Two geniuses at work .... wow the ending ....if anyone didn't make it to the end: watch it. Ben makes a song out of these intro-like arpeggios done by Jon. Then builds it around Jon's verbal theory on composition. Ben that was amazing.
Jon is simply a delightful person. Loved this
American Symphony is the best film on Netflix period right now Spaceman is 2nd best
OMG - loved the whole thing... especially the last JAM. Brilliant guys!
If anyone didn't make it until the end .... they missed the best part.
Jon Batiste is my first BF podcast.....sets a phenomenally high bar. Love the sound and sensibility of your music Mr. Folds. This is a breath of fresh air during the Covid clusterfuck.
what a breath of fresh air each and every morning, noon and night. I love Jon. He sees all the light in the world. Thank you for sharing your joy with all of us. Ben, great interview with a genius.
I LOVE "make the formula fresh each time"!
Just found this. It’s brilliant!
Lovely glad I stumbled on this
YESSSSS! That piece of joy-music at the end of the video. I loved it. Thank you so much ✨
Wow! That end composition was genius!
Uhhh. Just watched this brilliant inside look at creative genius. Why does this not have 10 billion views? Thank you Ben for doing this. I imagine this will help guide musicians in there now and their future.
Excellent mashup soup, Ben and Jon! LOVE IT!
This was amazing! SO loved it!
Delightful. Thanks very much. I love how all of this talk about craft is still so accessible. It's inspiring.
This is one of my favorite videos on the internet. I love the vibes from Ben and Jon together. They could be talking about anything and I would want to listen.
Another great podcast!!! Today’s song really sounds like a mix between Reinhold Messner and Way To Normal. I loved it!
Not Jon quoting The Licc at 43:43 😂😂 What an absolute legend, and a fantastic conversation. Jon is vibrating at an entirely different frequency, and it's pure magic
Man, what a GREAT conversation.
wow, Ben, you're making magic, bottling that lightning!!!
What a great conversation!! Both live through their music. Inspirational! Thank you so much!!
Two quotes that hit me hard:
Creating the mundane
We collaborate with our circumstances
Damn man, powerful stuff.
I absolutely love Jon Batiste, but wow love what you’ve created out of that interview.
Yes! Take a hiatus, many of them Jon! You are so smart, but you never know what will evolve if you give yourself space and time. Your spiritual and physical self is so vibrant and yet it can get fatigued unless really resting at times in life
Wow.This just kept on being so good. Jon, joyful, full-on present to the moment. Any way Ben moved the conversation, Jon was so with him: conversational jam session leading into the musical collaboration. Fun fun fun.
That last bit qualifies as a gumbo. A step up from the “soup” as Ben labeled it. Gumbo, much better than soup.
Love intelligent knowable music talk!
I could listen to these two incredible artists talk and jam for hours. (also, Russian gym ftw!)
I'm really digging these. Keep up the great work!
Jon and Ben are a gift.
What a feast for the senses! Brilliant!
That was awesome!!!!!
Absolutely love this Podcast!! Brilliantly done!!
Gold nuggets of wisdom from Jon! I am receiving! 🙏💋
Inspiring talk. Jon is such a bright light
OMG! I loved this SOOO much! You are ABSOLUTELY brilliant Mr. Folds!!! This was amazing!
Thank you for this. You're both worthy of the term genius!
Thank you for answering my question, Ben! Another awesome podcast. . . and your soup was amazing!!
man alive….that was monumental..love Jon so much. thank you Ben. love these conversations
What a beautiful world to be in, if only for a moment. Just the inspiration I needed to tease more out of myself. Thanks Jon, Ben.
Really like these videos. Especially the topics on creativity and perfectionism. I especially need to hear this right now in my life.
so cool i learn so much its great
This is awesome
wow....thanks Jon and Ben
Ben, I loved that musical piece at the end, like a great reveal.. the puzzle snaps in place reminding of the interview bits of fun.
Jon, people would kill for your Colbert gig, but i agree with Ben, somehow it kinda of felt like you're overqualified, gave me a vibe of a maestro flipping burgers. I think the tv format might just be too short if you're not in the audience.
Now i know what was missing for me: i needed to take the time to listen to you. I guess 2021-2022 did you good, I'm so happy you artistically broke to mainstream, We Are is amazing. Thank you ❣️
Gorgeous, your conversation was so filled with inspiration and the collaboration so fine!
Loved everything in this video! And the song at the end... Just too much! Thanks!
Excellent conversation! and wow great composition resulting in the end. Loved everything about this session!!
Love the mash-up at the end. Super-fun! But also loving that n'awluns drawul... Jon's a real character!
Great interview and the calibration oh my God💯💥🔥🎶
Love it!!!!!!!!
Perfect
Fantastic ❤
Good vibes!!!
BEN! AGAIN! I said it on Instagram and I'll say it on here: BEN. God damn. I love you.
32:03 -- what is that awesome FONT? lol
Jon!
Ben, I found you!!! Ive got your black tee. 😀😉😍
OMW " 15:00 to 16:40" is gold dust.
"If I wasn't doing as much it might be *more* exhausting." Economies of scale apply in the arts, my friend. Yes, they do.
This was such a cool podcast! As a long-time fan of Ben, a huge jazz nerd, and an 8bit Gameboy musician, I really loved this conversation!! If anyone is interested in Gameboy music, feel free to visit my website defensemech.com or check out my UA-cam channel!
evey body need somebodey
the day you gonna say to your self that your a king you gonna loose.
"Almost a composition class just by osmosis." Comprehensible input, linguists call that. People think you learn by doing, but you learn what to do by getting comprehensible input.
Knowing I WILL spend eternity with Jon but Im pretty sure I will not be spending eternity with Ben makes me really sad because Jesus created both and loves both
They are BOTH Jazz though one is positive energy and the other is negative sarcastic usually (not w The Luckiest but certainly w Brick a pro abortion song I hope Jon would be adamantly opposed to murder but then again the reason he is famous is Colbert a Catholic who clearly is OK with murder of the innocent so who knows?) I love both these artists I love Bill Maher and I disagree with him on very important issues
I love that these guys are friends this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! 2 of my top 20 fav artists of all time up there w Phish Zeppelin Marley The Beatles Queen Fiona Apple DMB Pink Floyd Billy Joel Whitney Houston Tool Metallica 2Pac NAS Jay-Z Chopin Stevie Wonder The Who Genesis MJ Marvin Gaye RHCP The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds is the best album ever made but I dislike almost all their other beach stuff) Ben Folds Five Jimmy Hendrix Chuck Berry Radiohead U2 Keane Coldplay (NOT The Rolling Stones sorry only Exile on Main Street is epic) I love BUSY people They are type A the opposite of The Sloth Lazy me and I am attracted to my opposite like my wife Mandy who is called Speedy or Mouse (she is short skinny and fast) at work as a nurse
MLK singing A Mighty Fortress is our God had weight to it because it was written while constipated on the toilet ...plus he only believed in God as POWER WRATH and WILL when what Jesus really was was Humble ...he was Love and he gave us Free Will as a gift so almost the opposite in many ways Fatalism is a lie but the 66 compiled bookS plural is NOT.....the bible is the word of God because Jesus is that word not just the red letters but all the other books not just the Paulian letters
Jon can actually GROOVE
Mike Gordon (in my favorite band of all time) and Flea in RHCP one of my top 100 bands of all time and I hate to admit it but even Bela Fleck and the Flecktones TONES....the BASS in those songs is because of Dave Matthews favorite Bassist of all time Victor Wooten and he may be 2nd or 3rd but Jaco is the greatest I hate to admit that Dave is wrong because Dave has the best living drummer in Carter Beauford (no not Jon Fishman but he is UP THERE) and Stefan Lessard leaves all kinds of music to be desired for me personally even in the Crush anthem he "sorta" Crushes
Im left handed too the 9% black sheep but most intelligent people on earth GO BEN
I notice that the best musicians have big hands and long skinny fingers like Jon Batiste and Trey Anastasio ...it makes it easier for them slightly in the DNA itself
My cat is better piano player then this dude 😹😹😹
