Apparently all that are dated 1915 are restrikes... since WWI was going on. Afterwards there was nostalgia for old dates... who knows if that's true but a good story. 🙂
You could hardly pick that off the table, it is wafer-thin! There's just something about it that I like, I think it might be the actual size of it. I have always liked that design as well. splendid presentation my friend, just wonderful. i would love to vote for the trade dollar next week.
Beautiful gold coins, it's great that the Austrian Mint produces restrikes of their historic coins I wish more countries would do this. Until now the only Austrian restrikes I have are the 8 Florin gold coin and the Maria Theresa thaler. Unlike the Maria Theresa thaler there should be no different restrikes of the Ducat.
I agree their color is outstanding. That teeny tiny bit of copper really does something to the color. The funny thing is that both the 1 ducat and 4 ducat is same thickness. Since the 4 ducat is exactly double diameter and area therefore is 4 times larger then in order to be 4 times weight it has to be same thickness - and IMHO the 1 ducat is already thin enough. I don't know how to date them. But just a few weeks back I bought a brand new 1 ducat that has proof like finish as well. For some reason the 4 ducat was more than 4 times as expensive even though they where both new straight from the mint. So IMHO it could very well be that the prooflikes are quite new and the matte ones are older. That IMHO makes sense because in the old days they didn't bother making shiny surfaces that is quickly worn off anyway. Instead they make tons of details and the ducats doesn't disappoint. IMHO though they're not quite up to the Danish 10 and 20 kroner from 1908 and onwards. You really should get a good preserved one of these and look at those very fine details. Wouldn't surprise me especially in the shield it's details that are on par or even surpasses the new 2021 Britannia. The shield has so many details and fine stribes you only see with a 10 or 20x loupe it's really amazing! So details wise modern coins are IMHO not that amazing but they can have very shiny perfect and very delicate surfaces! Probably not my last ducat - premiums are very low on them too - some of the best for fractional gold. Get the cheapest 1/10 modern bullion and compare it to the ducat. The ducat (at my local dealer, Tavex) is only 2 pounds more expensive but has 0,33 gram more gold and much better buy back price too. Being in EU both fulfills the "investment gold" definition so it's a no brainer for small fractional gold.
I have been tempted to pick up some ducat gold coins in the past, but not done so yet. I really like them. I vote for the St Helena trade dollar for next week.
I would love to get one of either of those coins. My grandfather came from Austria in early1900’s and grandmother from Hungary. at the same time. I never met my grandmother she died when mum was 13 and grandpa did not want to talk about it. He always said “You are American, you do not need to know.” What a shame.
Thin or not, Au always makes me saliv....slurp...hold on....😬 Thanks for sharing! I think I’ll stick with gold from my side of the pond for now, but Mmmmmmmmmmmm. 👌
BYB... I have been obsessed with this 4 Ducat coin ever since I first saw this video nearly two years ago... I hope to add one to my collection this month... Thanks for all your videos... When I go to your channel no videos are listed so I am a bit concerned about that... I am in Canada... I wonder if that is why... I have had a hard time finding your videos over the past few months.
It is a stunning coin for sure, love it! Hope you enjoy yours when you get it! I think what the problem with nothing showing on my channel page has been fixed, returning subscribers had no content to see, I have changed this now. Have you got the alarm bell on too - that usually helps a lot!
Recently I was shown a 4 ducat at a shop, but I did not want to buy it as it obviously suffered a lot. Its purity of 98,6% combined with its thinness and the shiny finish make it very vulnerable. So I decided to get myself just a new one from the austrian mint's webshop.
Hi, since few days I am a happy owner of 4 Ducat coin. On the side with Franc Ios on the mirror finished background there are visible wings (tips of the feathers) of the eagle from the other side of the coin. Is it on all coins like this?
While I've always been attracted to 1 ducat (and similar coins like swiss/french 10 franc) coins.... They look beautiful and the premiums are usually great (for fractional coins)... but, I've often found the fractional amounts (0.1106, 0.1867, etc..) harder to sell here in the US. Many (not all) people are just more comfortable with common factional amounts (1/10, 1/4, 1/2 oz)........
Are all the 1915, 1 ducat coins, restrikes? I have two and both of them have the more proof like finish. That satin coin has a whole different look. I wonder is its the real deal from 1915?
After 1857 the Dukaten found themselfs in the role as trade coinage.Therea are even early Restikes from the 1920s wiith yougoslavien countermarks. Restrikes of the Dukat hold 10% more Gold in relation to a modern 1/10 Ounce Coin for abot 5% more Fiat. The Material ist 986/1000 Au.
I'd be interested to see how much the Ducat coins are going for in the American market, something I think I'll take the time to check out. I liked the look of the one ducat better. The mirror effect just didn't seem to help the four ducat coin aesthetically in my opinion. I'd like to see the trade dollar next week.
Sorry to disagree. If you can obtain a 4-Ducat in perfect condition (i.e., with no smudges, etc., in its mirrored field), you will revel in the coin's outstandingly beautiful reflecting abilities! It has to be witnessed.
American English is, perhaps, not as precise.. the word is spelled with an A... I'm an American.. but I actually pronounce it with the A... like it's spelled
In Belgium you can buy 200 year old golden belgian/French/Dutch/Swiss/italian coins for 1-2% over spot at almost every dealer... 3% for a restrike coin is actually very expensive but anyways, I would love to see the mermaid coin next week
I know you love your gold coins, but this one is not to my taste. I much prefer the 50 peso gold coin, that thing is amazing. I think the 4 ducat is just too shiny and it looks, dare I say it, cheap? Then again gold is gold, so who cares right?! EDIT: Mermaid!
Apparently all that are dated 1915 are restrikes... since WWI was going on. Afterwards there was nostalgia for old dates... who knows if that's true but a good story. 🙂
I have to say the 1 Ducat is still one of if not my favourite piece of gold in my collection :)
It is pretty pretty isn't it!

The 4 Ducati size is very beautiful. I might have to get one.
I love how thin it is!
The Ducat is beautiful for, as you said, it's old world charm. But it just feels like a royal coin. For next week I'll vote for the Mermaid again.
Almost sliver thin. Great add to your collection my friend. Let's have a peek at the CSS bar please. You probably figured tat eh, LOL.
That 4 ducat is definitely thin. I like them both though. I may have to add them to my collection
Silver Mac You will be very happy with them, they’re my fav.
Beautiful and very thin ducat! I'll vote for the mermaid. Thanks for the show my friend.

i just bought my first ducat from tavex today! amazing details on them really.
I have been tempted to pick up some ducat gold coins in the past, but not done so yet. I really like them. I vote for the St Helena trade dollar for next week.
They are pretty cool for sure - I like them which is important! Thanks for the vote!
Another great video BYB thank you for sharing.. my votes for the mermaid coin!

Yankee Stacking At least get a 1 ducat, they’re amazing coins.

I liked the 4 and 1 ducat coins. They are very unique pieces. For next week I’d like to see the St Helena Trade Dollar
They are pretty cool for sure - thanks for the vote!
I Have The 1 Ducat I Really Like The Color Of The Gold & Got It Under Spot Price Using 10% Ebucks Offer
Always nice to get gold under spot!

They are very cool coins.- but yes, very susceptible to damage and bending. Glad you got a nice new one though!
I have 4 Dukat as well 1Dukat. Love it
I agree with the commenter below that 'duck-et' is the traditional English pronunciation (appears in Shakespeare's plays)
Hi, since few days I am a happy owner of 4 Ducat coin. On the side with Franc Ios on the mirror finished background there are visible wings (tips of the feathers) of the eagle from the other side of the coin. Is it on all coins like this?
Do you know if Hatten Garden ships to the states? I looked on their website but couldn't find any mention.
I think you talked me into getting one if I ever see one around here and my vote is for the trade dollar thank you for another great show
I would definitely love to have the 4 ducat in that 1 ducat finish. That would be perfect. Not a fan of proof finishes, especially on restrikes.
Amazing big gold coin...
Gotta go with SS’s maple leaf. 😍
Thanks for the vote!
Those are very thin indeed and with such a high purity can probably be easily bent. I am voting for Canadian maple leaf
how would you compare the weight to say a half ounce gold coin?
Just got one beautiful coin so happy
Nice coin, one of those might be a good home for a couple of months' worth of fiat reserves soon I think! The trade dollar gets my vote.

Love the ducats

i'm partial to the East India Trade Co. Dollar. The oriental inspired boarder sells it IMO

is it "duckett" or "duke cat" kidding amigo :-)
Whatever way to pronounce it, its a lovely coin!

I always thought it was pronounced ‘duckett ‘ not ‘doo-cat’?
depends on where you are from... ✌️
means the same thing
American English is, perhaps, not as precise.. the word is spelled with an A...
I'm an American.. but I actually pronounce it with the A... like it's spelled
It's du-kaat
PURDY!
Love the thin ones! Which other gold coins are thin?
That's a thin coin. I really like the Mermaid Rising coin, but I can see how it is a coin not for everyone.
I going for the trade dollar.
Thanks for the vote!
I have one gold coin 4 ducat original
My vote for maple leaf! Thank You for sharing!
St Helena, I'm interested in the history behind it.
Thaler. I think it’s a hard “T” like “taller”.
Yeah it's a hard "t"... Also where the word "dollar" comes from!
why its looks like silver?? where is the colour?
It looks like gold to me. But there could just be a lighting issue.
@@BackyardBullion agreed! must be the lights, just bought my self one !!! cant wait to get my hands on it.

Then again gold is gold, so who cares right?!
EDIT: Mermaid!
The old Venetian and Byzantine coins are very thin. I vote mermaid.
Nice gold..... trade dollar

Yes indeed I
An interesting coin but not my taste. The trade dollar next week for me.
Let's see those 1/4oz Noah's Ark coins
Is the large Ducat heavy? It doesn't look real. Not really interested.
I have 2 of the 4 Ducat's, and yes, they are heavy! :) (Both of mine EACH scale on 2 different gram scales at 13.96 grams!)
The Mermaid please 👍
Austria was probably not restriking any gold in the 1920s and 1930s, I can tell you that much.
Trade Dollar.
Thanks for the vote!
Its... waifer thin.
Being that thin, it would be fragile to be bent !
4 ducat is 917/1000
It is 987 / 1000 i think
It is 986

What?
