional insulation. There is no comparison if you live anywhere temps are extreme.

Ya, and make sure to spray all the wire so it can never be traced or things be serviced...o wait, all the foamers Already do that....
Haha had me the first half 😄
I was gonna say that. I've had to find one pipe end in a 35 foot high, 25 x 60 foot entirely spray foamed (1 room) building.
Had to have the plumber come out and point in the general area.
Turns out it was about 15 feet off the ground. 😆

Red paint where the wires are or use conduit for future repair
How many times do you need to go back and fix wiring on new homes or remodels?

now that i've seen this video, i am also an expert
That stuff keeps dryrot companies in business. A small roof leak gets trapped in the foam like a sponge. Super efficient insulation though. Good video

Had my trailer roof done, only had to paint it once a year, lowered the temperature 15-20 degrees it was great
Should only have to coat it every 5-7 years.

620 feet at 1" thick... so realistically like 400
What brand do you use? I have these insulation sprays I can wholesale them for cheap for yoy
Insulation is incredible. Had my shed done ✅ but it off gassed formaldehyde for 3 years.
How do you stop that in your house?
Must have been fiberglass to off gas formaldehyde. Closed cell foam will off gas of its life. Open cell foam off gases when applied thus open cells.
Jeez all the karens this stuff is fire resistant as it gets older it actually burns less the molecules shrink and less air bubbles it will reduce size by a quarter they would not sell it if it didnt work or last the new homes that are being built have this in the exterior walls and ceiling its the same stuff the professionals use one a smaller level its the best most efficient way to insulate a home
Best way to give yourself a disease as that foam is somewhat radioactive like asbestos
Froth packs are junk and designed for patching small areas and such not doing big jobs. These do not properly mix the foam or get a proper reaction like an actual Graco pump and reactor do. I sold these things when I sold insulation and they are for very small jobs/patches.
I hate to say it but if you have a large area to spray, it's cheaper to hire a outfit to do it .those small kit are expensive.
Yeah 86 froth packs later
Yea I was wondering the cost compared to regular drop in insulation
Yeah. It is kinda BS how expensive this DIY is...
@@skythunder4413 They running about 1.80US per sqft at 1in thickness (per board foot) on Amazon.
Professionally installed is probably a bit less, but may not be where this fellow lives. The foam costs more DIY, but you aren't paying someone else. The evenness and therefore sealing of a professional install is much better though and they are liable if it goes wrong. So there would have to be a good reason to do it yourself.
Often people use this for the sealing, and then use batt or loose fill for the rest. It's expensive, but the seal cannot be beat, it also makes the house stronger.
Yeah plus you don't get nearly as good of a product with Froth packs.
Great job

From all the people I’ve talked that has spray foam love it, sure you can what if everything like , what if I get a leak, well what if I don’t ,don’t believe all the news you read talk to people that have it then make your own decision.
Why do people use foam in the US?
We normally use rockwool or some other brand of mineral-wool. A Moisture barrier/water barrier, then 200mm (8 inches) of mineral wool, a second vapour barrier on top of the wooden trusses, then some 2" x 3" wood and another 3" of insulation in a cross-pattern over the first one.
After that - cement board or dry wall over it.
That is how it is done in Germany/central Europe most of the times.
does not burn, non-hazardous materials - relatively cheap - easy to DIY and most importantly it lets SOME vapour through - it is not like "sealed".
In my opinion far superior to any foam...
But I am very well willing to learn the advantages of foam!
Because hard dense foam can be both a vapor barrier and insulator in one. It has the additional benefit of expanding into cracks and holes to make an airtight seal. It also bonds to wood or metal making it ideal for metal structures such as garages or barns.
@@BigScaryDragonGaming hey, just a fellow german here with a question :)
so where does the vapor from the inside of the house go? it will just be stopped inside by the foam and condensate wich in turn can harm the load bearing structure or the interior layers. it has to go somewhere…
that’s why we choose materials that deal with this and make each layer (in the outside direction) more permeable to vapor wich in turn prevents condensation INSIDE the structure of the roof
I honestly don’t know how you solve the problem or if it is addressed at all
@@goddamn8958 excellent observation and you are correct. Homes with spray foam insulation require HVAC units with a mechanical air exchange to ensure the inside air does not become stale. When done correctly it can be very effective because you can control exactly how much outside air comes in and when rather than it leaking in all through everywhere. I would suggest you Google the topic to read in-depth far more about it than I can explain here.
Edit: Reading your comment again I think I understand your concern is actually trapping water between the spray foam and the roof itself? As long as the roof isn’t leaking this shouldn’t be a problem and you actually have the added benefit of the spray foam preventing condensation from occurring on the underside of the roof.
@@BigScaryDragonGaming Thanks a lot for explaining it. That makes sense!
I also share the same doubts as "goddamn" - my fellow German ;-)
Engl. I suppose that Air-Circulation is achieved via automated HVAC system?!
How do you guys deal with moisture/vapor, if the foam is watertight/airtight?
In most modern German homes a controlled and centralized ventilation system is installed - which causes a very well controlled humidity level and an exchange of air while keeing the heat energy of the used air and transferring it to the colder air from outside. We usually do NOT have ACs nor HVAC systems.
We usually have in floor pipes (hundreds of yards) and use water to transfer the heat to have a comfortable floor temperature.
Edit: dang - you answered while I was typing my comment hahaha
It's not that common really. Most houses use fiberglass insulation with a paper backing as the vapor barrier.
Bro I think it's time for a new respirator
The foam will just fall off with a little brush against it as long as it was sprayed with mold release before hand and a new respirator isn't just something you go out and buy they cost a pretty penny

Can you reuse the wood after sprayed?
@@J-Mac8 yes, but it’s not going to come completely off. Because it expands it tends to embed itself into the wood fibers. In general it’s cost of labor vs cost of material scenario for builders. Cost less to just buy new boards. If you want a more eco friendly alternative you’d go with rock wool insulation to get a similar R value. For air tightness you use a sealing caulk at each connection point. The main point of going with a spray foam system is to do a closed air system that uses an air exchanger to circulate indoor and outdoor air. If you don’t have an HVAC system that uses and air exchanger you can run into moisture issues.
Dude. Had to do that once. seeing as I'm a carpenter and never have to, I had alot of fun

There are better ways to insulate a house, like sheep wool. It's 100% natural and fire resistant. But more expensive and slow to work with.
Nah
@@DriftKingNL NO. the fiber fill companies want you to think that. lots of misinformation out there. There is nothing better than foam. look at what they use to insulate every refrigerator, freezer, cooler or window ac unit, companies know for efficiency and effectiveness nothing can compete with foam. 1 inch of spray foam is more than twice as effective as 7 inches of fiberglass. reason being is fiber insulation does not stop convective heat loss, and that is where you loose the majority of your cooling. most batts of insulation regardless of the type have a R value of around 2. after install due to it being nearly impossible to install without air leakage, and moisture absorption. while laboratory testing for R13. It is a bias test that favors the fiber products and does not account for radiant and convective heat loss. It sucks to admit.. But R value is a useless figure in the real world. running a bead of caulking between the studs and sheathing and leaving a empty void in the wall is more effective than fiberglass.

@@redeye118 yes, but you would like to go with a closed cell foam ie 2lbs closed cell polyurethane foam. It’s widely used in places with cold temperatures at least where I’m from in Ontario, Canada
If done properly, depends also on foam, if using half pound foam it needs to be at least 100mm thick and 2 pound foam needs to be at least 80mm thick. 2 pound would be better because of thickness of wall cavity, if in ceiling space you have the luxury to go as thick as you want. Think of it like an esky, if you cool or heat the house it stays cool or warm longer.

Some people just don’t evolve
And termites just blow through most of the foam to make new nests.
There's different types of foam for different applications. The fact that it stops airflow is a huge benefit over other forms of insulation. If you have a crappy roof, yes leaks can be an issue. That would be true of any insulation. There's downsides to foam, but theres downsides to the other types of insulation also. Let's not be so critical. I'm also a contractor, and that doesn't matter.
Is this the Tiger Foam kit? I have a ton of spaces I need to insulate, this would be awesome. I hate fiberglass itchy fluff!
Fiberglass needs to be banned
Thanks looking unto this as a future Career
Cuáles son los materiales ?
Is this good for the environment?
A lot of angles to look at on this one. One of them includes the transportation of things like fiberglass insulation. That's going to take up a lot more room on a truck and require more loads and fuel burned, tires, brakes, and so forth.
@@ProleDaddy so it's about the same cost as a couple of meat burgers ay
@@WhiteWolfos Wat?
Where did you purchase the foam kit
Lowes and Home Depot sell the kits
So... then the wood is sealed behind some type of plastic foam?
Love the movie magic to funny
What's the R value on the foam?
Depends on the thickness
