No body shifts like that. No one is sitting in their car with the Ebrake for long periods of time. No one struggles to place their key fob in the ignition.
What a gorgeous car! It's such a shame it was discontinued. Volvo was just beginning to raise its design standards...meanwhile most of the competition is lowering theirs.
This guy is an idiot. I am 6'-4" and everything about this car is beautifully and thoughtfully designed and the rear seats are extremely comfortable. I have driven mine for 5 years and each day I have a smile on my face. The only things I will upgrade are the brakes, and the suspension for better tight cornering, on sweeping corners it's just fine. As for the hand brake, it is perfectly positioned for steep hill hold with a manual transmission. It has never interfered with my shifting abilities. I find the lack of electronic gizmos soothing (I do not have the sat-nav or upgraded sound system) and it makes for a purer driving experience. The Polestar chip is worth every penny and gives you fantastic passing performance, even in 6th gear, on the motorway. No, it's not a throw it hard into the switchbacks kind of hot hatch like the VW GTI, but for those of us who don't drive that way regularly it is a fantastic daily driver, gets far more looks than a GTI at the pump and is an instant classic. As they say, Volvo for Life!
I really enjoy my c30 T5 after some minor uppgrades: Exhaust, intake pipe, Eibach springs and Bilstein b8 shocks its a laugh to drive.. Gotta love the T5 sound and yeah I have a mustang GT -17 aswell 😋
Wow he really did not like that car! I've had a pre face lift 2.4 D5 and now got a face lift 2.0 D4 and i love both of them and every single fault this guy brought up don't bother me in the slightest, its an amazing car to drive although I've not had the T5 yet, i wouldn't change from volvo as I've had a BMW smash into me and the pre face lift came out with minimal panel damage and the BMW's front end was smashed to bits and was written off...built like a tank and looks awesome!!!
The ignition is there so if you have a crash you don't smash your knees into the ignition section featured on most cars. Comforts important, safety's first, and Volvo pride themselves on their safety records.
I drove a 2013 R just 3 weeks ago and I didn’t have any issues with the car besides distorted hands free talking and the cup holders are the best I’ve ever had with the exception of my Saab
The bluetooth streaming in these cars isn't for music. It's only for phone calls. I was surprised at just how bare bones the tech was in this thing when I first got mine. That being said, I adore these cars and still have one.
The Polestar horsepower upgrade is NOT a "chip" as he states... It's a software burn. The drivetrain is exactly the same as stock. It just has 25 more horsepower.
I have one and its the earlier model with no sat nav , Im a big guy , and find it very comfy with non of the issues mentioned , and its a hoot to drive . No harm but I just dont think this guy was the intended demographic , go buy a BMW if you want to be average. The one you got was obviously defective though , they did put the steering wheel on the wrong side.
I like this reviewer. He tells it as it is and he's not afraid to point out what's wrong. Other reviewers are usually too nice. I usually agree with most of the points he makes.
Lol no this guy's an idiot and over exaggerated everything this car is amazing and just because he's gangly and uncoordinated doesn't mean they put the e brake in the wrong spot.
I find the Volvo C30 has some odd blind spots when it comes down to the tech features. It has navigation screen as an option, but no backup camera and push start button.
Yhe reason both SAAB and Volvo have green colors on dashboard is because it is the least distracted for your eyes during night driving. In Sweden we have a lot of dark nights per year 😮
Great review! Thank you for actually reviewing the livability of the car's interior and what doesn't work. Every other review gives basic spec sheet facts I could look up on my own.
I find it so strange that the engineer who designed the interior can't handle basic ergo's. Considering how demanding the job field is for the auto industry, one would think they'd be able to get the best.
My thoughts exactly. LOL. Quite an unfortunate name for the more powerful version. Or well, I guess being a stripper would require a significant amount of strength.
R-Type??? Read the badge. No car is perfect but the stuff this guy is complaining about, I just don't get. We've had a 2013 C30 T5 R-design for the past six years now and it's been an awesome little car! It's an auto so I can't comment on the e-brake thing but it's certainly not an issue for the auto. The navigation controls do seem a bit weird but we skipped that option anyway. I've never once accidentally activated the wipers while starting the car and I have large hands. Clumsy much? It DOES lock out entry when you're driving, provided you engage that option in the menu.
I don't understand why is this guy is always negative? You watch and you'll see what I mean. You walk out and feel like very car sucks after his review.
Got as far as watching him complain about the shifting. I've never had an issue with the e-brake affecting the shifting in a manual c30. Go elsewhere for a realistic review.
I have a 2009 C30 T5 R-Design with the Platinum package and the Polestar upgrade. This car is a hidden GEM! Ignore this fuddy-duddy. These cars are freakin' fast, smooth riding and sexy as hell in real life. Just don't get the white. It looks awful. Best in blue or red. OH, and DON'T buy one with the automatic trans. ONLY buy the one with the 6-speed manual as the autos have many, many bad problems and don't last. And don't tell anyone, but this is the EXACT same car as the 2009-2014 Ford Focus ST. The EXACT same performance at HALF the price. The SAME car! In fact, THIS is the P1 chassis the Focus hatch was built on. Edit: I believe the Mazdaspeed 3 was also built on this same Volvo designed chassis.
It doesn't sound like complaining... he says that the polestar is "impressive" but that the car doesn't need it... okay i guess he complained a bit but it seemed fair.
Ya cus you don't enjoy driving faster than the speed limit obviously. I canceled my satellite radio after free trial I have a smartphone and auxiliary cord so I don't have to listen to what some dj thinks I should. Being able to drive a car that handles well is so much more important than anything else.
When I go shopping for a car I look at a few things, is the car small? is the car unique? does it have a sick audio system?. If those 3 questions are all Yesses then I like the car. I love tech and stuff like navi all this cool stuff they offer on cars but 99% of the time all I do is blast the music in the car. The Fiat 500 sport for instance has a Bose audio and Bluetooth and aux/USB and heated seats and a sun roof! That's all I need in a car. To much tech = Distractions! Nuff Said
I have a c30 I'm glad it doesn't have a bunch of dumb tech there's nothing wrong with the ergonomics the hand brake isn't in the way at all what is he talking about. I actually went from hating it to buying it 2 years ago lol
I usually like his reviews, but he obviously has issues with Volvo beause of the tech. The rear seats are considered decent by many other reviewers, not cruel and unusual, for example. Complaining about a groaning noise when the nav rises up? Really? It's a $25-$30K car, not a 5 series.
Adjust the steering wheel. None of your points are actually issues with the car… I’ve owned one for years and never hit the wipers when starting the car or any of your other made up antics.
i'm sure that they wanted to make that car that good that every idiot could drive it. But i guess they didnt know there are such idiots. i wondet how that guy can even breathe. unbelievable for me.
Volvos just get money from the chinese(smart move since they are convered in money at the moment) everything is still engineered and made in sweden. They just wanted to get someone to invest into them so they can come out with new technologies tht are now found on the s 60 n xc60 making there way through the line up. Everything is engineered and made in sweden though don't worry
Just got my 2009 Volvo C-30 T5 R-Design. All I can say is that I'm in love. Such a unique and fun car to drive, and you cannot deny it's looks.
I was waiting for him to complain, that you had to manually open the doors to get in and out.
This guy sounds like it is his first time ever to get in to a car.... ever
i've never had any complaints about the interior.....i'm wondering if this guy is just challenged
I love Volvo I own a 2012 Volvo c70 t5 with 250hp and is f.. sweet
I'm not keen on the interior its very basic
Back seats “cruel if not unusual”?? They are extremely comfy and spacious...
Volvo for life ...
Sounds like a Volvo hater. I'm not going to even watch this video in full.
Marnarabyss he is right about the bad stuff tho
He likes Volvos. He has praised other Volvo models.
Boy you showed him lol
Sound like a typical gringo, that people love big cars only.
One of my absolute favorite cars!
Wow! Is this guy on speed? Have to re comment The hand brake is on the correct side for a Right hand side driven car.
I'v done speed occasionally and weed and still never had any issues with handbrake. He a classic infomercial overactor incapable of closing a the sptr
BMW's name brand cars plus made out of tons of plastic. The car wizard give a fine example of a BMW $3 part but yet cost $600 to repair
This one should not talk about cars ... he knows nothing about good cars !
Totally agree with you. This guy is too big for this car anyways. He needs a large suv to fit him!
And I don't think he should be reviewing cars put him on the back of an elephant.
The ignition is there so if you have a crash you don't smash your knees into the ignition section featured on most cars. Comforts important, safety's first, and Volvo pride themselves on their safety records.
I drove from Atlanta to Waco, TX in my C30. I did not see one C30 for the entire trip. Fun car...
I drove a 2013 R just 3 weeks ago and I didn’t have any issues with the car besides distorted hands free talking and the cup holders are the best I’ve ever had with the exception of my Saab
This guy is a good reviewer. Take the lesson Car and Driver and Driving Sports.
I love my C30!!!!! I chose it over the audi and bmw. Super fun to drive!
Nice car. Bad review.
what you talking about dork. i drive a c30 t5 and its a great car.
I love cnet, ive been watching all their videos daily for like 2 years. Keep it up guys.
The best part of this car is just less technology intromission
The bluetooth streaming in these cars isn't for music. It's only for phone calls. I was surprised at just how bare bones the tech was in this thing when I first got mine. That being said, I adore these cars and still have one.
i really like the looks of this car but damn volvo get some decent tech in this thing.
He is so much better than any other American reviewer I've seen yet.
This dude is a pole star, if you get my drift.......
Hmmm torque steer and the back end frees up around the corners? Yep sounds like every powerful fwd car ever
I like this reviewer. He tells it as it is and he's not afraid to point out what's wrong. Other reviewers are usually too nice. I usually agree with most of the points he makes.
Lol no this guy's an idiot and over exaggerated everything this car is amazing and just because he's gangly and uncoordinated doesn't mean they put the e brake in the wrong spot.
it is the best car
I hate my UA-cam algorithm when it takes me to this
0-60 time?
I find the Volvo C30 has some odd blind spots when it comes down to the tech features.
It has navigation screen as an option, but no backup camera and push start button.
I would imagine you made that choice due to it's price tag.
The rh drive models in the uk do not have the same issues with the key and parking brake positioning. What is an emergency brake. ?
I dont know so much about cars but would an AWD system help out the C30 and that torque steer that Brian was talking about?
Yhe reason both SAAB and Volvo have green colors on dashboard is because it is the least distracted for your eyes during night driving. In Sweden we have a lot of dark nights per year 😮
The reason the lhd ones interior is all clumped together is because the centre console is a rhd console
This Guy need some medicine
bryan:the polestar really makes this car move faster.
*then a truck overtakes*
Don't use the hand break as an emergency break otherwise you're in trouble.
He should do every cnet show.
He probably drives a skoda lol.
Great review! Thank you for actually reviewing the livability of the car's interior and what doesn't work. Every other review gives basic spec sheet facts I could look up on my own.
Thumbs up for the Jersey plate.
@saboobu look up the c30 polestar, it incredible
I find it so strange that the engineer who designed the interior can't handle basic ergo's. Considering how demanding the job field is for the auto industry, one would think they'd be able to get the best.
Lol, that nav screen made such a funny little sound
Focus RS isn't sold in america... unfortunately. And this car has torque steer similiar to the speed 3 with the polestar package.
I feel sad just looking at this car.
I've driven this car. Not only is this guy hard to listen too, but the majority of the issues he complained about are just nonsense.
he's like a grumpy old reviewer...
Brian Cooley is the best! :)
Watching him in the Interior of the car is like watching white people in infomercials.
why would a compact car need a dvd system... this vehicle isn’t intended for families anyway
Give this guy a Yugo.
Reason you too old to drive this type of car bro
The description was like the personality of my dad...creepoy
I own 12 of these
My thoughts exactly. LOL. Quite an unfortunate name for the more powerful version. Or well, I guess being a stripper would require a significant amount of strength.
Bluetooth was NOT stock on these cars. You had to option it.
R-Type??? Read the badge.
No car is perfect but the stuff this guy is complaining about, I just don't get. We've had a 2013 C30 T5 R-design for the past six years now and it's been an awesome little car! It DOES lock out entry when you're driving, provided you engage that option in the menu.
Put this guy on TOPGEAR!!! Man is he entertaining to watch.
I don't understand why is this guy is always negative? You watch and you'll see what I mean. You walk out and feel like very car sucks after his review.
This guy be hilarious!!!
Yeah it would be really hilarious if I never ever saw him again.
1:50 "You can operate that !!! " then the woman showed up then I said : REALLY ?! YOU CAN CONTROL THE WOMEN JUST LIKE THIS ! LOL XD
honest review good job!!!
Got as far as watching him complain about the shifting. I've never had an issue with the e-brake affecting the shifting in a manual c30. Go elsewhere for a realistic review.

Mazda 3 is indeed the same ahared platform
craaaaaZzzyyyy fast.
Car doesn't seem to be the idiot. This reviewer is.
its great how honest he is! And I totally agree on the skipping the polestar thing. 250 hp is too much for FWD.
Did he even mention ONE thing he liked?
this guy us the best.
250 HP? You're kidding... The same chassis in a Ford Focus RS can handle over 350 HP.
It doesn't sound like complaining... he says that the polestar is "impressive" but that the car doesn't need it... okay i guess he complained a bit but it seemed fair.
Over all a good review, I would skip the platinum upgrade and the r-design. Cold weather package and sat radio is all you really need.
Ya cus you don't enjoy driving faster than the speed limit obviously. I canceled my satellite radio after free trial I have a smartphone and auxiliary cord so I don't have to listen to what some dj thinks I should. Being able to drive a car that handles well is so much more important than anything else.
Not feeling the navi. Also needs awd
he's right 273 turbo ft lbs is too much for a fwd car

Just saying everyone all the problems he lists are because the car is left hand drive
I have a c30 I'm glad it doesn't have a bunch of dumb tech there's nothing wrong with the ergonomics the hand brake isn't in the way at all what is he talking about. I actually went from hating it to buying it 2 years ago lol
my next car
Aside from the nav system this guy complained about the things other reviewers praised.
The way this guy says butt for the car… really irks me in a weird way😟😟
This guy probably drives a pt cruiser
Adjust the steering wheel. None of your points are actually issues with the car… I’ve owned one for years and never hit the wipers when starting the car or any of your other made up antics.
Don't be so dramatic missy !!!!
Was this Guy hired to hate on Volvo lmao!!!
i'm sure that they wanted to make that car that good that every idiot could drive it. But i guess they didnt know there are such idiots. i wondet how that guy can even breathe. unbelievable for me.
seriously awesome review
Volvos just get money from the chinese(smart move since they are convered in money at the moment) everything is still engineered and made in sweden. your reviews are comedy...lol. always makes me laugh
C-30 is not to be sold to a bargain basement J.Clarksson wannabe.
2:06 the first ever nav system that farts lol
is this a roast?
Watch j-lenos garage on this car way way way better
