Poor Blixa having nothing to do. Nick's musical direction since Boatman's Call made his role in the band obsolete. He had no choice but to leave after holding out for a few more years 😥

I cry every time I hear this. It's like.... A real miracle has happened and the human being can't stand it - like the presence of God. Love. The most beautiful song about the union of souls. And that question - it's like he can't believe it's really happening right now. And that bright light on Nick's face and his blue eyes up ... how I love this song and this artist!!!

It was the period that I was texting the guy whom later I fell in love with. We had only met few times over months, always in a company. We were coming close to meet for the first time to actually kiss or so, and he posted this song on his Instagram, with the lyrics “I think of you in motion and just how close you are getting, and how every little thing anticipates you; all down my veins my heart strings call: are you the one that I’ve been waiting for?”. I remember it like it was yesterday. He always told me he had never been in love. It was obvious, to me, he was referring to some person he had fallen for, or at least liked very much. I imagined that person to be me. In the course of the following weeks I found out he didn’t want anything from me except from sex. I was in the awe of this person, I’ve never been in love like that. I got my heart definitely broken in two months. I stopped talking to him because I didn’t want him to be disgusted by my feelings, which I naively had been watering with songs like this one. When my heart was recovered, one year and a half later, he told me he was even upset that I fantasised above the music, since he never dedicated anything to me specifically.
I’d have understood his post in the exact same way… Such powerful words.

Boatman's Call is a stunning and captivating piece of work from Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds. It is quite a long way from the noise mongering of his early seminal band Boys Next Door and his early records with the Bad Seeds. Nick Cave grew a little more accessible with each release throughout his discography and his greatness culminated with Boatman's Call. A beautiful album of faith, hope, hopelessness, frustration and despair. On "People Ain't No Good", Cave expresses just how disappointed he is with people. He croons hopelessness and despair on "Where Do We Go Now But Nowhere?" yet faith and hope resonate on "(Are You) The One I've Been Waiting For?". Here he longs for love as it draws near. Finally, It is the classic and somber "Idiot Prayer" where Nick Cave feels life slipping away and senses his end. A startling song. Arguably Nick Cave's best record.

this is a heartbreaker, one my favourites, what a great artist Nick.
This album and these songs came after PJ Harvey dumped him because of his drugs problem. He sobered up and turned his pain into one of the greatest break-up albums ever.
