- DIY, I retro fit a 2014 Lexus IS250 F sport steering wheel (XE30/AVE30) onto a 2004 Lexus IS300, it was hard, just figuring the wiring can be a hassle, but the end result is nice. So this method will make your horn, cruise and paddle shifter work with no lights coming on the cluster, the volume, display and Bluetooth will not work, just make a note before doing so.
The original founder of this swap wrote up a guide for retro fitting a 2006-2013 IS, but I did it on a 2014, same concept, but this steering wheel looks so much cooler.

Well I've been studying the original guy who did this on the IS300 FORUM, THIS vid made it way easier to accomplish that task, especially since I already installed an aftermarket stereo for the additional features on the stereo. Good shit man, gonna hit up the SACRAMENTO LEXUS salvage yard and get this swap done this weekend. Gon be nice having paddles in my car and bluetooth at my finger tips.... 👌😎
Hell ya that was dope ! Thanks for an in depth video I've always wondered how to do this but showing us that you can just swap the air bag from old to new makes it much more affordable and manageable.
I tried to get in-depth as much as I can, notice that other video on these swap shows you that it can be done, but doesn’t show you how to do so,..so I decided to give the small tutorial on it, it doesn’t take long to do it, just wiring up the wires take the longest.
There is additional steps when adding the Bluetooth features if you've installed an aftermarket stereo for the options on the steering wheel to work. Not too many though, the original guy who didnthis has photo by photo install on the LEXUS IS forum.
@@SokhomGarage would this work on a IS260 2008?
@@michaelgarbrahjnr.6177
Do you mean swapping this exact steering wheel on a 2008 IS250? It should work, I don’t see why not, if all things considered, it should be a direct replacement.
@@SokhomGarage yeah I mean the newer Lexus steering wheel would it fit into a 2008 Lexus is250
This is what I'm talking about.. My man THANK YOU for the tutorial. Great Job!
You sire are a legend hats off to you :) Love this kind of content
This is amazing. Makes me wanna leave the auto trans in when I boost it lol
Congrats on the mod!!! I was going to do this but the airbag is extremely expensive
Yeah it can be quite expensive, but I pieced mine together over time, cost me like $295 total to piece it out, and airbag, I got lucky, found it at a junk yard for $60
Vey good video man, and informative 💯
This was awesome the wiring is definitely the hardest part
It wasn’t that bad, this took me 40min to do.
Hell yeah! Going to find that wheel and buy a soldering gun ASAP
Excellent video. I managed to hook up the audio controls to an Android unit. Just use key 1 to brown, and key 2 to grey. White to audio ground. And program with swc settings in android app. Boom thanks again!
No can bus module needed as it's an analog output which the chinese android can read
Such a great video thanks!
Bro I totally just bought a passenger seat from u last weekend LOL I saw someone do this on my.is and have been tryna find a decent write up for awhile now so this is dope
Yeah man, I’m also going to do a video on JDM power folding mirror on the IS soon, but yeah, I’m also a member on MY.IS forum too.
@@SokhomGarage I just did this last weekend bro 10/10 i had some quick release wheel before and missed the shifters
Well done
You should do a video of you driving the car and showing everything working
Just got a 2011 rx350 and i want to do this. But i cant find the steering wheel wire harness color codes... How can i go about finding them?
Would the process be the same for the 2000 gs?
Has anyone tried a newer wheel that’s heated?
Hey do you think this mod would be similar for a 2JZ Lexus GS300 2002 (It has those up/down shift buttons)?
From my understanding, since the steering only contains just the up/down shift, cruise control, and nothing more, it should work
Hi bro. Do u have any video of the car running and changing gear, thnks mate
Have started my upgrade and as posted before got the radio controls working. However the clock spring is different, so I need to find a clock spring from a 3is to suit and hopefully the same setup.
Have also noticed that the wheel bore on the 3is is smaller and doesn't push down the indicator cancelling mech + and the 1is clock spring properly. Did you notice this?
No I didn’t notice it, but I’m not having any issues, and mines sits pretty flushed.
Hi great video, I bought the AVE30's steering wheel but it has a 12pin connector, which doesn't match with the description's 10pin diagram. Was your one 12pin or 10pin and how did you figure out the difference of wires? Thanks!
Mine was a 10pin connector, I’ve found a wiring diagram on a Supra forum, it should be the same for the AVE30 minus the extra 2 pins, and you’re only going to use 6 pins because XE10 don’t come with anything on the steering wheel but up/down shift, horn and cruise control, I’ve posted a snap shot of the wiring in this video @ 8:44 of this vid.
Can this be installed on this sc430 ?
a tip dude, i film on youtube also. just a tip, look into the lens of the camera, i know we have a tendancy of looking into the little screen on the camera but trust me looks way better looking into the lens
Thanks, I will try.
@@SokhomGarage solid video on the steering wheel. How did you find one with the airbag? Or did you buy it as a set? I can only find the wheel with no airbag and no front cover
@@blitzmonster1
It took me awhile, but they were bought separately from a junkyard.
Could I use the regular is250 steering wheel?
Yeah, you can, I just choose the F sport steering wheel, cuz no one has done it yet, but it’s the same concept.
3:20 You did it the hard way just get a pin and push the middle tab in and it slides right out. EZ
So have you found any way to get those missing functions to work? Perhaps with an aftermarket stereo?
There is a way to get them to work, I just didn’t feel like doing it, also in the description, I’ve linked the original owner of the swap, it’s more detailed, and can help with these functions.
@@SokhomGarage ive done it before for the radio
@@asian380 did you use a loom kit for aftermarket stereo
*I want to update my 04 GS300 steering wheel. So I can find a later model GS300, or maybe any other GS series steering wheel and it will work?*
As long as you know what wires goes to what, it should work.
@@SokhomGarage I won't do the work. Lol. Just wondering if it can be done, so I'll get the wheel, and get my mechanic to do it. Wiring is one thing I don't mess with, nor have patience for.
Yes, it definitely can be done
Yoo did it ever turn out okay? I’m working on my 01 GS300 right now doing this
Thanks for the video, I can’t wait to do the same. What’s the specs on the red seats? I want to do the same to match my ‘23 GX
Seats are upholstery, I bought them from leatherseats.com, check out my video on it.
@@SokhomGarage thank you dude! I was looking at it, you made it look easy! I can’t wait to try it too
hey, im in the middle of the install, what did you soder the cruise control wire to?
Wire it to the white/black wire, (audio)
cool, thanks
i did upgrade with same original steering but now when i turn left or right some grinding noise comes from behind the steering light plastic touching and squeeking
can guide what it could be
Hum…grinding? Probably just take off and look at it again if you can, I’m not sure what it could be.
You may need to trim down the metal guide that was removed. It is most likely the clock spring is too loose and rattling around in the back
Will this work ina 2is ?
I’m not sure, but wiring from a 2IS and 3IS is very similar, it could be just plug and play, but don’t take my word for it.
Can you do this same steering wheel for a 2009 lexus ?
You can, this concept was originally based off 2nd IS.
@@SokhomGarage would you consider do I'n it to mine for a compensation? Anyway I can reach out to you to discuss it?
Sorry, currently with my schedule, it’s hard for me to work on anything right now, I haven’t been home for quite some time now.
@@SokhomGarage I definitely would like for you to do it for me please give me a shot and possibly make a video of it let me know if you change ur mind.i know you probably have allot on your plate but it would be much appreciated if you could thank you.
Where did Yu buy the wheel ?
I got it from a wreck 14 IS250 f sport, locally at my junkyard
Can u build me one?
Collect all the parts and I’ll build one
Good Job gone do the same thanks !👍👍👍sub,!
No, thank you so much for checking out the video
