I believe that she has written that some people will say you are worthless and effectively saying you are, "As good as dead to me." Her response is, "Hell no, dude. I'm alive, I'm dancing, and I'm going to pursue life with ten times the energy as you are!" She ends up breaking out in ritual dance and celebratory chanting. She is as far from a churchyard as she can get.
One thing worth noticing is that Aurora is doing one of her songs live in a radio studio. I've seen tons of artists take their product into those small venues and produce absolute crap. Aurora crates insanely brilliant sound that is actually better than on the record, and she does this miracle time and time again. I can name on one hand the times I've seen artists pull this off: Mandolin Orange, Larkin Poe, Little Hurricane. Alright, two fingers left. But, Aurora does it every single time, to the point where the only way to listen to her is live.

Aurora songs are always with meaning.... but she has several times said that she is so happy when people find "hidden treasures" in her music, things she did not realice when she wrote it.
I week from today I am seeing her live for the first time! In her home town Bergen.
Check out Through the eyes of a child from Nidarosdomen consert or it happened quiet from live at the current.
Fun fact: her biggest musical rolemodels are Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen!

Nice reaction! Definitely check out the lyrics - her lyrics are usually thought provoking and inspiring. The "churchyard" refers to the area around churches where people are buried so to be told you belong in the churchyard means you should be dead. Not a very nice thing to be told by someone! The words at the end are a kind of chant in (i think) a language Aurora invented as a child.
"He told me I belong in a churchyard
He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far
Tell me, how do people know what is hurt, what is love?
He told me I belong in a churchyard
    Words pointy like arrows
    Wounds no one can see
    He closed all the windows
    As his anger broke free
    I will not remember
    You as somebody nice
    Please, will you remember me
    And cry?
He told me I belong in a churchyard
He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far
Tell me, how do people know what is hurt, what is love?
He told me I belong in a churchyard
    Hate followed him gently
    Black seeds in his heart
Roots tearing the love in him apart
He told me I belong in a churchyard
He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far
Tell me, how do people know what is hurt, what is love?
He told me I belong in a churchyard"
Sounds like a toxic controlling relationship.
Please react to more Aurora - you won't regret it!

Churchyard means- in the grave- and the man in this abusive relationship wishes her dead. The chanting at the end is her spirit ghost returning from the grave and haunting him.

Great raction. Different is a great way to describe Aurora, not only musically, but as a person. She is very unique, talented, genuine, and sensitive. I hope you go down the rabbit hole because she has a lot to offer the world. She has released the meanings to songs but has said she doesn't like to because people find different meanings in her songs and she loves that. I'm not sure if those chants are actual words, she does that quite a bit to add a tribal feel to her music. She is very animated live, she gets lost in the music and her movements are very natural and spontaneous.

From what I understand, Churchyard is the Norway word for Graveyard. Kind of like an anti-bully song.

    • @RunarNyrud
      @RunarNyrud 2 роки тому +1

The Norwegian word is "kirkegård" eller "gravplass".
According to Google’s English dictionary ,provided by Oxford Languages:
churchyard: an enclosed area surrounding a church, especially as used for burials.
It might be that churchyard is the british english word and graveyard is the us version? Or the other way around?

    • @nerve60
      @nerve60 2 роки тому +2

Maybe European or Scandanavian, it's the word referring to burial sights. In the US we refer to it as graveyard or cemetery.

    • @ah2595

Churchyards (literally the grounds of a church) are commonly where graveyards are in much of Europe. At least that’s the case in Germany where I grew up.

  • @rosemay75
    @rosemay75 2 роки тому +6

Her lyrics are good to check out for sure. Always a deeper meaning. This is about someone abusive telling her she can leave but she’ll only end up in the churchyard (graveyard). And yes she’s rebelling against that.
I hope you explore this wonderful ethereal creature. She had made up words (or chants) to vocalise. But I always feel her music is spiritual.

Just came across your channel and I’m glad I did. The quality of this is top notch and you have a really nice voice to listen to.
As for Aurora…not to get overly personal but I found her stuff a couple years ago when my dad died unexpectedly and her’s was some of the only music I listened to for a good few months. It’s always weirdly deep to see other people listen to music you’re so tied to. Thanks for that.

    • @ah2595
      @ah2595 Рік тому

Oh, and I don’t know if you got around to pulling the lyrics and what you ended up getting from them, but I feel like it’s about an abusive relationship. Churchyard (like cemetery), “told me I could walk away but that I wouldn’t get far,” (you’re nothing without me) “how do people know what is hurt, what is love,” (intense behavior means he truly loves me?) “he closed all the windows as his anger broke free”, and some lines about his words pointy like arrows and wounds no one can see (abusive behavior behind closed doors).
I think part of the greatness of music is that it can mean different things to different people, but hearing about others going through that type of situation made it seem like a song about a bad dude from the past.
Sorry for blowing up your comment section with an accidental essay lol. Keep up the good work.

Auroras lyrics are always interesting, and her movements are just the way she’s feeling the music 😍
This song was inspired by domestic violence, she gets killed and in the end she comes back to haunt him
    AURORA:
Aurora is a Norwegian singer/songwriter/dancer and music producer.
She plays several instruments like piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of).
She’s born on the 15 of June 1996, she’s from a small place in Os outside of Bergen, and is currently living in her apartment in Bergen 😍
When she was 6 years old she found an electric piano in the attic after her older sister.
Because the power button was broken she had to play with only one hand, and she did that for years.
She began writing music without lyrics at the age of 6, and with English lyrics at the age of 9. A couple of her songs that she wrote at the age of 9 is some of her most popular songs.
They are “Lucky” and “I went too far”
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 13 - 14 years old.
She’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano.🤩😍
Could you please react to Aurora with:
“Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017
This is one of her most important songs
    “The Seed” official video
This is a powerful song and music video
    A cry for Mother Earth
    “Lucky” live from Nidarosdomen 2017
She wrote this when she was 9 years old, it’s her anti - suicide song

Here's another Norwegian born singer that you need to take the time to react to. Angelina Jordan, 16 today, has a "MUST SEE" cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You" (1956). I guarantee that you will not regret making this your next reaction. She will literally cause your mind to implode. At 9 years and 2 months old, Angelina arranged and performed her black and white studio cover of the jazz classic; considered by many to be a masterpiece cover of how Jay intended the song to be performed. There are 195 versions of the song performed by such greats as: Nina Simone; Manfred Man; Pete Townshend; John Fogerty; Annie Lennox; and many more. So the question is, how does Angelina Jordan come closer to the original than the other 194 great artists?
She did it by going back to the source, Screamin' Jay Hawkins himself. Her arrangement of music and lyrics honor Jay's work as close as possible, albeit by being performed by a tiny barefooted 9 year old girl. She can change up her performance on the fly. The notes she scribbles down at the beginning of the video are the lyrics you can see her referring to during the performance. Singing is simply organic to her. The candle she holds in the beginning has a picture of Jay on it, honoring (or perhaps channeling) him. If you haven't seen one of Jay's performances, I've provided a link to him on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1989. I recommend listening to Jay performance 'AFTER' your react to Angelina, even if you do it on your own time. Jay's is raw and very unconventional. After watching Jay, I jump right back to Angelina's cover, picking out how she adapted Jay's style for her own arrangement.
Vocal coaches can point out what Angelina's doing with her voice and body in great detail, but have no clue as to how this little 9 year old girl can so control her body produce the sounds she wants. I stress that you watch the black and white studio performance listed below, from her cover channel. She has performed the song since this time, but she has never replicated the vocal performance she gave here. Individuals have cited that Angelina was cautioned not to perform the song as she did here, as it had the real potential to cause permanent damage to her voice. As such, her later performances can't match this one. It's all the more reason to watch this unrepeatable performance. So this is a one-and-only treasure that you absolutely won't regret watching.
"I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" (Angelina Jordan cover, black and white studio performance) - ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html
"I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" (Screamin' Jay Hawkins 1989 performance on The Arsenio Hall Show) - ua-cam.com/video/3S7a4Uj2yME/v-deo.html
A favorite professional voice coach reaction to Angelina's performance can be found at ua-cam.com/video/uWohwiNmvnU/v-deo.html. I recommend taking a look at this one after you've completed your own reaction to Angelina's performance. This voice analysis reveals how even more amazing and unmatched Angelina's performance really was.
    Enjoy!
