Great !!!!This the best video I have ever watched on refilling TN420/TN450 Bother Cartridges. This video explains clearly resetting of toner level gears. That is the most important part of refilling. I have troubles in resetting gears. I have learned and practice while watching this videos. Thanks a lot. Great job. It helps to millions of people around the world.
Since many years i tried what in several videos i didn't successfully made it, but in your video i follow and i made the rest for my TN 2260. Thank you bro.
still come back here every few years because I forget! suggestion for all: save to a playlist and name it something related to ink or toner! So you'll have this in the future!
Well lit, music almost inaudible instead of deafening and proper, clear, spoken instructions that make sense. All "instructional" UA-cam videos should use this as a template.
amazing simple video and since i kept all my RIP cartridges, I am reviving them all and it's amazing how much ink there still is in all of them Thank you so much for creating this video!!!!!
You do not have to go through all of that. Your printer has a websites setting in properties. go to the link and in settings and in (toner low) CHECK CONTINUE. It will come back and reset your printer to keep going on a toner low alarm. LOTS OF OTHER GOODIES IN THAT CONFIG SITE FOR YOUR VERY OWN PRINTER... Reply ·
I just reset as described the TN 2010 cartridge for my Brother HL-2135W which was supposed to be empty. Now the status page shows the cartridge again at 100% capacity and I can print again without any quality loss. Thank you again for this tutorial. I am feeling so ripped of by Brother who program the obsolescence into the cartridge without real consideration if it's empty or full. Will report back with the number of additional pages I was able to print without changes the cartridge.
thanks for this - other guides seem to ignore this critical step. I've even seen one that just says "set the gear in the correct position" with no detail or close-up, and completely ignoring the inner gear.
This was a great tutorial. My printer, MFC-7360N, continued to tell me it was low on toner. I performed the following steps to tell the printer that it has a new toner cartridge. Open front, press CLEAR, ignore the instructions for telling it that you replaced the drum and instead enter *00. That will tell the printer you have a new cartridge. Error message about low toner went away. That guy has a great Alabama accent. 😉
Thanks for the HD video and the attention to detail! -This made me confident the gears were in place for my TN-450 cartridge! Had to cycle power and try the keypad sequences a few times, but the LCD display finally cleared the toner low message. BTW - it may seem like the big gear at the left side (when looking from the side of the cartridge) is jammed, preventing the gears from rotating, but that must be okay since it worked fine in the printer.
Dan Keys, there are also instructions for telling the printer that you have a new toner cartridge. Open front, press CLEAR, ignore the instructions for telling it that you replaced the drum and instead enter *00. That will tell the printer you have a new cartridge.
This just worked on my Brother TN-450 cartridge as well. Though my "notch" thingy was not pointing to 11:00, I still turned it to 5:00 as he did and it was fine. Everything else seemed the exact same. Thanks much!
Thank you your method really worked. Now my business can start working again. Also that little spring may need to be moved sightly to get the second gear to fit.
Just tried this on my Brother 7065DN and everything went as shown here. Printer is no longer beeping at me that ink is low so I'm assuming this will work. Going to do all my other cartridges that I kept and should be good for a long while. Brilliant, thank you so much for sharing and explaining this so well.
i often wondered if I WAS GETTING the FULL life of my cartridges - I HAVE HAD A GET TONER ready message for months and I am still using the same cartridge - before i reorder - i am going to try this and see if this doesn't save me some money - as i just gibbly hand over 17.95 plus 8.95 ship per cartridge - gets expensive - and i am looking at the roller and i see that it feels fuller than the machine is telling me - I FEEL HOODWINKED - WHAT A RACKET ... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO
IN ALL Fairness to Brother I have had the same printer since 2009 - for homeschooling and using the tn 2010 cartridges - i have replaced the drums and belts 1x and it is still going strong - love my printer ... i would buy another brother jet ink printer no hesitation as it has served me well
the brother 88660dn uses a tn-550 cartridge and has a different cog and gear layout but using your step by step i was able to get the gear reset now it prints out with whats left in the toner cartridge thank you very much for your help sir.
Dear sir, your video was of great help. Thank you! In name of Mother Nature, and honest consumerism. I had a different kind of toner, but I managed to 'reset' the toner. Basically, you need to 'rewind' the white cogs. You da real bro'! :-)
That's a great tutorial. Thank you very much! Do you also have a tutorial for resetting the DR-2200 drum of a Brother laser printer that uses these TN-2010 cartridges?
The tutorial to reset the DR-200 drum is here ua-cam.com/video/GxNiDet6Ec4/v-deo.html. Works great as well and is even easier. Just open the printer and hold the Go button for 4 seconds.
So you are saying is that this allows the toner cartridge to salvage the remaining toner in the cartridge? Or do you need to put more toner in somehow. Need more info
Thank-you for this! I was having a problem with a cartridge where after resetting the flag gear and putting it back into the printer, the flag gear would pop back to the 'empty' position and the printer would display a cartridge error. Once I realigned that second gear it worked like a charm.
Absolutely awesome, I have 10 dead cartridges here I have been saving up for recycling but I have now done this to them all and it worked a treat on every one. Super stoked!!! What a scam of brother trying to make us buy new cartridges when they are not even empty. I wonder how many prints I will get from each one after this reset? Any Idea? Big Cheers

Thanks, My toner is from the MFC7360N. It is now full but shows "Replace Toner". Tried your method. the third BIG wheel and the springs are NOT there. Toner DN2225
First of all thank you very much for this video. Took my Brother HL 2240 apart. It does not have the little piece of metal or the first knob on the right that you took off. It does have the second one that you turned 180 degrees. Will that work? Thank you.
Refresh Cartridges my good sir, how many grams of toner powder would it take to fill the tn2280 (2,600)? i plan to buy toner powder in bulky foil packs and i fear i might spoil what may be left after i open it for the first time,. thanks ahead!
Thank you, had a little difficulty with the 'outside gear' (removing it from the housing); but got it on the second try. (The indexing arrow was nice of the manufacturer.) Business can continue as usual until it is filled.
I did as explained. But MFC2700DW still showing chnage tonner...I am sure still i can print 1000 of pages...but printer is not taking any printing or copy command...kindly suggest. May be new series they made changes so do not know how to reset?
Hey mate! Thank you for the video! May I be informed what does the toner leveling actually do? And do you happen to be willing to make a video of how to refill TN 2010 toner? Thank you very much!
Once your printer thinks the cartridge is empty it will continue to print in this range of printers. Resetting the toner gives you another estimates 1,00 pages from the cartridge (assuming you have the toner). We don't refill toners ourselves so I wouldn't feel comfortable advising in this instance.
I have Question.. Please answer ... what about wastage of powder/ink? Others printers like Richo or Samsung, they have a two separate panel, one for fill up new ink and another for wastage.
Hi. I have a brother 2130, it makes 3 fingers faint from the right on the paper. I opened it and cleaned the knife and it didn't fix. There is also a 3-finger dust-free part on the magnetic roller under the blade, is it because of this? There's dust everywhere else. How do I fix this?
will try mine quit printing and tells me to get a new cartridge but I know there is more toner in there cos last prints still clearly readable. I will try.
I can't get this to work with the new Brother DCP-L2520DW printer. The gear to the right looks different and doesn't really pop back in. Any suggestions? I'm going broke buying ink. Thanks
I tried to reset but have a problem. My cartridge does not have the large gear on the right side that he removes at 0:40. Nor does it have the metal spring that sits below the large gear. The cover on mine has a black structure that mimics the shape of that large white gear with the hook at the top. The printer would feel that black structure on the cover as if it were the white gear that protrudes from the cover in the video. I did reset the inner gear and pointed it in the 5 o'clock position as indicated in the video I have refilled my cartridge with toner. Perhaps my cartridge is a starter model or something that came with the printer. The printer reports Replace Toner Cartridge. Does anyone know what's wrong? Thanks
Got a refurbished cartridge and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. Followed the advice in the video and it worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!

YOU'RE A WIZARD! I was trying everything to fix my printer and this worked. I want to hug you!
Well lit, music almost inaudible instead of deafening and proper, clear, spoken instructions that make sense. All "instructional" UA-cam videos should use this as a template.
Thanks this was exactly my model and your instructions fixed it. I was close to giving up after weeks of trying.
Thank you! My printer wouldn't quit telling me to replace the cartridge with a new one, so I did this and it worked.
amazing simple video and since i kept all my RIP cartridges, I am reviving them all and it's amazing how much ink there still is in all of them
Thank you so much for creating this video!!!!!
Nicely done. Well explained. Simple and to the point and no annoying music. Thank you.

very clear visually, vocally and clear English spoken.
Very easy and clear to follow instructions. Allowing me to get quite a lot more prints from my existing cartridge.

Instructions worked perfectly for my Brother MFC-7360N printer. Thank you.
Thanks so much for that I was doing a stupid project for science and didn't have any toner left so this helped a lot :)
Works on TN-420. Thank you very much. Save the video in your youtube playlist so you can find it again easy.
This just worked on my Brother TN-450 cartridge as well. Though my "notch" thingy was not pointing to 11:00, I still turned it to 5:00 as he did and it was fine. Everything else seemed the exact same. Thanks much!
Oh my God, i've been trying for hours to fix it. I'm so glad i came upon this video. It worked !!!
Used this procedure to reset a 2030 cartridge and it worked fine. Thanks for the video.
Thank you your method really worked. Now my business can start working again.

THANK YOU! I have 5 toner cartridges that I was going to recycle and I just did this to the one I was going to replace. It is working GREAT!

Great instructions! You made it simple!! Unlike other videos that take everything apart for no reason what so ever !
Excellent video, very calm and patient delivery. It worked just as it you said it would.
Excellent video! Saved me $100! Thank you!
thank you for that. Feeling the loss of all those cartridges I dumped !!! What a greedy corporate-sly world !
Worked perfectly on my TN-450 cartridge (Printer HL-2270). Thanks for the schooling.
Thanks a lot! Our replacement cartridges had the cogs at slightly different angles, but it still seemed to work!
easily done,,took less than 5 min. Thanks. Brother DCP7060D

Thank-you for this! I was having a problem with a cartridge where after resetting the flag gear and putting it back into the printer, the flag gear would pop back to the 'empty' position and the printer would display a cartridge error. Once I realigned that second gear it worked like a charm.

Does anyone know what's wrong? Thanks
Ken Danieli, yes you have a starter toner unit. You can buy the spring and gear on eBay for a few bucks.
You are the best! Thank you so much
