yessir. it's hard to think of a cheap distortion pedal that offers more than the DS-1. In this video I highlight the commonly overlooked but incredible features of this glorious orange pedal. From grunge to blues, the DS-1 can do it all. dig it.

I wouldn't call it underated as it is the best selling effect pedal of all time
It’s because eexperienced guitarists kinda forget about it for that reason.
Thanks for the input Rivers
thanks genius
yeah i’d rather dubb it one of the most “judged” pedals, some think its trash and some have preached this debate before of it being one of the best distortions of all time, which tbh… isn’t really a debate ahah
@@weenibeenies the same conversation has happened with the metal zone
I like that you used Even In His Youth as an example at 0:25. Such an underrated Nirvana song that doesn't get the spotlight very much. Super catchy riff, fun to play.

Wasnt sure what somg it was but new it was Nirvana. Such distinct guitar parts
I like how he's doing more distortion videos because people keep saying he scared to use it😂
I don’t know much about this guy but he appears to be a Strat player…
@@gunkanjima3408 strats sound great disorted
@@kurtcobain8316 You would know... 😜😅
It is the most renowned distortion pedal ever how could it get more attention
The DS-1 is like the first pedal everyone gets
Bro thought we wouldn't notice his Cobain pic at 0:04 💀💀
beautiful
Isn't the DS1/2 like one of the most popular distortion pedals of all time?
yeah lol
One of the most popular pedals, period
Yeah, literally, my first work was in a big music store and this pedal was the most seller. Since amateurs to kinda profesionals. This guy needs to touch more grass.
I love this pedal because it is one of the best to use when playing In my youth by Nirvana
I’d say it’s better for its versatility each slight turn of a tone knob makes it sound completely different it can do anything from a slightly sharper and louder lead tone to some chuggy c# stuff
0:25 sounds like Even in His Youth by Nirvana
it is
The DS1 is the main pedal I use on my rig. Definitely the most versatile.
You can go from boost to fuzz almost
yeah i use it for smashing pumpkins siamese dream tones
“underrated” bro😭
been using since release (I am old) and consider this the most indispensable pedal in existence.
Been using a boss DS1 pedal for years and years it is absolutely my go to distortion pedal.
I wish there was a metal version of this guy on YT shorts.
Even in the pedal's youth
It was Something
🔥vid fr fr
Y’know what other pedal people don’t talk about enough? The ZOOM G1X multi-effects processor. I’ve had the thing a couple months and it’s now my main pedal.
It’s the only distortion pedal I have ever had and I love it.
Never thought of using it as an overdrive..
Might have to try that.
DS-2 best pedal
I play bass but I love these videos you make😊
A lot of times I actually don’t turn the distortion part up and just use it like an EQ pedal, turning the tone to max and dist. To 0 makes for some cool retro sounds
Who knew that keeping things reasonably priced is good
DigiTech Distortion Factory is an actual underrated pedal.
I have a ds1 and it's soooo good
More attention? Literally, every school rock band has it.
I actually have a anniversary edition in black that I love and will never get rid of lol
what amp do you use? is it already distorted?

I love my ds1!!!!!!!!! Always have
If only it didn’t kill my volume level every time I step on it. Hate having to boost a pedal to keep its output at unity.
Sounds like yours is broken or something
@@f1rebreather123 if they’re broken it’s all three I’ve ever ran. They all have very low output compared to my other drive pedals.
@@jeremydiehl3111They are low output. But the DS1 doesn’t get on too well with really high output pickups anyway.
Otherwise, you are getting a boost in volume. The whole ‘unity’ thing is not something we are very good at with our ears. It’s the mid scoop that misleads people with the DS1.
Please next vid on how to get 70s tone 🙏
Its True took me a wile tô realize
Using ds-1 from a year and still i don't need more overdrive /dist pedal "
The ds-1 is very easy to use and very bright and clear tone "
It's a versatile pedal ... And i love it ❤️🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
It can be a great pedal, but most beginners would be better off with a RAT or RAT clone due to the versatility they have. The DS1 really shouldn't be the first thing always recommend to new players.
Why?
@@minibikegarage1577 The DS1 can be really finicky with some amps (accentuates too much fizz and treble). A lot of clean amps that beginners start off with can get harsh with the DS1 (A slighty gainy marshall works best).
The RAT clones like the Joyo Splinter and Mosky King RAT are not only a better deal than a RAT, but they are much more versatile, letting a beginner try out overdrive, distortion, and fuzz all in one. You can literally put one of those down and hit any rock genre you want, from blues to Hendrix to doom metal. The only thing it can't do is some modern metal that is tight, but even then with a boost it can work.
My mum asked me what I wanted for Xmas last year. So I’m like what would I like but can’t justify buying right now. I just said a Boss DS-1 because I usually buy cheap plastic effects pedals and just to have a DS-1 would be awesome.
Dude, it’s the best selling effect pedal of all-time. Just because the boutique hipsters don’t know how to use it, doesn’t mean it’s underrated
Cool video
i hate how over in the us or europe boss pedals are cheap but they get boutique level expensive in my country because of import taxes
THIS PEDAL CAUSES ME SO MUTCH PROBLEMS
Nice Kurt Cobain wallpaper ya got there.
Okay I didn't expect him to play grunge
Early 90's, probably Rip magazine, had a reprint interview with pre fame Nirvana. Talking on gear they wrote EF-1 as the distortion pedal he used.
I spent a long time looking for a pedal that didn't exist probably because somebody sloppily transcribed a poor quality audio recording that said DS-1.
Ah, the mythical EF-1. If only I had that, the power it holds, I would be unstoppable.
Idk i like the ds1 in the situations where it works just those situations are very rare for me
DS-2 > In my opinion. DS-2 is such an versatile pedal. It's basically an High gain OD, Distortion and Fuzz at the same time
Rat > DS-2 in my opinion. I hate my ears and my neighbors.
My dude your guitar face is funny don't you dare change it you are who you are don't let people hurt you you will do great and I promise you will do not break this habit if you do you can't go back keep doing what you love
you'r vids are fun
is it good for metal?
What's that grunge song you played tho???
Even In His Youth - Nirvana
Next video why the fender strat is the most underrated guitar shape
????????????????????? UNDERRATED HOW????????
DS-1 is cool. Blues Driver is much better imo for OD.
I have a boss ds-1
Does it handle metal
Not slamming the pedal but mine sucked and it was never loud enough. Had level maxed and it still wasn’t in unity with my clean channel. Tried a friends and had the same problem
You should do a video on frank zappa
I love how this kid is still pretty new at guitar and wants to teach people on here like he's some kind of guru 😂
Under rated is a statement that is tossed around without it's actual meaning anymore. "Yo this is so under rated!" It's been out for 40+ years and sold 10 million units by 2007. This is almost everyone's first distortion pedal next to the RAT.
I have 4 of them haha
Do a room tour
Pretty cool. $50?
This dude is terrified of disto
the ds1 is literally the most popular pedal to have ever been made what?
I've never owned a distortion pedal. Never understood that. If you love your amp you don't need it.
your opinion means nothing.. stupid comment

Just realized, what guitar are you even using? Looks like a jag but the controls are off...

Malcolm mclaren??? 😂
What about for heavy metal
But... Will It chug?
DS-2=goat
3 tone knobs? maybe in a modded version…
how the fuck is this pedal underated bro every guitar player i know owns or has owned one lol
How is it underrated
I think the SD-1 is of more value. DS-1 is only good for mid-scooped distortion. The SD-1 is a much more useable sound across the board.
3 "tone knobs"....disqualified!
DS 2>>>
Hey I’m litterally right here
That ocd pedal sounds so much fatter. The ds-1 is great but always sounds a bit thin.
Nothing about that pedal is underrated.
Lets keep it quiet i love my ds-1 had one for a very long time
DS-1 or 2 and Proco Rat is all you need. Run through octaver you pretty much get everything there is.
I built a guitar pedal
Not convinced until it sounds like a bad monkey
He is doing it for clicks….clicks, I tell you!
It's almost as good as the crazy sick monkey overdrive boss baby pedal
If you like the DS1 wait until you try the DS2 buddy
Aren't the DS1 and DS2 the same though?
I thought they both had the same circuit except the DS2 has Turbo setting.
@BarrySmoother yes the DS2 is a DS1 but when you have it on turbo it gives you a nice midrange boost. It's not that it has extra gain. The DS1 is just lacking in the mids
Its good but nowhere near as good as that ts9
Ah yes. Why the unpopular and fringe DS-1 used by unpopular and unknown musicians Kurt Cobain, John Frusciante, and Steve Vai
Kurdt Kobain🫶
Boss sucks, DOD all the way!
i wouldn't call that "underrated"
OH MY GOD YOURE TELLING ME YOU CAN TURN THE GAIN UP *AND* DOWN? OH MY GOD
Nope 😂
Are you baiting people to gain engagement?
Mocking the tone of an OCD? Seriously??
The most popular distortion pedal ever? Is the most underrated? Do your homework and expand your horizons.
Nice clickbait son
First
bro has to stop with the unnecessary hand movements at the beginning of every video
He does not know how to dial in a tone
Very weird and confusing fake zoomer facial expressions and body language
