I have read all of Christie's Poirot/Miss Marple etc tales. Hundreds if them and they always disappoint me, Her characters remain 'two dimensional cardboard cutouts' although her plots are excellent. In comparison, Sayers characters develop very quickly into 'real people' with strengths, weaknesses emotions etc. What I enjoy too is the quality of her writing, She is a scholar and it shows. Her dwscriptions of Oxford bring it to life. All the characters in Nine Taylors are 'real people, fully developed and effectively are the same as people I know in real life.
My top favourites are the four Wimsey/Vane books which you MUST read in order together with their continuations by Jill Paton Walsh, Thrones, Dominations, Presumption of Death., Attenbury Emeralds and The :Late Scholar. There is a lot more in them than the mysteries,, the slow development of a relationship between two equally prickly intellectuals recognising and accepting eventually their equality. Harriet is quite clearly an avatar of Sayers herself.
I recommend the podcast 'Shedunnit' presented by Caroline Crampton.

I haven’t read a ton of Dorothy Sayers, but this one and The Nine Tailors are my current faves by her. I imagine this one holds up quite well on reread! I was actually similar to you on my Sayers experience except I read Gaudy Night first and actually really disliked it, and it put me off Sayers. But then I read this one and Loved it and my Sayers journey took off from there lol. I still need to reread Gaudy Night to see if I’ll like it more, because it’s such a famous classic mystery and I want to like it. Also, 6:32, you have beautiful handwriting!

Hi Lil, wonderful vlog. I hope your eczema clears up as soon as possible. I also suffer from eczema but only on my legs. I know how itchy it can get.You look just as beautiful sans makeup.
I loved Gaudy Night and the book refers to Harriet Vane’s trial.
I have clouds of witness to read. I picked it up from the library so I feel I should get to it first. I also have death in the clouds by Agatha Christie. It was a Weather prompt from March mystery madness.I’m thinking of listening to both on audio.I don’t really eat chips or fries as we call them anymore per doctors orders , but I did try them in the UK on my last visit with a wonderful piece of flounder. And my thoughtful Host suggested pepper, so I did try it and thank you for reminding me.I can’t wait to travel again. One of my favorite outings beside our trip to Bath was tea at Harrods. I’ll always remember that, even though I couldn’t afford to buy anything else in the store.
OK, so how do I feel about Dorothy L Sayers? I don’t like her as much as Agatha Christie but then I don’t know her as I know Agatha Christie. I know she was an excellent writer And knew how to write strong women. I will let you know when I get to Strong Poison. Stay well. Aloha, Maya

For me Sayers is brilliant, but just not quite Agatha Christie!! She is still my queen

@@lilsvintageworld Me too. I just finished up a Miss Silver Patricia Wentworth book and I really loved it even though I guessed the culprit pretty fast. The book was Lonesome Road and miss silver was extraordinary in it. I’ll have some more thoughts when I do my three week wrap up some time next week. Still, Agatha Christie is still the my Queen too. Aloha

Awesome reading vlog, Lil! You're definitely making me feel more motivated to read Sayers. I have two of her books on my shelves and I just need to get down to it...lol!
Also, I'm vegan, too! (5 years this Aug)
P.S. Not Sayers related, but have you seen the UA-cam video, 'Miss Pym's Day Out' with Patricia Routledge? I was hearing about it on IN and just watched it today. So soothing!
