Another State of the Art informative & opinionated great video, Mac ! Dense, super documented & nicely illustrated, with interesting thoughts & even wishes (I'm with you for the last one, that could be great, hopefully not expensive though but I have doubts). I remember the Ginkgo bottling I struggled a bit with at a friend so didn't bought it...I have the Ichiro's Malt MWR but it was still a "family blended malt", but those 2 bottlings are definitively a step forward & I hope other distilleries will follow, say up to at least 6 distilleries to make it more interesting blending wise imho...Based on your tasting, I'll favor the Mars "Malt Duo" for a try...Kanpaï & well done again Mac ! 👍 Exciting times indeed !

@@KanpaiPlanet Fantastic, Mac...more modestly I've been working on my side on several World blend recipies, but it is true I never tried a Japan only one, despite my decent wee collection, so some day maybe...I need a few more distilleries to make it less "big corporations blend" if you get the picture...And You're very welcome, you're doing great !
We need to chat about blending for sure. Would love some insights, especially now that single malts are in fashion. We need to bring blends back!

Maximum altitude for maturation could be achieved in space. I heard they were testing space maturation, but not sure if anyone is doing it in production yet. Feel sure people putting casks into orbit would be widely reported.
Let's get a cask to the top of Everest first, then take it from there...

So the companies only swapped new make but not barrels? I.e. the Malt Duo contains Chichibu spirit inside Mars barrels?

Wanted to give two likes for the video, but YT won't let me, LOL! I lost a bit on the difference between the 2 bottles ? Ichiro malt and chichibu malt are two different thing? any chance you will review the Nagahama whisky down the road? thank you

To answer your questions, Ichiro's Malt is made at the Chichibu Distillery.
As for reviewing Nagahama... I will put that request in the incredibly long pipeline! any particular whisky of interest?

Do Mars whiskies follow the new Japanese guidelines?
It depends on the bottle. Some do, some don't. Their labelling is pretty transparent though - if it says 'Japanese Whisky' on the bottle then they will be following the new guidelines. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please subscribe for more!

So, basically, Chichibu is the first to open since Shinshu, not since Hakushu :P
Very good! Shinshu was shuttered at the time with no sign of reopening. Explaining that subtlety would have required more words. Glad someone is paying attention!
