What I would give to hit one ball, just one ball, that made the same sound yours does every time you hit it! You make it look so much simpler than it really is. I've been watching you for several years and have made progress, but I guess I need to play and practice more often to get these results.
This was the biggest realization I ever had back when I was a junior. This is the “low handicap” move for sure. This is how you hit real golf shots
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I appreciate your validating remarks!!
Thanks for your message and support!

Yes Tom! You taught us this a couple of years back and the improvement is almost immediate! Together with the stack & tilt stuff this is gold 😃
Yes! The physics and geometry of this Stack and Tilt system are timeless. I just find that it is beneficial to conveys the concepts in different ways so they resonate well with the widest possible sampling of viewers!

I’m amazed Tom, I had been watching to many UA-cam lessons and lost my way. Forgot it all and just concentrated on the shoulder. Played 9 holes scored 43, 270 yard drives. Thanks bud!
Awesome job, and thanks for sharing your "rebirth"!! 💪💪
With regard to watching different videos from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. It's best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it.

I really like this move Tom! I have often thought that the left shoulder plays a significant role in the golf swing and you have substantiated this! Well Done Tom!

Thanks Tom. Love your simple approach. One thought that was imbedded in me 40+ years ago as a kid was to think I had a fishing line connected to my nose and a hook attached to my scrotum. Scary thought, effective in maintaining a relationship with the ball (balls). 😊
This is the BEST. IT WORKS. This is very easy to apply because it’s on the backswing. Thanks Tom.
My (2) thoughts are the shoulder down. My right shoulder as I'm a lefty. AND the Ben Hogan tip from you Tom about having the insides of my elbows pointing upwards. Still very much appreciate the lesson in person a few years back.
My pleasure, Greg!
Sounds like two very simple and workable keys, and since the Hogan tip is more of a setup component you really just have one swing thought - which I like!!
Keep up the great work!!
Tom

By the way, it is important to understand that my channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes - they are all elements of the comprehensive swing system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt and commit to the system in its entirety, and that is precisely what the online school does in a structured and sequential learning environment. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

Tom I was in your area this weekend and broke 80 for the first time at the Dye in North Myrtle! Couldnt have done it without you.. i have been playing less golf than I used to (only about once a month) but u turned me into a robot. This game is so easy if u let it be
That's awesome!! Congrats on your new personal best and for breaking through the 80 barrier, and on a difficult track for that matter!! 💪💪

I found this channel 2 weeks ago & you have helped me tremendously already!! My swaying is now in check! I get locked to the wall, keep my arm straight, & hit em crispy! My swing is shorter & easier to repeat! I am already striking the ball more consistently & my ball path is now straight or a slight draw vs the slice or push I was expecting to always have. Life is too short to play bad golf. GOLF IS FUN AGAIN!!! THANK YOU SIR!
That's FANTASTIC, Jordy!!! 💪💪
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!

Tom
As you mentioned, this is easier to do with the shorter irons. Still working on the correct angle for the 4-7. I also like to point my following shoulder at the same spot to help follow through.
It is easier initially with the short irons, Michael, although it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html
Keep working at it properly and the crispy ball striking will work its way into your entire bag!

Started my journey to better golf last week. Joined your program, and I'm happy with the things to come. I am the person with those bubble demons pre swing. If you are on the fence about starting his program, don't wait like I did. START PLAYING BETTER GOLF! I can see my swing improving every day following his program. Can't wait for the scores to show the hard work it's coming. I just feel different behind the ball now.

Great lesson Tom, Hogan also thought this swing thought shoulder under left chin, great swing thought to keep out the clutter shallow club at start of downswing, flatten hands to sky then close square before impact etc to many movements at 100 miles an hour !!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Tim!! And yes - you are absolutely correct with regard to the erroneous notion that we need to manufacture some type of a rolling or flipping "release". Given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of this action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that most pros are trying to actively manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration.
Thanks for your message and support!!

thanks Tom, im glad you are on the same plane (pardon the pun) as me on the hands movements on the downswing, Clay Ballard is teaching this active hand manipulation to shallow and then square the club which im finding impossible to achieve, without as you say 1,000s of reps at the range which i cant find the time for with 3 young kids even though im in my 50s, i like the keep it simple and dont over think it strategy and some key swing thoughts that done clutter your head up or take amazing motor skills to execute at high speed (and i swing fairly fast) thanks for the free link i think i checked it our before but will have a refresh, i am using your method to swing now with weight on front side and tilting the shoulder to keep relationship to the ball - my biggest weakness still as with most amateaurs is im probably not leading the downswing with the hips properly resulting in a slight over the top swing like hogan said you start the dwonswing with the hips not the hands, its just that first motion on transaction from backswing to downswing that is so hard to master ie leading with the hips, my fast swing doesnt help me here as my hands tend to get ever so slightly ahead of my hips on transition but ill keep working on it and kee watching your brilliant lessons@@SagutoGolf
Excellent post. I will try this swing thought tomorrow
Thanks again, Khaleel, and I hope it performs well for you!!

Tom
Tom couple weeks ago I watched a video of yours tilt and turn. I've changed from a more up right position to more of a tilt. That did not work for me what so ever. That is until I seen another video of yours showing top of the swing to where the club shaft should line up in between the ball and our feet. So I added that Advice to the tilt and turn. Omg.....a 360 degree turn around. Thank you so much.
Excellent job putting those together, George!!
This is precisely why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

this truly is a brillaint technique to learn / use. So thanks a lot Tom. I got it quite quickly with irons although ball flight low at the start, tweaked it a litle by having ball position for every shot just off left heel, and really getting the shoulders tilting helps massively for me..Took me a while with driver as it did feel a bit weird at the beginning. But I watched you video with the (5000 volt ) alignment stick 3 feet behind the ball...After electricuting myself about 20 times, I finally did it... My finish still needs work but practice makes perfect as they say...Improvement is massive in my ball striking which has given me more confidence over the ball, You are a legend by doing these videos.
That's fantastic, Scotty! (though I'm sorry about those electric shocks..... 😎)

Tom, Can you re-post the link to the "5000 volt" video? You are the man. Thanks.
Over the past year I have watched you and Jim Venetos and have gone from a 15 to a 7, good stuff. You guys teach a similar method focusing the weight on the lead side and it works.
I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!!
I subscribe to and teach the Stack and Tilt swing and choose to "stay in my lane" when it comes to other lesson content out there. That's certainly not a slap against any other methodologies; it's simply that I know what I teach works for me and for countless golfers across the globe who continue to flood my inbox with unsolicited testimonials of enjoying the best golf of their lives. Having said that, since Stack and Tilt is a robust swing system based on data from the game’s best golf ball strikers, I am never surprised to learn of similarities between components of my teaching and what other very capable instructors are saying.
Thanks for sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the great work!!

Loving all your tips!! I remember you speaking about ball position in your stance. Any chance you can cover this again soon?
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, Ryan.
With regard to these videos, we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.

Played today after watching this video yesterday. Normally shot mid 90s. Shot an 86 with a 40 on the back 9. Most amazing single tip I’ve seen. Now if I can get the ball in the hole once I’m close. Thanks for this, it really made a difference.

I have been learning a lot from Tom for the past three years.
True story: I recently I was paired with two random guys at a public course. My round was going really well. The two guys were impressed. I think it was hole 5 or 6 par 4 I split the fairway 250+ with my driver with a slight draw. One of the guys said, "When are you joining the tour!" We all burst into laughter on the tee box. Good times. 😂
LOL!! That's awesome!!

Saguto crispiness!
I have managed to shoot even par a few times in my life, never under par (so far). Over the last few years I have struggled with contact, mostly chunking. Also I miss to the right of a lot of greens (a lot!). I have shot in the 70's a few times none the less, but mostly because I'm pretty good with my wedges.
Enter Saguto. Left arm straight! Can't overstate how much this helped, and I didn't realize that in my attempt to have a longer back-swing, I was setting myself up for failure. Tilt! Shoulder pointing at the ball - YES! This is also golden for pitching and chipping, I'm telling you, fearless chipping and pitching!
For the first time ever, that I can remember anyway, I don't even need to see the ball. It's at the bottom of my swing, I can just swing, no trying to avoid the chunk (for me that meant trying to just barely brush the ball, having to be soooo careful, no compression, miss right a lot). Now, the ball is there at the bottom of my swing, waiting to be smacked. I sometimes get a little pull to the left, but missing to the right has disappeared, and I don't miss it at all 🙂
NO MORE FEAR! Sure I miss-hit some, but if I stand tall enough, keep my left arm straight, and put that left shoulder under my chin in the back-swing, I can swing freely. Now if I could just make a few birdie putts, because I've had a bunch of birdie putts over the last few rounds.
Thank you Tom - listen to him people! I'm 65 years old and I hit my 5 iron 180 yards yesterday (into a 10 MPH headwind). I've never hit a 5 iron 180 yards!

Hello Tom, I really love your video, which showing me the effective up & down swing. bty I should be grateful if your video have slow motion during the down swing.😊😊
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Alex, and I am very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!
I do slow down my swing in numerous videos. Beyond that, you can easily adjust the playback speed of any YT video manually to as slow as 1/4-speed by clicking on the settings button at the lower right side of the video player. Or you can pause a video and press the period ( . ) button to advance frame by frame and the comma ( , ) to reverse frame by frame.

Ok, so I had to wait to confirm this. I played 3 rounds since I watched this video (and commented previously). I have had the 3 greatest ball striking rounds I have EVER had. Bar none. On the first round, I knew there was something special about this because I hit almost all of my warmup range shots perfectly, not a single top, chunk, nor duff. Not one. I proceeded to play that round without a single penalty or lost ball. First time ever. The 2nd round of this, I hit the most pure 9 iron I have ever hit, into about a 20-25 mi/hr wind. Yesterday, final confirm round I had another amazing day. This is the ONLY thing I changed. No grip adjustments, no weight changes, no pace change. Shoulder at ball only. THIS TIP IS A MIRACLE!!!
And now there can be no surprise as to why this was Arnold Palmer's favorite tip...
That is *OUSTANDING!!* I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! Thanks so much for sharing your methodical process and your resulting improvement, and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

I'm glad to see your sense of humor is back....and better. The cocking of the shotgun 3 wood was hilarious. Seriously now...and that's why we stand like a duck....that alone helps with turn..which allows you to point the shoulder with tilt. I'm finally understanding this...

Man I did it again Tom! I got a 38 on a more difficult course this time. I hadn't broken 40 on that one yet and I just made it happen. I was actually -2 through 5 holes (no mullies, no gimmies, no relief, all strokes counted). A couple more strokes off and I could be at scratch!

Tom,as usual, great tip ! My swing thought when playing well is to turn my RIGHT shoulder(right handed golfer) UP ! That gets my club set. I will try your method instead. Seems like the same move but your rhyme of "shoulder down to the ground" is helpful
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Larry! Yes - this was Arnold Palmer's favorite tip, and it has help a LOT of folks to preserve their relationship with the ball, make a full turn, and enjoy the resulting crispy contact. Having said that, your trail shoulder feel is certainly valid as well since it essentially accomplishes the same thing, similar to what this lesson from my channel's archives speaks to: ua-cam.com/video/_cH01IRmq1Q/v-deo.html
I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
Thanks for your message and have fun out there!!

Thanks for so much help via your awesome content Tom. Out of interest, are those jumbomax grips? If so do you find they have helped?
I'm glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, Doug!
Though not in this video, I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
Thanks!

@Sagutogolf, yeowww!! I always feel like my swing is based on good posture, bent at hips. When I'm poor it's losing posture/incomplete backswing, poor transition at top. Another great tip. I am curious if the tilting you mention is why they call it the stack and tilt method? And does this work with a driver? I mean can you flong your driver with the tilt with which you lilt?
LOL!! You know the answer to that, Bob - lilt the tilt and your drives will be kilt to the hilt......
It's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.

Thank You! This thought and weight 60/40 left/right leg has helped me a lot. I am striking better and straighter than ever. One thing I still have issues with is, position of the ball for various clubs. Currently, I keep it in the middle regardless of the club.. Is that the right approach? May be you can cover that in your next video PLEASE? Thank you again. Appreciate your videos.
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!!
While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.

Similar to another lesson I learned about swing low point control. The center of the swing is your lead shoulder! I imagine a minute hand on a clock, the point being my club head and the center of the hand as my lead shoulder.
Yes! The lead shoulder represents the center of the swing circle, and as such the lead arm is the radius (which is why it is so important to keep that arm straight). Nice job, and thanks for sharing your clock imagery!

Great stuff Mr. Saguto. I’m assuming right shoulder down in the downswing would also be a good thought? Left shoulder down, right shoulder down?
It is certainly an optional feel I teach. I often refer to it as airplane wings banking to the left (for a right handed player) in the backswing and to the right in the downswing.

@@SagutoGolf I will check it out .. wanted to let you know I just went and shot an 87 (I was 10 over on the first 9 😂😭) so it was a mediocre round but I used your ball striking technique and omg I didn’t chunk my iron a single time ..
Great Video - would have loved to see it with the driver as well, as ball position, swing direction upwards are completely different then with an iron or wood. Maybe you get the chance, Tom?
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Carsten! I simply did not have enough room on the range to hit the driver. Anyway, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Love this tip and the downswing seems to just naturally follow after pointing my shoulder to the ball. Just curious as to why this tip seems to cause the downswing to also work so well and be on path? Thanks
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!
The purpose of the backswing is to properly load the various power accumulators and put us in a good position at the top to transition into a well-sequenced downswing. This particular action of pointing the shoulder to the ball accomplishes all that, and this is one reason why it was Arnold Palmer's favorite tip!
Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!!

I was at the Nissan open in 1998. I believe it was the year Billy Mayfair won. I saw Nick Faldo at the driving range hitting an 8-iron to a 150-yard sign. Every ball was right at it, and his head and his tilt and his spine angle never changed throughout his swing. Just like him
No surprise there, Raymon! This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.

Hey Tom, do you plan to do any course vlogs, I’ve been watching your old ones on repeat because I can’t get enough of the crispy kfc feeling. Also I’ve been taking your advice for a few months and I finally broke 90
That's awesome!! Congratulations on breaking into the 80's!!
I'm glad you've enjoyed the previous vlogs. At this juncture these are rather difficult for me to justify from a cost-benefit perspective. They take considerable time to record and produce, and they just don't garner anywhere near the viewership and interest in comparison to the lesson videos; I must keep the desires of my general audience in mind in this regard. Perhaps I’ll do another at some point, but my primary focuses are supporting my online school and its members while creating quality instruction content for this channel's subs and visitors.
Thanks for sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the great work!!

@@SagutoGolf just took the 3 step lesson. It's not often that I can sense my golf swing (or any skill) getting better as I learn by watching a YT video.. yet here I am feeling like I've acquired very interesting knowledge that will have very impactful, positive results on developing my golf swing. Can't wait to get home and pull out a club to work on these. Thanks Tom!!
I love Arnie's picture that's pure power They gave current tour players persimmon driver and balls from Palmer era and asked Mc Ilroy and others to reproduce Arnie's drive on number 1 at Cherry Hills in '62 !! They say none came close to his shot!!
He was The Man!! With the advances in AI nowadays I'm guessing we will one day know how The King and other legends of the game would have fared with today's equipment and against the current crop of top players.
Hi Tom, so would a good swing thought be left shoulder to the ball then downswing right shoulder to where the ball was?
Hi Paul,
An effective swing thought is one that works well for you. For example, if your tendency is a downswing path that is too shallow, then trail shoulder to the ball may work well. Conversely, if your path tends toward the steep side, then that same thought may exacerbate your issue.
I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible.

Hey Tom, shot my best round of golf today with a 108 thanks to you and your lessons. Thats not including a handicap because I dont know how to calculate it lol Par 72 course.
Smoking drives, only a couple of bad slices. Drove my first green today. I putted terrible tho.
Thank you so much for your help. Can you teach us how to play when a breeze blows? and do u have putting drills?
That's fantastic! Congrats on your new personal best and on smoking those drives!! 💪💪
As you continue to build confidence in your swing you will learn to trust it when the wind blows. You'll also gain more control over your trajectory and understand how to flight it lower or higher as conditions dictate.
You may find a couple of related videos here if you enter the word "putt" into this channel's search bar. However, the vast majority of my short game content can be found in the online school: saguto.golf

When your shoulder is turned and its pointing at the ball. What’s your weight distribution between your left and right legs at that stage of the swing?
I will preface my reply by saying that the need for a "weight shift" in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point.
Having said that - and in answer to your question - in the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.

Total beginner still duffing lots, and enjoying your videos. I notice that the very first thing that happens on your downswing is the left hip and leg moving forward - is that a thing?.
Welcome to this greatest of games!!
That is a very astute observation from a total beginner, and yes it is a "thing"!! 😎 Here are a couple of lesson videos specific to the topic of the proper hip action in the downswing:

Thanks for the quick reply and useful links. Seems it is a thing, and I can safely incorporate that into my "impersonation" of you. I worried a little at first if I got too far forward I might thin it, but I guess that's not so within reason. Hoping to play my first round in a few weeks time...what could possibly go wrong. btw slow motion videos really useful - much easier than bashing the pause button all day, lol.
