I thought it was either citron or quince.🙂

That yellow fruit you got is ayva (quince in English). You can eat it like an apple. Some might be a bit dry though (not preferable). They use them to make desserts or jam.

Awesome! Thanks so much. We had never seen it before and were curious. And it was a bit dry when we tried it 😂

@@DotsonaMap The deserts and jams made from it are much tastier. And it softens quite a bit when cooked. :) The seeds of the fruit are used to make colorless jelly. They use those for things like thickening the quince jam or covering the fruits on cakes so they look more vibrant and shiny. And that is probabaly way more that you wanted to know about a dry strange fruit :D

@@DotsonaMap We don’t eat the fruit directly, we make jams and desserts. There’s even an idiom in Turkish “Ayvayı yemek” which means “to be in deep sh*t” 😂

    •  2 роки тому

The best way to eat a quince is to slice it in halves and bake it like an apple with a couple clovers in each half.

Great vlog! Made me reminisce about Turkey. Cool that the guy let you make your own Kumpir! Also miss the Turkish Tea and Baklava... Hope you don't skip Cappadocia. Truly singular spot! Thanks, Dottie. 🙂

6:50 Quince , Ayva. One of my favorite. I have my own Tree back home village but it's too expensive in US. 2$ each for HALF size of what you have in your hand. By the way, it is Turkey that is the world's largest exporter of quince, exporting about 20 000 tonnes per year. How much you paid so far you remember that days in US $ ?

Rakı can kick like a mule , i hope that huge shot didnt make you regret end of the day. We like to drink rakı solwly with lots of food and a lot more chatting. It is a socialising drink with lots of rules and traditions around it just to be sure you are taking slow and consistent amount alcohol so you can keep drinking and not getting too drunk.

8:10 that's a lot of Rakı for you two even though its a small bottle. Did you finish it? Sometimes they do that to sell, I dont like those greedy people but what are you going to do?
Looks like you didnt finish it by looking at how you look normal and not buzzed at Gulluoglu 😂

Italians give 100s names to their pasta's and we Turks give many diffirent names to our sweets. Names differ mostly because of the shape btw.
