That`s what they say, IMO they took 2 years at best, remember this game was supposed to be released in 2022? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The whole game lacks vision, everything is copied and pasted from previous Bethesda Titles.
-The grenades are from Fallout IV, and the quick menu access is from Fallout IV. Even the freaking computer sounds are from Fallout IV.
-Starborn powers are Skyrim shouts, they didn`t even bother making dungeons to acquire the power, just flew in zero G hitting sparkly dust, there, good enough.
-Fetch quests, the whole game is a fetch quest simulator, seriously just do an outside perspective without paying attention to the Lore, is literally - go get this, put there, go get 2 of these, go get 2 of that, mix and put here, now bring this there, that`s the whole game.
-We have how many companions in Starfield? How many we had in Fallout IV and Skyrim again? I remember J`zargo more than I remember Sara and I`ve spent way more time with Sara.
-Ships can only fit 50 or so components, can`t build star yards, no companions can fly ships, Cora keeps talking about books every time I land, almost throwing her into an airlock.
-Companion questlines are, boring, and uninteresting, in fact, you can only do 2 of them every playthrough because how you acquire their approval is very limited. I`m literally meddling with a divorced couple in Sam`s questline, my brother in Christ, that`s not fun, that`s not engaging, I`m here to shoot aliens, not hear adults bitching.
-And IMO the worst sin this game has, remember the Red Mile? That you do a dangerous run and get paid? Well, I did it the 30 times required so you can beat the record holder, thinking to myself it would lead to a nice weapon, a title, maybe recognition... I got a 2 line dialogue from the previous record holder and a regular rare rifle with no perks on it, that`s it, the game hints at "Amazing rewards" and it`s not there, it's unfinished lazy garbage.

The difference between Starfield and Cyberpunk was that the core game of Cyberpunk has been great since day one. While 2.0 was a huge update it didn't really substantially change any of the game's mechanics. The fundamental aspects of the game that made gunplay, the gameplay loop, and most importantly the writing great were there since the beginning. The post launch updates and 2.0 basically created a more polished and streamlined version of that. On the other hand Starfield has foundational issues with things like questing, exploration, writing, and how the game is built/coded that can never be fixed. You aren't gonna be able to just simply patch in a system of actually meaningful content to fill its thousands of planets or fix badly written characters and questlines. BSG can add more content over time for sure and that will make Starfield more enjoyable for sure but at its core problems will always hold the game down.

@@rahulsar2030 I wish. Most AA studios are still in a place where they are hungry and eager to make something big and great (even if they don't quite have the budget or manpower to pull it off). That's just not Bethesda.
Bethesda is a unique product of the "Bethesda pass". For so many decades, and over so many games, their fans kept giving them a pass for shoddy work. Game's full of bugs? Game crashes all the damn time? Game can't even be completed due to broken quests? Game engine barely works and graphics still look like a 360 game? No problem! We forgive you Bethesda! The modders will fix it, this is fine.. this is just fine..
That is what bred Bethesda's crappy mentallity. If you can just make whatever junk you feel like making, and all these idiots will buy millions of copies, and not even complain when it doesen't work, then why bother making anything good? The fanboys will eat up any old Toddslop they are served, so why aim any higher than that? Just make Toddslop. It sells.

For context, I enjoyed and continue to enjoy both games. That being said, there was heaps of criticism towards Cyberpunk 2077 from day one, including its "great core". There were numerous people criticising the lack of impact a majority of decisions in Cyberpunk had, the relatively generic characters, gunplay that was decent but fairly cookie cutter, underwhelming hacking/cyberware, terrible vehicle handling, lack of immersion in the city through dumb npcs/lack of real police/lack of any sort of reaction to the player in any big ways, fairly repetitive quest design, poor performance, etc. These are just a few of the criticisms, I'm sure I have missed some. While some of them have since been fixed, I think people are quick to forget and quick to criticise. Not to sound cynical but a lot of the renewed positivity in Cyberpunk was in large part due to the Edgerunners anime, which fuelled excitement for an expansion that ended up being quite good. BGS may not ever have the same redemption arc but I also think people refuse to give it the chance to win us back, which Cyberpunk didn't receive until relatively recently. In the perfect world, we would just get games that work, unfortunately, this is our timeline.

  • @robsolf
    @robsolf 4 місяці тому +55

Pretty smart of Matty to add the qualifier, "What Bethesda says will be...(the biggest update)". With Cyberpunk, CDR made it clear that they got the message about the game being crap. BGS is signalling the opposite: "The problem isn't the game, it's the players". Every PR move they've made points to this. BGS will do tiny little things, while hoping the mod community will fix the worst of it, and add something to fulfill their DLC commitments, and then it'll be full on MT focus til the last person logs off. F76 shows us this roadmap, already.

Very good point. By this same point in CP2077's post-launch life, CDPR had already offered a massive apology and a very generous refund policy across all platforms (which is why Sony de-listed the game initially), had released close to a dozen significant hotfixes & 2 major patches.....all whilst dealing with the fallout of a major hack of their computer network. Meanwhile, BGS has spent most of the last 4 months creating ChatGPT replies to negative reviews and releasing 2 patches to Skyrim that have broken mods each time 😆.

At this point it's best to uninstall, forget about Starfield and maybe be pleasantly surprised one day... I still believe that we need a lot more "writing" and gameplay to help glue the game together into a coherent experience. The game is lacking to an insane degree. Had to mod the hell out the gameplay loop that slowed down all of the busy work. I can't explain how I could spend 600 hours on it. Found myself modding more and playing less, week by week and now I don't feel like playing it at all (o.O)

    • @user-tp5yb4hr4w
      @user-tp5yb4hr4w 4 місяці тому +1

Funny thing is that's usually the case anyway, we end up spending more time modding our game than actually playing it, because oftentimes while we are modding our game we run into a bunch of fucking conflicts and sometimes the tools that we use don't tell us which mod is causing the problem, and we end up having to check an uncheck mods down or load order in order to figure out which one is fucking it up, unfortunately that's what modding is all about, eventually we get to that perfect tear list where it all just works like Todd Howard says, it just takes us a fuckload of time to make a stable good experience.

And a modder has zero responsibility for the associated effects of any changes they make, such as to performance or the correct functioning of other systems. They are not the same.

At least with Cyberpunk 2077 the core content was there from the start and good. (They made almost 0 story changes and the builds even became worse in 2.0 in my opinion. Skill trees have almost no synergies with each other now.) Cyberpunk 2077 had so many inexcusable bugs at launch but Starfield is missing an entire game. It’s hard to have bugs when there isn’t a game to begin with. And what is the horrible take on Cyberpunk missing RPG elements while you’re defending Bethesda’s games? If you were to compare Cyberpunk with CRPGs, sure, but Starfield? Every bit of “rpg-element” in Starfield are head-canons you have to make yourself because the only help the game gives in furthering your roleplaying is you picking an option in character customisation that says “You are a professor”, which next to never gets brought up again. I can count on my one hand how many times Bounty Hunter came up in dialogues in my 200h gameplay. The only real flavour that came from the choices in character customisation was the annoying fan and having parents. Cyberpunk’s Nomad/Corpo/Street kid background is super plain and limited but they had more impact on the dialogue than Starfield’s backgrounds. And in classic Bethesda fashion you have zero commitment to anything you would think would have one. Swear yourself to the Rangers? Can do their quest and do every other faction quest too without any repercussions or impact on anything. What was IN the game that you could roleplay that you couldn’t do with other franchises? If I played Prince of Persia I can have the exact same amount of roleplaying by making up a head-canon that Dastan used to have a part-time job at a hotdog stand.

I find the narrative about Cp2077 really confusing. It didn't take years for it to become good. On pc I had a decent experience the month it launched. Far from perfect but the core was there. And the majority of bug fixes came in the first 7 months. They kept making improvements and adding additional features like advanced ray tracing, but most of the game, and story that exists today was working well within 6-7 months, and for many on pc with decent hardware, the game wasn't completely broken even at launch. Consoles were obviously in a shameful state for a while. The core game has always been good though. This idea that it only became good with the latest updates, additions and system overhauls is dumb. Yes 2.0 and subsequent patches were a big improvement in many ways, but it was pretty exceptional long before that.

A lot of people like me bought CP77 at launch and were disappointed by the lack of open world RPG elements. The gigs are minimal side content, and the emptiness of the city reminded me of the GTA games on the PS2. The main quest feels padded after the first 8 hours and I struggled to like any of the characters. So a lot of the backlash was not about bugs, but lies in the marketing, and CDPR never redeemed themselves in the eyes of those millions of those fans. The brief "redemption arc" came from younger fans of the TV show that listen to UA-cam influencers and were hungry for a GTA type game.

I find that odd too but I can also see where they are coming from. I bought it on pc, had very little issues but I saw all the videos of the bugs. And was like damn, I guess I was just pretty lucky. Besides rushing release I think their biggest mistake was launching it on previous gen, from the bug gameplay I saw a lot of it came from last gen. I felt like I was one of the few people that enjoyed the game at launch, but then again it's all about expectations, besides the teaser I stayed away from all promotional and marketing materials. I was just expecting an rpg lite fps with a decent story in a cyberpunk dystopian world, and that's sort of what I got. However I wasn't a fan boy of the game, I found if there could be improvements to the game due to the valid criticism from the community it would be welcomed. And it worked the game got far better than I would have ever expected. This is also one of the reason why I don't understand the fan boying over starfield, even if you love the game as it is now, if BGS takes the constructive criticism all it would do is improve the game you love so much. It's a win win win.

Another big problem with the Starfield UI that really needs to be fixed is that there are multiple categories of quests, and these are spread across multiple star systems and locations, but there's no way to filter your quests by the location you are in. For example if you are in Neon, there's no way for you to display only quests that have waypoints in neon. Even when You are doing a quest, and you look at the latest quest marker, trying to find that quest again in the quest list is unnecessarily cumbersome.

I don’t think they have the tech to straight up cut the load screens, but they should really figure out how to better mask them. Like, in Elite, jumps between star systems are actually a sort of load screen, but the transition between it and gameplay is seamless. If we could at least have seamless transition between player control and jump animations that would go a long way to make it feel less disruptive.

    • @user-tp5yb4hr4w

It's more like an early access title, and the consumers end up being the game testers because Bethesda are too cheap to have game testers, honestly it sounds a little bit too much like Windows as an operating system these days, they release a buggy version of Windows and people all around the world who are using their program tell them how terrible it runs so then they do some more updates and it runs worse and then they do some more updates and then it runs worse and eventually people get sick and tired of Microsoft and their shit, and then they moved to Lenox and Linux isn't perfect either but at least the community there actually fucking tries to make things better and they don't spy on you.
Going back to the topic of bethesda, they seem to run into the same cycle every time they release any game, they release it in a buggy broken mess, and they don't fix it for a while, this time however it seems a little bit different, but only because people are negative about the games reception and it's showing up and platform, and Bethesda can't just give up on their baby they created for the last decade straight, they have to go back to the drawing board and fix all the shit they fucked up, part of me feels like it's a scam, because normally when it's an early access game they don't ask for that much money, they ask for maybe $30 for an early access game some of them are 25 or $20 or maybe even 15, my point is they sold this game as if it was a full game but it's clearly An Early Access title, it's not finished and it's not going to be finished anytime soon, in my understanding it's false advertising to call it a full complete game and sell it as a full price title, they should give people back their money or they could give them half their money back, because this game right now in a state is not worth what they say it's worth in any shape or form, because it's an early access title game that is not finished and won't likely be finished roughly 3 to 5 years from now, I say 3 years because that's how long it took cyberpunk to fix their game to actually make it good, but because this is Bethesda and I know they take a fuck love longer to update their game, I say 5 years is more realistic.

I know you were interested in the game and so were we, but when it released, it was a classic case of unfinished, broken, buggy mess, which they sold at full price despite the game being nigh-unplayable. They raised the min. and recommended specs right before release and the game still came out unplayable for most people (even top-of-the-line rigs). They've released some patches to fix it but it's nowhere near where it should be. The other day, the CEO of Colossal Order talked about "toxicity" in the fanbase but if you read the comments, everyone's like "you sold us a broken game at full price, you're not the one who should be mad here"

Let me explain Starfield in the mix of so many good games previous year and where it lacked....it is just bland across the board from its gameplay to story to quests to open world and after roaming 2-3 planet fish bowls you will get the whole idea of so called exploration in Starfield as by far biggest problem is this (it's core design)... it's a single player title that wants to spend hours on it roaming planets without a sense of progression that I would get from a MMO or online live service.....I mean after completing the story and side quests what's the point of playing it if it is "boring and bland".....and then you will realise more how bad the creation engine really is (on it's last legs) and the technical aspects of the game which is actually way outdated....so no fun and more bugs and limitations and restrictions and the kore you play video games it is supposed to get better with time (slow burns like New AC games or previous Bethesda titles) and somehow it progressively gets worse as the game goes on....like there is no sense of achievement no pleasure in putting more hours into the game and also matter of fact is unlike old Bethesda titles which were backed up by amazing community of mods....there are no such mods for this till now that will add things that will be fun again.....and lastly Starfield decided to release in that year where the steaks of games was really high and the quality we expected would be much more than Beth's delivered
.....it is the same thing that Ubisoft didn't understand for the longest time that amount of content and quality of content much different than each other...Starfield has a lot of mechanics and it also tries to become the jack of all trades like AC Valaha but suffers as it can't clearly implement anything really ❤(hope Luke reads this comment)

Starfields issue is space in real life is boring. In No Man's Sky, planets are super close to each other it's ridiculous. You can zip around the entire star system in minutes which if you could do in real life, would be faster than light speed. But it at least feels like you are moving really fast. In Starfield, the speed is more 'realistic' and as such the planet in the background doesn't really change in apparant size so it looks like you aren't actually moving. Just like in real life if you were out there. And that's boring. But that's the direction they deliberately chose. It's not a flaw, it's just they went for 'too much' realism if they expected people to have fun in these areas

3:57 in the demo they said the theme is like futuristic and advance but like used to feel more grounded like that so they just put a filter on it 😂

I would wait for Game of the Year edition. But then I would be waiting forever. This game will never get GOTY.

Tbh, I didn't look up anything about starfield before it came out. Maybe a trailer or two, but I purposely didn't look into it because I didn't want to be swayed by opinions. I enjoyed it for like a week or two then got bored. I hope they fix it eventually.

how many years was this game in development? and now they expect me to clap my hands when they do some bug fixes and minor changes? I don't think so.

I wish bethesda wasnt deluded about how 'successful' and 'great' starfield is. If they were more honest about it and can take the criticism to heart I would have more hope for Elder Scrolls 6.

The fact that the game needs so many load screens for showing nothing tell us all we need to know about the engine.
In No Man's Sky you start on foot, get on the ship, fly to space, land on your frigate and no load screen.

Only Bethesda and Todd Howard can spend 23 years + making a game. That comes out usually extensively buggy, slightly broken, and generally to mixed reviews. Then spend 1-10 years improving it just to make a playable game. After all this they'll launch a Special Edition, or Anniversary Edition.

I haven't been able to play the game from the geko post 4 days of playtime, after 4 days it immediately crashed.
Been many months since and the gane still doesn't work.

That green blurry color filter looks terrible. A modder made Neutral Luts No Color Filter the game looks so much better.

Starfield even *attempting* a "redemption arc" would be like Fortnite launching in 2017 and then choosing to dump all their resources into supporting the Save the World mode.

It shouldn’t be accepted for a game company to follow a schedule like that. Games should be released with a minimum amount of bugs. Not buying a developers games will force them to release great games. Either release them complete or go out of business.

I'm tired of people acting like this is okay. Games should not be able to have years of development just to have more years of development after people already paid for it. They're supposed to get funding before making a good game, not make a bad game and get the funding to make it better over time.

It takes them months and months to get these out is because the workers don’t like to work. Meanwhile they go on their 2 hour lunch break and screams at a McDonald’s employee for there coffee machine being broke and they misgendered them when they apologized for the inconvenience 😂

I just got bored at around 15 hours. It baffles me at how many "quest" are... get quest on Mars, fly to moon, walk to base, talk to guy, get item, fly back to Mars, hand in item. And all that was 2 mins of walking/talking and 6 loading screens.

Starfield is just another game that Bethesda was expecting modders to fix. Unfortunately, for Bethesda, most modders don't want to touch it. Tells me all I need to know. I'll go back to Oblivion for now.
