When I was a grade schooler in 1966 -1971 my grandparents lived in Albuquerque, and we would go visit over the winter break. Two things I always had to do was go down to the station so I could see the Santa Fe passenger train come through, (Was it the Chief?) and go to the park and see the 2926. This is heartwarming to see what was a sad locomotive that was falling apart to return to her glory.
Absolutely LAST video I expected to hear Hopes and Dreams in. Quite a surprise but a very welcome one at that. Hope that the 2926 can get and do some serious running in the future! Would love to see that.

I had the privilege of standing in the cab when they were working on it and seeing their labor of love for their mission. Congrats to all the volunteers! Your vision has come to fruition!
Santa Fe 2926 is a handsome and massive "Northern" 4-8-4 type locomotive and a member of the ATSF 2900 class series, which are the largest/ heaviest type of 4-8-4 engines ever built. I am glad that I am able to witness ATSF 2926 return to operation again during my lifetime and I am eager to see this locomotive haul excursion trains. Hopefully this action will occur in 2024 and it will be an amazing sight to see footage of engine 2926 hauling excursion trains across the state of New Mexico.
Man... I still so look forward to the day when 2926 gets the chance to visit The Rail Yards (aka where the Santa Fe shops are) and of course the highlight of that: Stepping onto the Mainline for the first time in many years. :) Speaking of... when that happens of course... how many people (for of course railfans and non-railfans alike) will you expect when 2926 of course steps onto the Mainline? :D
IF that day comes. You've got a LOTTA miles on BNSF's oh-so-busy Southern Transcon sitting between the '51 and '26, and it ain't no coincidence that the 3751 has only ever run on the Southern Transcon three times in total ever since it came back into operation in the '90's.

Im guessing your asking about the clyliner-cock it is a group of valves that open on the bottom of the main piston cylinder. They allow steam and water to escape because water doesn't compressor so if there was water in the cylinder the piston could could blow up the cylinder. But the cylinder cock will allow steam to blow all the water out.
It'll be great, if the New Mexico Heritage Rail owns tanker trucks to provide Santa Fe 2926 with pumping water from their tanks into it's tender. They can be called "mobile water towers"!
y'all should try to get 5030 running again. having an atsf 2-10-4 return to steam would be great, since y'all would have 2 big steam engines from the santa fe!
The thought has come up but that loco is problematic to say the least. the condition it is in and the size and location of the locomotive would make it nearly impossible to retrieve. then the track in santa fe has been changed since the engine was placed in Perez park the curves and the hills have gotten tighter and steeper for railrunner and couldn't support a locomotive the size of 5030. But personally that is the one locomotive I would love to restore

Hearing Hopes and Dreams play while the culmination of all your team’s hopes and dreams rides on home is probably the greatest thing ever.
They used to call the NYC Hudsons "Thoroughbreds". But this girl is a REAL thoroughbred! Fabulous to see her under steam again!

Yes it should be able to but the question is could we find track that would allow it to run 100 miles per hour

No. The air compressor exhausts somewhere else. The cylinder-cock is for the piston that moves the wheels
