I’ve hear The Sound of Silence for 60 years. But I never heard the message until Distrubed. David brings so much emotion and understanding to this song. It raises in emotion in me that the original never touched. I think the video is unbelievable. I thought I might not like it when Distrubed did it live on Conan. But I was wrong. Just as much emotion flowed through. It’s David’s presentation that fills you with emotion and deep feelings. I love Distrubed version.
So many reactors saying they know the song, but never took notice. Classic case of hearing without listening. Genius lyrics and the most powerful rendition ever. Written as a warning in 1964 and nobody listened. All came to pass.
It wasn’t until I heard this version that I really heard the message!! Simon & Garfunkel whispered the message but Disturbed screamed it in my ear!!! Awesome 🎼🤗👍🏼
I'm 74 and when Simon & Garfunkel came out with the song, we all thought it was pretty and fun to sing. Missed the message altogether. Like you, I got it this time though! First heard it in the TV show, "The Blacklist." I had to back up to hear it again and couldn't wait to find out who did it. What a great cover and David Draiman & Disturbed have a new 74-year-old fan. Always loved the hard metal stuff though. You made a great comment!
I like it when you said you've heard the original but never payed attention to the lyricks. This is exactly what the song about!!! " People hearing without listening"!😊
I don't care how many times I watch these reactions I get chills and teary-eyed it's so full of emotion. S&G version was the warning. David's is yelling it like we didn't listen the first first time so maybe you will listen now, This video tells the story visually and I feel the Conan version let's the instruments tell the story.. Both with exceptional vocals from David! Great reaction!!
This song really shows you a different side to not only the band but also shows you the classically trained voice of David. He absolutely NAILED this cover
Thank you for your comments, I loved your reaction to this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul (okay so I'm 74). This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have. We are always touched by the stories you share regarding what this song means to you
This version was so good that even Paul Simon (original singer) commented on how well David did with it. He's never said that about anybody else's cover of it before.
I absolutely adore this song his ability to, somehow, "softly scream" keeps the meaning grounded while he puts all the more passion into the performance it gives me goosebumps every time
David said in an interview that the day he went in after the tracks were mixed he heard the playback and by the third time hearing it back he was crying his eyes out.
I've heard David Draiman's signature vocals as " screaming on key" by my teenager's after driving them to many metal concerts back in the 90's. I still listen to Disturbed ✌️❤️
As a child I heard the original many times, as I got older and understood the lyrics I felt the tune didn't match the message. Enter Disturbed, This is how it should be. I like the OG but this is a masterpiece.
I was born in 1970.. I just missed the generation this was originally written in, but I do understand the meaning of Simon and Garfunkel.. it was in the Vietnam war era.. The people were filled with peace and love, they didn't agree with the war. They were kept silent by the government.. The music was their voice, they could express themselves through the music.. Disturbed understands the meaning and depicts it well in the video.. at the end you can see the boat of musicians crossing the divide to reach the people.. the music will unite us and break the silence.. Well, that's my take on it
I love how this song just keeps gaining fans. I’ve been watching reactions to this for years. David Draimen has the best voice in rock! I read they are working on a new album and I cant wait to see where they go with their music.
I wouldn't say it is better than the original, I would say it is a relevant rendition,...a necessary sound for our generation, beautifully done 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I grew up with the original. It was always more of a folksy light kind of song and most of us never knew most of the words or their meaning. What Simon and Garfunkel gave us was a warning. What David and Disturbed gave us was anger that we did not heed the warning. I love the end of the video where the boat and all the instruments are sailing over to the people standing on shore with all of the music. It’s all about non-communication, not listening. And it’s worse today.
The songs have different vibes so there's really no comparing the two. They both exist in their repective places and both versions respect the message. The original is a song that's easy to listen to while Disturb's version is so powerful that it grabs your attention and holds it giving you a range of emotions. I love both versions but only have this one on my MP3/4 player.
At 6:17. yeah.. There's a lot in the original. But the melody is so pleasant that people miss out on the true meaning of the lyrics. That's why THIS VERSION.... Wakes you up!
Jesus, id heard the original from Simon and Garfunkel a few times and was fazinated from the softness of the Song, that sounded really touchy, but i d never EVER payed attention to those freakin deep Lyrics and the Message they bring with it. With this cover from Disturbed I got it, and i wont only remember it, its like they tattoed it in my SOUL! Awesome R eaction!
This song was from my parents generation. I grew up on that music. Of course I heard this song a lot, but it was never a favorite. It never made an impact. Then Disturbed covered it and I understood why it never made an impact. My father, as I am, also is a huge "cover will never touch the original" person. And this is his generation, so he even more sinks his claws into Simon and Garfunkel being the best. I have a hard time with it, as I also am very much a supporter of originals. The original music was great. The original lyrics were great. Together, they didn't quite match up.The music just couldn't cope with the impact the lyrics were trying to make. Disturbed made it a masterpiece. I have cried so many times listening to this version, because the lyrics were given a chance to make the impact that they so justly deserved to have a chance to make. Absolutely breath taking.
I’m probably your Dad’s age, but I agree with you. Disturbed totally owns this song now. Paul Simon is an incredible songwriter and David is an incredible vocalist. I have no clue who arranged the music or who did the video, but they are also incredible. All together, I think it’s a masterpiece!
I am so happy that you reacted to the official music video. The cinematograYphy is stunning And it makes the video a part of the band. Most interpret the three different versions as such. Simon and Garfunkel was a warning. I think that was 1964. Disturbed Is the anger that we have Yet heeded. The warning and Pentatonix Falls into the Middle offering Hope. David was raised as an orthodox Jew and when on to university to study the torah and to become a cantor. A cantor sings back what the rabbi has just read from the Torah. I Never understand What the rabbi is saying Because I do not speak Hebrew So I don't understand what the cantor is s aying. I only know that it is very beautiful. A cantor tends to have a Deep Rich and melodic Voice. Other videos That they do Hold on to memories, If I ever lose my faith in you, And a reason to fight. As always I loved your reaction
Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song for them and he said this is the redo of his hit. Hope people listen to the message of the song. The darkness of the video helps dramatize the lyrics.
As a young girl. The original by Simon & Garfunkel played on A M radio all the time. It was a totally different vibe. Didn't care for it, The first time I heard this version. I heard the words for the first time. The way it should be sung. I am still aw-struck!
I grew up with the original. This is the BEST! I am not a metal fan but became a David fan from this and bought the CD. He has an amazing voice and I must have heard this over a hundred times and still get chills.
Paul simon one of the original writers of the song personally told disturbed that this cover was the best he has ever heard, the best I have ever heard and I'm pretty old lol.
I loved this version first time I saw it but then I saw the 'live' version on Conan Show....and just wow....he sang it with a full orchestra...such a brilliant experience to see if you see the chance...
From one Islander to the next, happy to find your reaction channel! Love this song, gets the dopamine rush every time. Liked and subbed! Your neighbour from PEI :)
Never felt the lyrics until this cover. They are heavy metal but also did Genesis' Land of Confusion'. Great video cover. Need to try some Genesis also.
Okay so I've been watching your channel for a while. But have not noticed if you have any videos reactions to Dimash Qudaibergen the most talented vocalist known to mankind? Just start with his performance of a song called SOS on the Chinese show "Singer" from 2017 and just keep watching from there go to his official UA-cam channel Dimash Qudaibergen and just keep watching his second performance third performance for performance and of course he has all genres of music has pop music in English you will be completely amazed your life will never be the same
I know it's been suggested for you to watch the live version on Conan. I haven't seen in any of the comments that when he sang live, keep in mind that he was very sick with the flu. That's why he was seated for the whole performance. He said he was too weak to stand. Because of being sick, you can hear his voice cracks a few times just a little, but who cares?
PLEASE react to the live version in Conan. Even more powerful and raw. And David was very sick that night. It makes it even more amazing. They got a Grammy nomination for it 👌👌🔥🔥
While this is BRILLIANTLY done, and for me, changes the impact of the song, We have to remember that the the original writer has given us the poetry that makes this cover possible from a band (and an AMAZINGLY talented singer) that comes from a different genre and time SO impactful. Just another example of how a powerful message can be delivered, and what that might mean to a new generation of listeners…
Can I request that you react to 4 sisters from The Philippines called 4th Impact. These ladies have amazing harmonies and many songs on you tube . I suggest the following : Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen yes 4 little Philippino ladies tackle this iconic song Imagine John Lennon I'll be there jackson 5 Never enough & This is me from the movie Greatest showwman Bang Bang Jessie J their cover of this song has almost 184 million views Leave the door open Bruno Mars/silk sonic these ladies give the song a dreamgirls makeover any of the above will give you a great introduction to 4th Impact and their 750,000 subscribers around the world.
When Paul Simon heard their performance of this song live on Conan O'Brien's show, he sent them a message saying that it was better than the original by him and Art Garfunkel. If you haven't already heard the live version on Conan, you should do a reaction to it too.
the original had more of a melancholy feel to it, which I think sort of drowned out the message of the song, as they were speaking about the future. With this cover, it goes from a timid sort of somber news, to an almost hopefulness, and then then dread, despair, and frustration.
Is it better than the original? That is a bit like asking if the adult is better than the boy or the infant that he was. The infant, the boy, the man are all the same, and the adult could not exist without the infant or the boy. A truly aware adult knows that the infant and the boy are still an integral part of the man. This version of Sound of Silence is the angry but wise young man to the Simon and Garfunkle sad child, but the brilliance of Disturbed's version is that they also incorporate the melancholy and the hope of the original song. More mature, more reflective of the intervening years, yes. But better? Not possible when it is the same song. Not better, but perhaps more. We are all more than the children we once were, but not better.
the original was nice. folksie, nice. nice harmony... BUUTTTT... this version has a gut punch and the words have serious meaning. the original, the message gets lost in the niceness and the prancy little folksie rythym. don't get me wrong, I am a huge simon and garfunkel fan being a boomer and all. I've watched dozens of reactions because the vloggers tear up and cry, and are astounded and I get chills watching them listen to this song. and if you watch these reactions, 9 out of 10 times the first word is WOW! and the first sentence is "wow, just wow" and the third sentence is "i don't know where to start". Then back to WOW, and covering their face and wiping their tears. Fuck. How many songs in your lifetime have this reaction? I'm an old guy... not many. A handful.
Idk if you're familiar with Azealia Banks but you've got to check her out. She's one of the best artists out there. I think you'd have fun if you reacted to Anna Wintour by Azealia. And you content is just amazing
Don't forget to watch David Draiman's flawless performance on Conan. It's a must see!!
I'VE NEVER GOTTEN COLD CHILLS THROUGH AN ENTIRE SONG UNTIL I HEARD THIS SONG

It wasn’t until I heard this version that I really heard the message!! Simon & Garfunkel whispered the message but Disturbed screamed it in my ear!!! Awesome 🎼🤗👍🏼
Same for me, the original didn't touch me at all. This version makes me cry and touches my soul!
I believe that this is what Paul Simon was trying to say, but the music at that time couldn't support it.
I'm 74 and when Simon & Garfunkel came out with the song, we all thought it was pretty and fun to sing. Missed the message altogether. Like you, I got it this time though! Totally agree
Nicely put 👌
I like it when you said you've heard the original but never payed attention to the lyricks. This is exactly what the song about!!! " People hearing without listening"!😊
Hell yes it the next level to the original. It’s absolutely amazing
I don't care how many times I watch these reactions I get chills and teary-eyed it's so full of emotion. S&G version was the warning. Me too! Every time
Same here 😢 if this video was in colour it would not have the same effect.
Yes chills, no matter how many times I listen to the song
My favorite version ever.
David brought out the 'true' meaning of this song and the video is epic.
Brilliant video, Master vocals, Beautiful, Thanx
This song really shows you a different side to not only the band but also shows you the classically trained voice of David. He absolutely NAILED this cover
Um….YEAH HE DID !!!!!!!!!!

Last year for my mom's yahrzeit, that's Yiddish for anniversary of somebody passing, I posted this song.
Way better than the original!! Absolutely phenomenal cover! Love Disturbed!!
David Slays This With Passion & Pain...Exquisite
This version was so good that even Paul Simon (original singer) commented on how well David did with it. He's never said that about anybody else's cover of it before.
S&G also said that this song belongs to Disturbed now. 😊
He even put it on his social media page.
Simon and Garfinkel whispered the warning... and Disturbed screamed at us for ignoring it.
If there’s ever been a song that epitomizes the last 3 years, this is it.
Always gives me the goosebumps and pulls at my heartstrings!
Totally amazing performance for sure.
This is such a great cover... Watch them do it on the Conan show. it will blow your mind.
Much much better than this version, I agree. Conan O'Brien Show version is jaw-dropping.
Peace....
I absolutely adore this song his ability to, somehow, "softly scream" keeps the meaning grounded while he puts all the more passion into the performance it gives me goosebumps every time

The original being lighter was the warning. And this version is darker as the warning was not heeded. Simon said he like the version.
This song was written in 1964 when I was 18 by Simon and Garfunkle!
I love how this song just keeps gaining fans. I’ve been watching reactions to this for years. David Draimen has the best voice in rock! I read they are working on a new album and I cant wait to see where they go with their music.
OOH-WA-AH-AH-AH 💗😌🤘🏼
CHILLS EVERYTIME!!!
They weren’t people on the hillside- THEY WERE WOLVES- symbolic all right!
I wouldn't say it is better than the original, I would say it is a relevant rendition,...a necessary sound for our generation, beautifully done 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Omg, this was so powerfull emotional... DISTURBED all my feellings..

They didn't record it sad and somber but it truly is. Theirs issued the warning... which went unheaded. But today, now it's really what's happening 😢

Soul touching, mind blowing. I liked to orginal, but this cover really touched my soul. every time, i hear it.
The lyrics stand by themselves but disturbed hits the emotions of this song hard best cover I’ve heard by far
At 6:17. yeah.. There's a lot in the original. But the melody is so pleasant that people miss out on the true meaning of the lyrics. That's why THIS VERSION.... Wakes you up!
What for a great cover from Simon & Garfunkel / 1964! Thank you for the music from Germany!
Get ready for a religious experience! Shakes my very soul! It's a thing of beauty!
Paul Simons reaction to this version of the song says everything people need to know about it
Good reaction, brother. That voice is so VERY special!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 yes it's definitely better than the original 💯

Agree!! You should react to the live version its powerful
Conan version much better, in my opinion. It's jaw-dropping. 🤯
Peace....
This version is Def better to me, powerful. They do a great cover of Sting's If I ever lose my faith as well. Enjoyed the reaction.
It's an awesome cover. I hope he gets around to reacting to it.
I love how the parts when it transitions to a more full sound just grab you and demand your attention. Excellent cover

I enjoyed your reaction so much. You really absorbed it! 💥
Watched and liked your reaction awhile back. Viewed it again and like it all over again.

Hauntingly beautiful...an epic masterpiece. Jaw-dropping.

He was even sick with the flu when he appeared on Conan. I seem to recall hearing he got nominated for a Grammy for that performance.
Paul Simon after having heard this said the song is now Disturbed's.
From one Islander to the next, happy to find your reaction channel! Love this song, gets the dopamine rush every time. Liked and subbed! Your neighbour from PEI :)
There is a video on UA-cam where he sings it live. You should listen to that one too, it's awesome!
Never felt the lyrics until this cover. They are heavy metal but also did Genesis' Land of Confusion'. Great video cover. Need to try some Genesis also.
Lyrics seem to apply to today more than ever
This version brings home the message that Simon &Garfunkel were trying to put out there. IMO. Brilliant, very very thought provoking.
This is my favorite version
This one will blow your mind, Newfie! So powerful!
You need to see the Live Version of this song on Conan O'Brien's Show. Even being sick with the Flu, David Nailed It !!!!!
I think he was "Down With The Sickness"!
I agree with you, “epic.”
Okay so I've been watching your channel for a while. But have not noticed if you have any videos reactions to Dimash Qudaibergen the most talented vocalist known to mankind? Watching reaction videos has become my dirty little secret!! Probably listened to 500
I know it's been suggested for you to watch the live version on Conan. I haven't seen in any of the comments that when he sang live, keep in mind that he was very sick with the flu. That's why he was seated for the whole performance. He said he was too weak to stand. Because of being sick, you can hear his voice cracks a few times just a little, but who cares?
Great point
PLEASE react to the live version in Conan. Even more powerful and raw. And David was very sick that night. It makes it even more amazing. They got a Grammy nomination for it 👌👌🔥🔥
The original was more like hopeful - please listen to me, while this one is angry - why didn't you listen to me! I love both version.
How is it possible you did not see this video or hear this song until 11 days ago LOL welcome aboard but wow
While this is BRILLIANTLY done, and for me, changes the impact of the song, We have to remember that the the original writer has given us the poetry that makes this cover possible from a band (and an AMAZINGLY talented singer) that comes from a different genre and time SO impactful. Can I request that you react to 4 sisters from The Philippines called 4th Impact. These ladies have amazing harmonies and many songs on you tube . I suggest the following :

The origional was done in a folksy jingle style. Couldn't be more different that this cover.
Definitely react to the live version, 2016 on CONAN O'Brien. It's incredible..even more so than this studio version~ Great reaction, btw!
Conan O'Brien version is jaw-dropping.
Live version....Conan O'Brien Show
It's jaw-dropping 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯
You'll forget all about this one.
Peace......
When Paul Simon heard their performance of this song live on Conan O'Brien's show, he sent them a message saying that it was better than the original by him and Art Garfunkel. If you haven't already heard the live version on Conan, you should do a reaction to it too.
I enjoyed your reaction.
Insane ❤
Try to go to the live version on Conan 2016. it was epic!
Better, better, BETTER than the original!
You are probably remembering the Simon and Garfunkel version.
the original had more of a melancholy feel to it, which I think sort of drowned out the message of the song, as they were speaking about the future. With this cover, it goes from a timid sort of somber news, to an almost hopefulness, and then then dread, despair, and frustration.
Welcome aboard !
Is it better than the original? That is a bit like asking if the adult is better than the boy or the infant that he was. More mature, more reflective of the intervening years, yes. But better? Not possible when it is the same song. Not better, but perhaps more. We are all more than the children we once were, but not better.
We as human beings must stop our wicked ways or else
the original was nice. folksie, nice. nice harmony... BUUTTTT... this version has a gut punch and the words have serious meaning. the original, the message gets lost in the niceness and the prancy little folksie rythym. don't get me wrong, I am a huge simon and garfunkel fan being a boomer and all. I'm an old guy... not many. A handful.
I think it was way better than the original and they thought so to.
Best version evet
God is giving a Warning to Society...But we are not listening ...God says to be still & be silent & you will hear his voice.....

Idk if you're familiar with Azealia Banks but you've got to check her out. She's one of the best artists out there. I think you'd have fun if you reacted to Anna Wintour by Azealia. And you content is just amazing
His vocals in the live version is on Conan is even better than this version. Impossible I know, but true. And he was sick on Conan.
