Ill always advocate for switch axe but longsword great sword hammer and weapons like that are always a simple popular and also skill expressive weapons since all of them are simple but only good once it clicks.
aaaaaaaaaaand again I am maining switch axe lol. I never get fed up of switch axe. I did almost cry when I thought my zero sum discharge latch on ability was removed but then realised I just need to hold circle and triangle and not just press. So good. I do personally hope they bring back a bit more of that hit stop effect from world and add a bit more ooomph to the sound effects but time will tell. Not sure I am a big fan of taking chip damage with sword counter either. On some moves its a LOT of chip damage. Looking forward to final release of game. Great upload mate.
morph into the axe every time you dodge when in sword mode..it cover the distance really well. idk if it still doable in wilds, but what i know thats how SA dodge in worlds
Don't forget, one of the most important mobility aspects of the Swaxe is the ability to transform attack after a roll. It gives you a lot of extra distance and can especially help in getting away from the big monster attacks.
I'm going to miss Soaring Wyvern Blade as a follow up to ZSD. I wish they add it back in the expansion and allow us to follow it up with Full Release Slash.
I used to main Hammer and SA in World and older titles, and I was not sure for Wilds because during Beta SA didn't felt that great for me. But your video just convinced me to go for it without any hold back ! Great Video !
Once a switch axe, always a switch axe. No shields, see the whites of the monsters eyes as you drive your sword into its wounds! So glad wilds has a primary and secondary weapon system...now i can carry 2 switch axes into the hunt !
Switch axe looks awesome! I will consider that as my secondary weapon. The gunlance has won my favor. It feels very comfortable for me. Though i do wish it looked a bit more flashy in terms of its shell explosions.
I planned on spending today testing out SA in full so i'm not just using GL, but this video just saved me a lot of time and I can simply enjoy it, thanks..
Actually one of the strongest weapon in wilds rn. You can technically have infinite combo with this weapon not caring about stamina at all which is insane. My only issue is definitely the mobility... and we can't do the Zero Sum Clutch Claw which in my opinion one of the best moves from MH world. I hope we could like.. move more in Sword mode.. or at least buff Axe mode mobility.
For the first time in a long time, I’m actually kind of struggling figuring out which weapons to consider. Maybe it’s because we can actually take two weapons with us or that some weapons I normally skip are fun while those I normally use got slapped with their things getting removed. As for Switch Axe, it has always been an on and off weapon for me. Enjoyed liked the weapon but part of me has felt like I’ve always used it the wrong way (even though it was the only weapon that allowed me to beat Fatalis Solo back in Iceborne). At least I have three months to consider my options. (LS, DB, HH, Hammer, Lance, SA. SS And IG kind of got pushed off to the side for me while GS and CB are ones I usually skip, but the new focus mode might make GS even better). I guess we should cross our fingers in hope that we may get another beta test before February. Hopefully one that grants access to the training dummy since it would be nice to have something to train on as far as wounds would go.
One tip you didn't mention is that after a roll dodge, if you press the morph button, you perform a morphing attack from axe to sword or sword to axe, which allows you to lunge your forward. That way you don't have to put Evade extender or Evade in your build if you don't want to waste the space.
I wasn't feeling the Switch Axe at first, but after playing a bit it finally clicked with the new changes and now I'm so back Also, one thing I noticed is that the sword mode counter, while it doesn't get triggered during a roar, it does seem to have i-frames (?) for it, the counter acts as when it misses but you don't get stunned with the roar so you get a hit in
It feels quite a bit different. In general I do think there are a lot of cool additions, but a bunch of Rise Sunbreak stuff has been removed. My main gripe is that phial ticks are reverted to only being available in swordmode again, as it was in World. This alone makes axe mode feel like its kinda useless again. Aside from recharging your sword gauge I don't see why you wanna stay in it unless they add rapid morph back in. But since morphing attacks have kinda reverted to World state as well I don't see it being as useful as it was in Rise either? Idk, I do find the changes a bit weird, it currently kinda boils down to "do discharges and reload your sword gauge via double chop"
@@navarre2142 recharging your sword gauge is specifically why you would want to be in axe mode. I believe only the axe counter is an offset attack as well.
@@pezdispencer113 But that's the problem. Your axe form exists to use the other mode. There's no real benefit to using the axe, for the axe. Everything you do with the axe, you do to benefit the sword. being able to amp the axe form in rise at least had a base synergy for the two forms. In regards to the offset, I found it's too unreliable to use compared to the sword form counter. Sure you don't get the offset benefit but at least it's easier and safer to pull off because the offset window is stupidly tight especially with how weird the monsters attack arcs are now.
My biggest problem with switch axe in world was that you could only do zero sun discharge when sword gauge was maxed. You couldn’t use the regular one again until the sword gauge ran out. So I’m glad they made it optional
While I do like the idea of full release slash, I feel like it's very ineffective in 95% of scenarios you're in. The only time you can fully make use of it properly, is if the monster is downed for awhile. And even then, you better hope the monster doesn't struggle around too much. But even then, you have to use your elemental discharge prior, and with the explosion that happens because of it, it sets you back a bit too far for your full release slash to actually make contact. So you got a really cool, decently high damage move that requires a commitment of five or more seconds of being animation locked, that will more often than not, miss.
what I learned so far the sword mode counter is closer to something like a guard point rather than foresight slash, at least that's how I feel carted after a sword counter lol
the counters kind of suck honestly, since you can still take a lot of damage even when timing it right. either this depends on the attack you are countering or there is some kind of hidden offset value that decides whether the monster goes into the offset animation or not. and if it doesn't you still get a significant amount of damage so it's not a true counter like with the long sword. probably not going to be super useful in later fights when monsters are much more dangerous just to get a couple of hits in. probably much better to just dodge and attack
SwitchAxe is outstanding in wilds started using it in sunbreak after the end game and went back and redid all the hardest monsters because the SwitchAxe is just that much fun to play with!
20:10 those are actually not wounds, but are called weak spots. Hence why a wound actually showed up in the same area after he did his focus strike. They open up after or during specific attacks monsters do, and then they go on cooldown for a lil bit. It’s a really cool new mechanic and I actually have a clip on my channel of me using it to punish Balahara’s dig attack so that I can save my screamer pods for when he tries to flee.
I've put 10 hours into the beta and I just can't get the counter attacks down. I don't really understand where the parry windows are for the two attacks, and I'm starting to think that you can't parry everything like you can with CB/Longsword.
The sword form is a bit more flexible. it's whenever a monsters attack connects with the hunter during the short parry stance. The axe offset though is a massive pain in the ass to get right. Your attack has to connect at the same time as the monsters attack. Not the wind up before, or the recovering state after. I've only managed to pull it off once myself.
So you actually can do focus strikes on Ray Dous face when he finishes doing one of the stronger rail gun shots, just fyi cause you missed a bunch of them jajaja
This barrel feels like a huge step back compared to Rise and even Iceborne. not having a training dummy that can "hit back" means you cant test offset, perfect dodges, perfect guards or Clashes which feels like a huge oversight.
@GenesicShinZyraelKai And not bother to take the positives? The training area in rise was the best to date since you could test out counters, guard points and I-frames. It also had moving targets for gunners. You could also set it to use projectiles or slams as well as inflict status effects including stuns to give you an idea how they work. Going from a full active training dummy to an inanimate barrell is a massive step back. Especially with the new actions that require a monster to be attacking.
Was hoping for once about a good switch axe, it's crap, ZSD is not even a good final move Will wait for ICE mod on Mhwilds like I did on mhw. Crapcom hitting again
Yes switch axe guide! Sadly i wont have the money for it for a while and then eventually there will be a dlc,why are all the good game worth the expensive cost?
Bro doing hype content when switch axe is super bad on that iteration, thanks to that kind of content ppl gonna parrot you and devs gonna let it super bad, kekw
Guys, its still a BETA there is time to flush out the weapons based on player feedback. Yes there are changes to ALL weapons and thats ok give it time and wait until full release, so you can adjust to the changes.

Another thing about the full release slash is that you can follow it up with the double axe slash to get a bunch of sword meter back immediately
8:02 Axe Counter
8:39 Sword Counter
I know what you're here for.

Is it bad that I can’t decide what weapons to use this gen? Everything is so good it’s like World all over again 😭
Basically my only concern is the endgame and the performance, the latter of which I’m certain will be improved at launch. Hyped up

As a Swaxe main I was looking for content just like this, thank you so much! Nice choice on the Undernight music too! 🎶
Rate the Switch Axe in MH Wilds from 1-10
Which weapon should I cover next?
Hammer because bonk go brr
10 imo, feels the best its ever been.
Definitely a 9 only because Hunting Horn is a 10.
Comparing it to the SA in rise I’ll give it a 7
10 for sure
