Glad to see you had success with your method. I had success a year ago, by dropping the driver side exhaust manifold, back two spark plugs, and the driver side valve cover. As you did, I removed the driver seat. The unit came out with a rotation of the gear near the fire wall. I had the original unit rebuilt by the Lares corporation. Rebuilt unit went in pretty much as you might expect opposite the order that I removed it. Ace

Great job. I did this on my 64 Fairlane. The box was shot so I took a sawzaw and cut the shaft. I then put in a rack and pinion set up.
