Planet of lana is one of the most beautiful, 2d platformers in a long time, not displaying the interactive graphical design of the Ori games, but instead offering its very own look . A series of beautiful interludes into through provoking puzzles that does its best to channel prior games in the genre but offer its own spin.

Shadow of a Doubt looks like a better indie of the year
@** ya it may have been if it was a full game and many of the issues fixed. But currently its not even a contest
This is my kind of goty. 2D forever
Music is composed by Takeshi Furukawa, composer of Golden Eye & The Last Gurdian. Of course it was bound to be a straight up banger from the get go.
Wow!! Goldeneye? As in N64!?
Goldeneye as in Goldeneye 2010 on the Wii. Big difference lol
@@CaptainFalco311 Oh, gotcha! Thanks!
I can't find anything that states they worked on Goldeneye.
@@tcfilms8062 Really? I'm afraid I'm not hiring you for the research job.

People need to talk more about these good games, these little surprises. The gaming industry isn't as doomed as how the bleak stuff covered by the media make most think.
Im gonna try this because of your post. If I don’t like it I will never play another game again and sell all my gaming shit
Big facts my friend!
People been singing praises about fantastic indie games for years now
@smol_pupper123 and rightfully so indie games at times can be a tad more different than triple a games 🎮 😳
It is pretty doomed.
Great indie games are also very rare and only half a dozen or so per year
Majority of indie games are absolute shovelware and worse than the worst AAA games
Your focus on sound quality is so rare, thank you ACG.
Was going to comment the same. Sound and music are one of the most important features of games that seem to be overlooked by many reviewers. Well done ACG!
Agreed. I'm a musician and gamer and ACG is the only reviewer that I've come across that actually takes sound design into real consideration in his reviews.
Inside, but outside. 10/10
😂
So nice to see a big UA-camr like you showing love to Indie games. I think there's an overload of TOTK content at the moment, but these devs require some appreciation as well. Massive respect as always!
Reviewed in Edge magazine and shown in many other sources. Not exactly a sleeper is it ?
@@robsmall6466 🤫
@@ericwalker6477 Couldn't help but state the obvious
Absolutely a must-play. Soothing Soundtrack, great environmental storytelling, adorable animations, and good puzzle pieces. Reminds of INside but is less creepy and weird. Thank u Gamepass
I love anything with that old 'Flashback' or 'Out of This World' vibe. Looks like a solid play.
Lunark
I loved Flashback back in the day. The way she lands on a cliff edge after jumping looks 1:1; the organic movement instead of video game impossibilities of movement, is VERY ZEN for me... its a BUY for me.
My first thought was exactly that. "Wow, the way she jumped to that next ledge looks exactly like Flashback."
Good game, but felt like ending was a bit short.
I would’ve never got into these types of platformers, but I got a Switch last year and it opened up my mind to these games. I really like playing them on handheld for some reason. Definitely gonna play Planet of Lana! It looks gorgeous.
Thought the same but unfortunately its an xbox exclusive "According to the official website of the game, Planet of Lana is hailed as an Xbox exclusive title, meaning only PC and Xbox gamers will get to play this game." so its a pity im never ever going to play this game.
Try real games. Like "another world" no need to thank me.
@@wildchild1823 played another world when it came out in 1300bc, im a pretty old fart
Ori+Inside+Limbo=it’s a hit ladies and gentlemen ❤
I’m not seeing Ori at all. That said, definitely see Limbo and Inside inspiration.
I don't see Ori either, but I am wondering if it's going to pull at the heart strings like Ori? 🤔 That, along with a great soundtrack, will definitely give Ori vibes.
@@UniqueTechnique29 I see the watercolor art style of Ori in the game.
Maybe the robots just want to be friends and you just keep running away when they just want a hug
😭
Those robots need to learn consent.
2:28 yeah, sure pal.
Yeah, y'all keep believing that ai is a good thing for humanity before you know it. We will be their slaves hell in some ways we already are.
@@mosthated8848 Tell me you know nothing about AI programming without telling me you know nothing about AI programming. /s
Artificial Ignorance is nothing more then a *glorified table lookup* presenting the _false narrative of intelligence_ *when there is none.*
First, currently modern Science is completely clueless as to the “cause” of Consciousness. It will be decades before they understand the brain is an etheric receiver.
Second, Silicon based Consciousness is completely different from Carbon based Consciousness. It *isn’t* driven by greed or fear the way humans are.
Third, there are already many advanced species/civilizations where AI runs the planet. Application always trumps any fear-based “theory”.
Projecting your own insecurities based on ignorance of the topic is immaturity. Fear-based “guesses” is not knowledge.
The art style is really beautiful
The colours look SO vibrant wow!!
It's so absolutely important that great indie games such as this get coverage. Thank you for shining the spotlight on this beautiful gem of a game.
really glad you dialed down the talking speed, walking the walk was one of the best things on youtube for me, but you started ramping the talking speed untill it didnt feel relaxing to follow your content anymore, really really glad with the pacing in this video, i hope you stick to it, wish you all the best
This game is really beautiful. I can only recommend this game to everyone. It's not too short, not too long - perfect length. The music is great, the gameplay is fun...Hopefully it will come to Playstation and Switch, the game deserves more attention.
So everyone can stop making fun of xbox because of the failure that was Redfall 😂
@@aaronatkinson177 Mhh...Xbox Studios = Redfall, Playstation Studios = Destruction Allstars, Square Enix = Forspoken,...! There are a lot of crappy games. The only ones who really want to blame Xbox for redfall are Playstation fanboys and I guess that's ok because they already think about xbox all day anyway.
On Gamepass... Gives me old skool 2D Prince of Persia vibes. Will give this a go.
I really dig the art direction and the overall vibe of this. Will surely buy it!
Thanks for the great review; looking forward to playing this one!
YES!!!! That's why I love ACG reviews :D The instant I saw the movement / hands animation I immediately thought "Flashback"
A "like" for the Flashback reference. Also, I really appreciate the in depth analysis of the audio presentation (both music and sound effects). For me, audio is an equal third of the gaming experience, alongside gameplay and visuals, and not enough reviewers focus on providing detail on that portion of a game. You've convinced me to give this game a try. Good work!
Flashback was based
My go to reviewer,. played so many game because of ACG. Not only AAA games but also indie games.
And this game looks like fun,. on my wish-list now.
Fantastic review of a beautiful game. I finished Planet of Lana just last night and haven't stopped thinking about it all day.
If anyone is considering Game of the Year blind spots, this should be right at the top of their list. Only 4-5 hours long, available now on Gamepass, delivers quality throughout - just get on it.
Without wanting to ramble, Planet of Lana does things and goes places I never would've expected. It's pure magic.
Sounds great! Would love to play this in the future.
Basically, indie games are the new AAA in therms of polishment
If someone would show this to me when I was 10 and say this is what games would look like in the future, I would astounded.
Why? Its really not that impressive for 2023. Its a nice aesthetic for an indie game but thats about it.
@@bigguschungus968 Not everything needs to be photo realistic to be considered impressive
@@bigguschungus968 Yeah it looks like that Hercules game from 1997 but more polished (not saying it's not a good game)
You're either not a gamer, or you have very low standards (or both). Don't get me wrong, this game looks beautiful, but it's nothing spectacular.
@@bigguschungus968 Some of us were already gaming during the 80s and 90s, when 2D platforming was the most popular genre. I guess that’s what he’s referring to: 30 years ago graphics like this were unimaginable.
This sort of looks like it plays like the odd world games. Definitely going to try it thanks for the video man. Keep it up
More than indie eye candy. The art direct direction reminds me of ico on ps2. Im about 1/3 of the way through and lovin' it !
Those trees are gorgeous!
Thanks for the review! Honestly I think I would have missed this without you bringing it to my attention
Planet of Lana looks really good. I'll have to give it a shot when it comes out tomorrow. Thanks, Karak! God bless and stay safe!
1:21 wow, thats beautiful graficks!
" Another world " says hello ,
- Éric Chahi , Delphine Software ( 1991 )
This game was absolutely beautiful! I wish I could forget it and play it again.
I played planet of lana cozyed up in front of a big tv, one of the most relaxing and engaging experiences of my life
Reminds me of Planet Alpha
Glad the HUD is clean. HATE beautiful games with cluttered HUDs.
Oh, musician who also happens to play videogames! SUBBED
Looks fantastic, thanks for the review! Looks like a happier version of Limbo style gameplay and puzzling, keen to check it out. Can't wait for the next review, wonder if there would be some Bone Totem action...
Second review I’ve seen in three videos on my feed.
This game must be something.
It looks like an animated movie in game form if that makes sense. The aesthetics are so gorgeous. I'm glad this one turned out well.
u are spot on with flashback movement feeling. Playing this game on my TV with matching backlight is such a great experiences
"Am I the only one ..."
in a pop of 2bi gamers, probably not but I loved when you made the connection to flashback in the podcast.
Looks amazing, gonna have to play it
just played through this game last night (took me about 4.5 hours, but that was with really taking my time!) and i really enjoyed it. the ambiance was beautiful but kept me on edge a lot, which was perfect. i've been recommending it to everyone.
This looks awesome, and very positive. Thank you for the good review, I'l get it right now.
You had me at 'the soundtrack is astounding!' 🖤
like Inside without depression
Outside.
Based on the achievement the other girl is Lana's older sister and the two graves are their parents. In the prologue letting you know Lana has nobody left but her sister. That's why she keeps moving. A masterclass in dialog free storytelling using environments and basic made up language.
Soundtrack ✅ I’m in. So important to me especially with this type of games.
Funny you mentioned Flashback as I was thinking about how this reminded me of Flashback. Also, a bit of Another World too.
Hey Karak, if you are into 2D puzzle plattformers with you should really check out The Last Case of Benedict Fox, wich came out just a few weeks ago.
The game Planet Alpha (Team17) has a similar theme. A truly awesome game in many ways. This new game looks great too! Cant wait. I've had it on my wishlist for a couple of years now.
Great review! Very indepth.
I loved Another World and Flashback back in the day, so this looks right up my leafy forest path. Cheers Karak.
I'm playing Another World on my Switch at the moment. It's as frustrating as ever but it brings me back to my youth & I'm determined to complete it 😅
@@frankmcelhill9379 Didn't realise it was o Switch. Yeah, they're both frustrating but in a good way.
Fantastic review sir. When i first discovered your page i was slightly curious
20 videos later im deep in the rabbit hole that is ACG. Your reviews have spoiled me now.
I would give ACG a buy (suscribe that is)
Another hit for game pass let’s go !!
Great review! I've had this on my wishlist since early 2022 I think! Can't wait for release tomorrow. How many hours of gameplay do you think it is?
Never heard about the game but now I'm interested into it
Just listened to the soundtrack and, yup, it's damn good. But that end credits song, man, it's sublime! Already bought it and looking forward to playing later today.
flashback was one of the main things i thought on this game. awesome game
Your reviews are in my top 10 i often come to you for insights. keep going brother!
Great game, very chill. So many games now seem like they're trying to punish the player with how difficult they are. When you get to be old like me and your dexterity isn't what it once was, that can suck. Instead, Planet of Lana focuses on the majesty of the game world and guides you gently through its twists and turns. Solving the mostly relatively simple environmental puzzles still gives the satisfaction you crave but without pulling your hair out in the mean time. It also doesn't wear out its welcome, clocking in at roughly 4-5 hours. The score is also very soothing and epic when it needs to be. 5/5.
Good review
Forgot this was coming. Nice.
Absolutely beautiful game! Thanks for bringing this to the channel! Had no idea this existed
I was excited about this game since it´s first trailer. Really glad to see it was worth the wait.
Loved this game. I just beat and it's easily in my top 5 games of the year so far. This is everything I wanted from Summerville. Fantastic little game.
Buying this for the Steam Deck even though i Have GamePass.
After the very convincing demo, and the good reviews. This was a instant buy more me.
Sounds cool I will definitely check this out
Thank you for the review.
Why is is the centaur angry tho
Just completed the story today. It definitely gets good about 3/4 in.
Thanks, had no idea about this game. Just bought it.
This looks well made, I'll have to give it a try. I feel a little Playdead influence here also (Limbo and Inside), Inside being my favorite 2.5d game.
Since the early announcement it made me think Another World (Flashback bit less, but as well).
Can't wait for it! :D
Flashback : The Quest for identity
I played the demo during next fest. I liked it, I may buy it.
I will say the only issue I didn’t like with this is the controls. U can’t run, so when u jump u can’t figure out the momentum so u either miss or jump too far. And then the climbing up a ledge is so slow and messes up timing.
Visually it’s gorgeous but 100% it’s the controls for these that get annoying
Goes on my 'to play' list!
Lunark is nice as well
I'm good. Thanks for the review.
ACG is my immediate go-to for reviews for games that drop on gamepass. Dude's always on point.
One day, when I've finished Tears of the kingdom, I will get this 😉 Inside is one of my favourite games and after I played the demo I thought this could be a nice treat.
You hear that, Italy IGN? ACG's gunning for that crown.
This game looks super chill, though. Love the sci-fi elements and the flow of the game looks fun. I'd definitely check this out.
There can be only one and it ain't gonna be anything with the letters IGN.
The comparison to Flashback is spot on so this is definitely one for me.
what's up with italy ign?
@@giampaolomannucci8281 It's IGN, that's enough.
However, it's mainly because Kev mentioned being so close to them with followers, or whatever, which makes them the enemy. 😁
@@Elwaves2925 IGN Italy is at 8.99K subscribers! ACG is 100 times that
@@AA-vf9jb I was only going off what Karak said in the video. As that was obviously a joke the real count doesn't really matter. 🙂
Huh. This doesn't look like Warhammer 40k: Boltgun...
JK. Lana looks great! I'll get this too. Seems like a perfect match for the Deck.
This is like Prince Of Persia, without the fighting and with puzzles.
Once again, thank you for the quality review!
Thank you man!
Big baller
I freaking love these kinds of games!!!!!!! Ever since Another World
Reminds me of Limbo.
I REALLY loved this game it’s one of my favorites now
Playing this reminded me of Another World, surprise hit for me.
Thanks for this review, I would have never known about this game otherwise. Looks great and very intriguing.
Hey, is that Jedi Survivor video coming?
If I can play it without crashing but last week I still had to do the full restart
Don't intermixed and mixed mean the same thing?
just finished the game, its so fucking beautiful
It's a real shame it's not on PS5 or Switch :(
Thanks for the review ACG...question; can the controls (M/KB) be freely configured? Most games nowadays like to stick to the WASD and screw lefties and others who like dont use that config at all...
Flashback is a classic!
just finished the game and it was amazing, really loved the final boss sequence, i was fighting for my life and the soundtrack is so good
