well it's 2021 and this is so fun as I always wondered about the beginning of Jon working with Stephen. I can see Jon is unsure of how Stephen will spin stuff...like face piano & swamp ass, LOL !!! so saying I love you means I trust you & that just isn't possible before one gets to really know the other...I wonder if his wife, Evie knows exactly how Stephen's mind works. But comparing Jon then to today, well he has soared to obtain all sorts of awards & public admiration. Fun stuff these two, but Jon's music is spectacular.
When Jon said he loves Stephen and music, I almost cried
We love Stephen Colbert and try to watch his show every night. We also love Jon Batiste and have purchased his music. We also love New Orleans and visit for 11 days every year, and spend a LOT of time on Frenchmen St. What is so terrific to us is that this video combines all 3: Stephen, Jon AND Frenchmen St.! (Although we've commented here before, we still come back to watch it over and over again.) We already have our next trip planned and have another couple who will be joining us for their first visit to New Orleans! So, we are sending them a link to this video!

+Dennis Chiu not really, just need a moment to figure out the pitch (if you don't know it by default) improvising to it is one of the simplest things one can think of.
+Squall Leonhart however takes talent to figure out what pitch it is immediately by ear ;)
Sreekanth Narayanaswamy For an average musician it should take ~1-2 seconds. For people with perfect pitch ~.5s. Difference between an average and the best in the world will be unnoticable by 90%+ of average listeners especially in this context with only one note to improvise to.

Squall Leonhart always an insecure no it all who wants to tear somebody with talent down and make themselves look good. No, it takes talent to do what jon did, not to mention Im sure you couldnt inprovise half a good as jon did.
Their little conversation leaning on a post is great. That is how I learned about New Orleans, however with me I didn't lean I mostly walked next to Louisiana citizens they taught me so much about a great State. I found in my work travels talking with the local people is a wonderful way to hear life stories. It seems as though Jon tells life stories with his wonderful music.
Jon is just amazing. I remember when he first got this gig, in NYC..and they staged a flash mob in our nabe on Union Square. Marching around, music thumping..and oh...so cool. Loved him that moment. We are living in New Orleans now...

You know what Jon has that Paul didn't? Charm. Paul could play like no body's business but Jon has this natural "cool" about him. He's less of a man who will laugh at anything Steven says and feels more like an artist having a good time. He's a perfect fit for Steven

A lot of New Orleans has been blanded with lofts and generic southern architecture since Katrina. The Quarter and Canal st. still have some of the soul.
***** Then maybe they were always bland (i.e. a lot of the Garden District), but I doubt it.
***** Well a lot of architecture I saw walking between there and Canal had a cookie-cutter, pre-fab look to it. All I can say.

I visit Slidell fairly often as I've 'family of my heart' I met when I lived there. Of course I gotta go to New Orleans too. Once you get a taste of the music there it gets in your blood.

The Comedic Gold that Colbert produces is Astounding....The show chemistry these guys have makes watching their clips better than coffee....and that says a lot. I have an IV running coffee into my right arm.
