Growing up in New Orleans is so special. We went to high school football games to hear the band, not watch the game! Super Sunday’s and second lines. So proud of Jon Baptiste!

People like Batiste should be more common... He talks about the spirit of music, which is much forgotten due to monetization. You really have to look for it but the people who notice it have gifted ears.

I hope he keeps doing what he does because he's amazing on it and being a black man that grew up on Jazz himself and my father being a saxophone player I give thanks to individuals like himself that put themselves out there to really push forward for this generation of music for the 21st century of individuals that can learn something or two from him.

That's NOLA baby! Being from New Orleans, Jazz has always been a part of life for me. It's definitely not dead, it's just not commercially pushed/appreciated like other genres. Like he said a lot of Hip-Hop has been influenced by Jazz. For example: "Hypnotize" by Biggie is from a song called "Rise" by Herb Albert.

In regards to blacks playing country music...the banjo is an African instrument. Also, apparently, the rodeo was started by a black man. Not saying that white men have not contributed to these things but we do live in an historical narrative that suppresses valuable contributions of non white male. For instance, as dramatized by the movie, Hidden Figures.
