“Ricky shut up! We’ve been lost for 5 years now! I’m hungry and tired! I want to go home and see my family! So if you sing one more time I swear I will punch you in the face! OK?!”
vinney saint pierre ...I was in the Midwest & remember it being on before school (& I was sad when it was ending) & my east coast husband said he remembered Sat. mornings. Haha
Sigh......1981, to be 8 again...this song still runs through my head. Especially when I was younger, and I was at a theme park with friends or family. Whenever the word roller "coaster" came up, it instantly made me think of this show and that theme song. Now the song just pops up in my head every so often. Such a fun and memorable song, and show. Good times
I was 8 in 1981 too man in canarsie brooklyn getting ready for st jude school watching this in morning and I wanted to stay home with grandma lol man do I miss her and those days such a better time of place
WoooooooooooooooooooooooooooWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! I am 41and havent heard this in over 30 years till i just stumbled on it. A long lost piece of my childhood recaptured!!!
bigcheese1973 how about the hilarious house of frightenstein? did you ever see that one? it was made near where i live, southern ontario canada but they broadcast it all over canada i dont know if it played anywhere else
Suddenly it's 1981 and I'm 9 years old again...singing along with this theme song after so many years. Really brought me back! (And to think, this video itself is 17 years old at the time I'm writing this in 2023)
Im 37 years old, and i used to watch this show every morning during the early 1980's before the bus would pick me up for school. To this day the theme song sometimes still repeats in my head lol. Looking back i am thankful for growing up during a simpler time when not everything was a sellout, and not everyone was so self absorbed in their technology. It was also a time when parents knew how to parent, and kids were actually physically active. The great times are long gone, and its sad.
it was called being a kid, and if you think no parents know how to parent today, and no kids play outisde, then you are suffering from old man nostalgiaitis. don't worry. you're not alone. i suffer from it too
I'm 50 years old. I remember this show like it was yesterday. I would watch it early in the morning before I went to school. It was great in its own special way.
I always thought this show had the coolest theme song! It used to come on right before I had to go to school in 1st grade and I wouldn't leave till I could hear the friggin theme song. I'd be rockin out in front of our tv lol
A trip back to the 1980s. I remember watching this show as a kid. Great times. I hope that someday it come out on MeTV down the line. On DVD, I'll buy it. Lots of memories.
Holy cow -- I'd forgotten about this show! And, naturally, I was able to sing along with the theme song perfectly after not hearing it in about 25 years!
WOW... Whenever I heard this theme song, I knew that I was running late for School. I would end up running to the Bus stop... Lol. Thank you for posting this... Good Memories!! I am 48yrs old.
It's weird how very few people even remember this show. I loved it when I was a kid and as far as I know my peers did too but somehow this show slipped from everyone's memory.
My lost childhood memories of this show on WPIX 11 Alive (but unfortunately PIX11) It's bringing me so much memories . Now after almost 40 years , this show makes me feel like a kid again. Thanks for the memories 🍒♥️ Happy 38th Birthday Great Space Coaster. You brought back my toddler and childhood memories.
Maan i rem when i lived in arkansas this used to come on at 5am. I rem hearing the theme as we got ready for school. Yea im 44 school used to start early and get out late...we LEARNED STUFF . Lol
I LOVED THE GREAT SPACE COASTER! I wish I could get a GSC t-shirt. I loved Baxter who would literally fade away and disappear when things got to rough. Great message for kids, don't deal with your problems...just ignore them, lol! I WANT THIS ON DVD!
I remember very little of this show. I use to watch a lot of Polka Dot Door, Today's Special, 3 2 1 Contact, Owl TV, Emu TV, You can't do that on television.
"Stickball Sally, won't you hit a rally, knock one down the alley and win another game." - Random GSC episode. Dude, no Gnus is good Gnus with Gary Gnu. Old skool.
I used to watch this every day as a kid. The older tv shows, like this one, hill street blues, etc., had such better opening intro music in them then the shows nowadays.
Born in 72. This was one of favorite shows to watch in the morning right before going to school. I think growing up around that time I realize our generation was very lucky to have great shows.
Now this joint right here was a everyday regimen before school everyday!! I had to have been 5 or 6. Who ever found this joint to post it.....THANK YOU for arising such excellent childhood memories 😊😊
One of the few themes that I have always loved that is not in my collection. I barely remember this program in some respect and will never forget it in others. Roaring towards the other side where only rainbows hide!
I was in the second grade when "The Great Space Coaster" debuted in the Fall of 1980! It aired here in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida area on WTOG-TV 44 weekday mornings in various time slots from 7 AM to 9 AM! It was so much fun being a kid during the 1980's!
Wow! I recall it aired on TV53, later Fox53 in Pittsburgh PA. 53 ran syndicated shows & re runs until the late 1980s then slowly converted into a Fox station. 22 was the other main syndicated-tv rerun channel in western PA.
Suddenly, I'm back in San Francisco and it is 1980, 7am Monday morning, having a bowl of cereal and watching TGSC, while my mom is checking over my homework from the previous night. Fran, Danny, and Roy were all my favorites. I read an article that did a piece TGSC, about few years back...Fran still writes music. I think Danny became an actor on tv--doing guest shots--I was sad to learn that Roy had passed away. I thought Roy's mini flip-up television was cool. Predates what we have, now.
Just hearing this song reminded me of how much I loved this show. It does look cheesy now, but '79 when I was 7 I watched it everyday. Thanx for posting!
Family what? What's the crap I see about Family Guy? I remember watching this when it was being aired originally! And I don't need Family Guy to remind me of it either. Family Guy?? Bah. It saddens me that a garbage show like that even remotely mentioned this great memory from my childhood.
"On the great space co-"
"Shut up, Ricky! Just shut up right now!"
"Unless the next words out your mouth are directions back to the fish skeleton".

I'm 44. Used to watch this right before leaving for school--second grade. :)
it must have been different when it comes to time slot showings. Here in NYC, this show was on only Saturday early mornings.
vinney saint pierre ...I was in the Midwest & remember it being on before school (& I was sad when it was ending) & my east coast husband said he remembered Sat. mornings. Haha

Even if you aren't in your late 30's to early 40's you know what this show is. The 80's were totally awesome

Used to watch this show before school!
"The Great Space Coaster" What a genius name for a kids TV show.

I think later eps cut the 2nd verse, they grab 2 kids then roll to a stop. Not travel far...
if it wasn't for family guy so many shows would be oblivious to so many people
conformist yes, god bless Seth MacFarlane.
to an extent yeah, but mainly just because alot of us had forgotten seeing these shows on PBS when we were little

O M G. THIS is when TV was Tee-Vee!!!
Today's shows have NOTHING on us 80's kids.
Todays crap is just crazy flashy stuff that gives kids convulsions and gives them ADD.
Haven't seen this since I was a kid. Thank you, thank yo for the memories.
I loved this show lmao I sang along with it and couldnt believe that i remembered all of the words
I remember very little of this show. I use to watch a lot of Polka Dot Door, Today's Special, 3 2 1 Contact, Owl TV, Emu TV, You can't do that on television.
